Look what I started. B) When I originally posted that article over at StarbaseUGC, it came from a nostalgic look back at how Foundry began, and how much interest there was in it. I think we'd all love to see Foundry get there again. Right now, Foundry is more difficult to use, but it is certainly not impossible. My biggest…
I have done it, with mixed success, by placing the patrol NPC on a timer. When the timer is up, the patrolling NPC despawns and a static NPC spawns. It's a pain to set up, but surprisingly works about 75% of the time. Even if it fails, it just fails to be perfect. It can't harm the mission at all. The challenge is always…
Chronotons and Klingons is one of mine that's almost as old as Foundry itself. It is pretty well received and I've maintained it over the years. You are thrown back in time to the Khitomer Massacre and things go awry, forcing you to keep events moving in their historical direction to keep the timeline intact. It's a Fed…
I use males for both genders, and exaggerate the size of the head, eyes, and mouth. Since there are longer hairstyles for males, it isn't difficult to pull off. Also, I try not to make them too lean. If the limbs are thicker, it tends to look better. The trick is the combination of humanoid settings you choose. A few…
Yes. I have done it in several missions, a few different ways. The thing to keep in mind is the distance between mobs. Keep the kill radii of mobs from overlapping, and remember that they are 10m spheres. It is also important not to keep them so far from the main action that they don't spawn. The same rules apply when…
This will be a 6 part story on a much larger scale, and I don't know much about the novels, really. I've only read a couple many years ago. I've just done a ton of research and I'm crafting our own story. I usually try to touchstone on a thread from the shows, but I haven't really made a point of it this time. I also don't…
Thanks. I'm already thinking about tweaking the title. Still in the writing stage. Yours sounds good, too. Saw the tweet. Maybe we'll get some increased Foundry interest going. :D
Went through and fixed a couple of small glitches and spelling errors. Mission is now 100%, and it is out of the review stage. Mission is now available to all. Thanks for playing.
Every time there's a major update, all Foundry missions republish. All missions probably are tagged as new as that process continues. The highest rated missions fill up the search tabs, and the list changes as missions are republished until every mission is back up.
A few authors have noticed that some object/NPC state changes and NPC animations have reset, and need fixing and republishing. Some of the troubled missions are spotlights. It is not a matter of urgency, but it would be nice if the spotlights were unlocked for a time, once the editor comes back online. Thanks
Most of the tutorials I know of, including Kirkfat's and the Back to Basics that he and I did on PrimetimeUGC, were general in nature. They were meant to introduce Foundry to new authors. There may be a few floating around having to do with animations, outlining and storyboarding, etc. Most are out of date. I would suggest…
Unfortunately, it is explicitly against the EULA to share an account. The only way I could see to genuinely collaborate is to have one person actually build while collaborators join in on a livestream of the account holder's editor, as he/she does the physical work. The two StarbaseUGC series have been collaborations in…
I had one that simply said "I prefer Romulans". The mission had nothing to do with Romulans, and said as much in the description. I'm sure if I scoured the reviews I could find stranger.
What johnny said. Always click the "Advanced Dialog Editor" button before doing anything in the text window. You have to do it anyway if you are writing a conversation. It's the only place you can add more dialog boxes(besides putting pop ups in the Story tab). After text is entered and needs to be edited, using the dialog…
What we could really use is a targetable invisible object which could be placed over things like doors on ground maps or a space station on space maps. We could use it to trigger explosions, etc. This would be incredibly useful as we only have the ability to target mobs. We have tried to fake this with limited and…
Since our StarbaseUGC site has been down awhile, I'd suggest going to YouTube and enter "STO Foundry Tutorials" in the search. Kirkfat and I made a series of Back to Basics tutorials that might help. I know I learned how to use Foundry watching his original ones. We made the new ones because of changes to the editor. You…
I figured I'd post all the trailers that I made in one place. If you like what you see, go into STO and play six missions. We hope you all enjoy it. We're pretty proud of it. Thanks all. B) Trailer1 Trailer 2 Trailer 3 Trailer 4 Trailer 5 Trailer 6 Photonomy Feature If you have watched all 7 videos, you are a Foundry Hero,…
I always use 'Captain" in my Foundry missions. It is canon for the series upon which this game is based. That is my rationale, at any rate. As a long time author, I have accepted that pleasing everyone is not an option. You cannot tell a very interesting tale without occasionally stepping on toes. Everyone has their own…
[EXP] does seem the most obvious, and was my first thought. [EXM] for EXploration Mission may work if the former is an issue. There's always just [EX] for those not opposed to a 2 letter version. Then there's always [AEI] to go along with starfarertheta's title artwork. Anyhow, I have a few ideas for exploration/first…
