I'm... not sure what level of glacial you'd need to do wyvern. It's risky even with a herc early on - when the debuff lands you really need a decent amount of channel gear to keep up with the damage.
Very true about self healing. I can get away with simple pots to maintain hp. My problem is that I am saving for a herc and have not upgraded armor or sought out channeling gear. Once I get my herc.... It's on then.
I will definitely be upgrading.0 -

Sometimes I fail a lure. Is that hard to believe?
But when I don't fail, I don't get hit.
Trying to fail as rarely as possible is a good thing.
Sure, I CAN lure with earthflame and with tame. I don't LIKE doing it, because of the short range. (You're inside the attack range pretty much instantly)
I do use it sometimes. Snagging the mobs guarding myriadtail, for some reason, I almost always use earthflame.
And except for increased movespeed mobs, that's just not true.
Your pet can be sent in from a long way off, and you can move back slightly further as it runs up.
You can then resummon your pet and catch it, even the archers in 79, before it attacks. (Send the pet to attack and run backwards so that the pet takes aggro before it comes into range of you.)
Then, if you're unlucky, the archer will start to run away and you have to play ping-pong to get it running the right way. That's very variable though.
Pounce makes both of these parts of the job much much easier. If I were soloing 79 again that's the thing I'd miss most. (Humm... I could use the shadau for the initial pull....)
With a squad - the tank is catching anyway. Then it's not an issue at all.
Again - I'm not saying this is the only way to do it. I'm saying it's the way I prefer.
I am saying, and will keep saying, that if a veno can't do it, then they need to learn it.
Likewise if they didn't know how to lure with earthflame or tame, then, well, they need to learn that too.
Now - are there going to be monsters in later dungeons which are too long-range / too fast for pet luring to work? I'm quite happy to believe it.
Zimo was a damn good example of a monster that was far too fast moving to lure-and-catch.
In those situations - yes, I have to act differently (in the case of zimo, I generally killed the guards and then just rushed her rather than trying to make her move)0 -
Ranged eldergoths shine against the runners in '79. Not only will they hit while luring before the mobs usually react, but after the lure the mobs won't run as far (turn off bash after the initial hit or before sending, turn it on after mob stops running.) For other pets, the best strategy is stow-summon-send pet as you run away. Quite often, the mob will end up well positioned (toward you from your pet, so if it runs, it will be away from the other mobs.) In the event it runs toward other mobs, put your pet on follow and re-attack after it runs back toward you to attack your pet. (You DO keep your pet on manual, don't you?)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Agree on using eldergolth. I finally levelled mine up.JanusZeal - Heavens Tear wrote: »There isn't much maneuvering room in 79, and pulling from miles back only helps an unwined instance (whether it be for a BH or for a 20x3) that's already very large take forever. There's a very high chance of you getting hit anyways, and with no pet to defend you, likely taking more hits than you would using tame or EF. And again, if the mob is attacking you while facing you, then it is already a failed pull because as soon as you send your pet over to 'em they're gonna kite in the wrong direction. This is something you failed to address, and what is likely going to wreak havoc for you in 79 (and even 89) with this sort of mentality surrounding pulling.
What can I say except - it worked.
The mob very often will run past the pet whilst the pet is winding up to hit it, and then the mob will run the right way.
It doesn't always work, but often enough it's fine.
And the mob running the wrong way doesn't cause havoc - it just slows the pull down. Don't let your pet chase the mob, tell it to follow you, run further back, repeat.
It worked fine for me in there, and I first went in around level 70 (when the OHT quest-chain sent me, I admit I didn't stay until the boss solo)
And yeah - I usually completely clean instances. If you're leaving things alive then running around is a bad idea. You can do it if you're careful, but not a great plan.0 -
the solution is simple use tame pet to lure the mobs one by one or u can use earthflame the genie skill to lure one by one then from their take your time and just b patient when u get to the boss just let your herc do all the work and u just spam heal it0
