The lifetime sub was probably the best "bang for the buck" purchase I made. Normally, it's $300, but a couple times a year it's $200. Cryptic has a good track record of expanding STO's content so I find myself returning to the game on a regular basis.
Very interesting read, but now I'm bummed I burned fleet marks across all my toons on the spire tac [damage-type] consoles. Ah well, I'm not a hardcore player anyway... In any case, I was curious what embassy console(s) folks would recommend for a sci captain running the Breen carrier, Rom rep plasma beams, the Rom…
I got a LTS last fall when it was on sale ($200 vs. $300) and it's certainly been worth it. I think the LTS goes on sale twice a year, so my advice is to wait. If past practice is any guide, it should be around late May / early June timeframe.
Thank you for the clarifications guys. I was trying to grind KDF DOFFs on a Fed-owned Cell ship. Once I went to the Klingon academy, the DOFFs suddenly appeared. Looks like I had a mix of "Fed" and "KDF"-aligned Romulans. I think the The "KDF" Romulans couldn't be seen by grinder on the Cell ship.
Thanks for the input! Very solid suggestions. A few questions: 1) Why the importance of keeping aux power high? For the Gravity Well? 2) Does this ship need 3 hull heals? 3) If aux should stay high, perhaps the best thing would be to replace ET1 with Emergency Power to Aux? I'd hit that before I hit GW or Aux2SIF. Thanks…
I like, at a minimum, a dual beam bank and torpedo for weapons. BOFF skills would include tactical team, beam overload, and torpedo high yield. Hit beam overload to significant drop shields and follow up with torpedo high yield. (I switch them if the target is far away since the beam will hit as the torp is traveing). This…
Of the three races, only Nausicaan offers a space trait: Pirate (+1.5% all damage, +150 stealth). If you do mostly space missions, you'll definitely want to pick up one of the Nausicaan BOFFs.
Dumb question: where are you getting these values? Whenever I look at my ship screen in sector space, I only see the base values, which don't change as I add equipment. Do I need to be in a mission instance instead?
Thank you for sharing this build. I have an Atrox that I've mothballed for the time-being because it didn't seem all that fun or effective. I was really annoyed with the turn rate of the thing and how quickly its fighters died. It seems you're fine with the turn rate as I see few enhancements in that area, which is a bit…
I'm not sure what you mean by "quantitative data" but perhaps this blog post was quite illuminating: http://tobolds.blogspot.com/2011/07/forum-lies.html And sorry, no. I did not present a logical argument that universally applies, including to critics of recreational/medical pot. Though I do find it interesting that many…
I'm not sure who's arguing from the standpoint of the investor, but I assume that a company likely has the most, if not the best, insight how to make a profit. This makes me think twice about criticizing development or design decisions. It feels like armchair quarterbacking. Besides, it's well-known that the opinions and…
If the OP objects to Cryptic's development decisions on the grounds that they enable it to create profit, then it's a lame and ignorant response. What else should a company strive for? To break even or even lose money? Really...
So I've gathered it's not the grind in STO that annoys you per se; it's that the grind in STO doesn't reward you with the things you think it should (well, most of the things, since you're fine with grinding for "shinies", whether they be ships or swords.) This was once a concern of mine as well. But it is no longer…
I haven't heard one complaint about the length of time players have to complete the ship requirements. You only need to log in 15 days out of the 28 the event runs.
Like I said, you can object to grinds of any kind, but then you're objecting to pretty much an inherent component of the vast majority of MMOs. If you don't like grinding, then you probably shouldn't be playing an MMO. Besides that, the "grind" in STO is weaksauce compared to most MMOs and isn't even necessary to enjoy the…
You'll get no gripe from me about the lack of story-based content, but if you've played any other MMO, then you'll know this is pretty much the standard complaint across all of them. At least STO has the Foundry, as limited as it is. If a lack of story-based content is your real concern, then I wonder what you're doing in…
The analogy actually fails because most of STO's grinds are not at all necessary to enjoy its content. If you're a frog in a pot, it's only because you lept into one.
Pushing a button on your screen each day qualifies as a grind too then. Would you feel the same way if you had to do that? Fortunately, this "grind" isn't necessary to unlock content as typical grinds require.
Then don't do it for 9 or more toons? Do it for 2 or 3? Voila! No more grind! It hardly seems plausible you "need" 3 of the same versions of the 3 ships. You don't even need one of them.
Yes, granted. I never denied it was a grind, just that the term hardly seems apt to describe a daily mission that will likely take less than a minute. And remember, you don't "need" to do something to obtain what's essentially a pretty skin.
If the daily mission to obtain "Qmendations" for the anniversary ships is anything like the Winter Event's mission, it boggles the mind that anyone considers it a real grind. The Winter Event mission took all of how much time? A minute? If that... And it's not like these ships are necessary to unlock additional content, as…
Would anyone care to give some build and play tips for this ship? It's currently the least favorite in my stable. The turn rate is really annoying and the pets die faster than fruit flies. I use it with my science captain. Currently using the Jem'Hadar deflector / engine, a MACO MK XI shield, and polaron beam arrays.
This mission remains broken. Can't "Reroute power to junction 32" as required. The bar fills, but the game doesn't register a completion. Please either fix it, or remove the mission and it's corresponding event.
When I last played STO, I used v3.02 of DOFFTREKKER. 3.11 is out now and I was curious how to upgrade my current sheet to the latest. Or do I just have to copy my characters' data over by hand?
