I think at this point Aegis has become rather irrelevant, since it is easily out-classed by rep sets and (as far as shields are concerned) fleet gear. Well, it might not be exactly what the OP had in mind, but there is a third option. KDF charaters can now wear the "21st Century Formalwear" available from the C-Store, so if you want to go into battle wearing a cocktail dress, you can have that option for the price of 500 zen.
