Yes cages are a CS item. You can get a quest from the pet skills trainer to gather materials for more pet slots. They require:

Cash shop (Boutique). Look under UTILITIES, STORAGE. They are something like 2 gold each or 14 gold for a super cage.

I have found that the Shaduao Cub is pretty good. It has good pdef and mdef.... Not quite as good as the golem or walker, but better than the eldergoth marksman. It is lvl 20 rare pet though.

I sure wish a GM would reply. I don't have a herc or I would try. I can't expect anyone else to try for the obviuos reason on losing loyalty. I do know if it says that you cannot transfer through account stash either.

Very true about self healing. I can get away with simple pots to maintain hp. My problem is that I am saving for a herc and have not upgraded armor or sought out channeling gear. Once I get my herc.... It's on then. I will definitely be upgrading.

Everything that I have read says that once you trade your ticket into a herc that you cannot move, sell, or trade. Lvling with the pet has some advantages. I agree. I am curious about the increase ability to earn coin at a low lvl versus at a high level.
