I've been testing PWI on some older laptops with similar 3DMark performance graphics cards. Both had 2GB DDR2 RAM. The launcher has a very limited list of available resolutions (up to 1280x1024) but once you run the game you can go to system settings, system tab and from there select the resolution you want. I usually play at 1400x1050 SXGA+ resolution and it works great. I also never experienced any annoying map issues.

Please check you meet the minimum system requirements. Especially OS : PWI requires at least Windows XP or higher Windows OS to run. Also a short info from dxdiag would probably help in finding out what is the problem.

I suggest to open google.com and do a search for 'directx download'. From what you described it looks like your DirectX is outdated and needs an upgrade.

East coast servers are actually much better for Europeans than west coast. Trivia event is at 12AM (CET)/ 10PM (GMT) not 3AM. TWs at 2AM CET (12AM GMT). Also If you lag too much you can always switch to minimum details/distance. It does help.
