I'm not sure it matters much that the Federation knew of alternative ways to travel through space; any interstellar alliance is going to feel the strain if it suddenly loses its interstellar infrastucture. Even if they did have the tech to make ships that did not require dilithium, it would still be hard to rebuild if they…
The kid would not have been completely human; maybe Betazoids have more silicon in their biochemistry. Being carbon based does not mean there can't be silicon involved at all. That aside, I am enjoying Picard. The darker tone doesn't bother me. Utopias don't just happen, they have to be worked at; and sometimes the ball…
I have to be honest; I'm not liking this round. Both these designs could easily belong to any number of other Trek races. They lack identity or individuality. That said, I'm voting Echo, because I think it's the prettier of the two.
With that big hanger door, my first thought was flight deck cruiser; but since the Orions don't have a T6 one of those, there isn't anything I can hold up and say 'kinda like this'... so I'm honestly at a loss when it comes to a build. Although it does make me imagine a cross faction three pack of T6 FD cruisers, so I…
Just think, if it turns out that this series is set pre-TOS then many of the arguments made against the Kelvin being a Prime ship could be blown out of the water by the Discovery. It has a blue glowy deflector. It's nacelles don't resemble anything from ENT or TOS. It looks pretty big for a ship of the era to me. I find…
Well... that is an ugly ship. I don't think it looks ugly in a bad way though (like the Galaxy does); I mean, it's ugly, but it's not stupid. It kinda works in it's own odd and unpretentious sort of way. I do think the pylons should turn up at the ends though; I really feel that a ship with a neck should have elevated…
I have been known to play KDF from time to time; but the only way to get me to take it seriously would be to actually make it different from playing a Fed. The KDF has always been willing to do things that Feds wouldn't; and in STO they have the Orions and Nausicaans working with them, which really should make the whole…
53 I think. Might have turned 54 this morning... I forget. The character will just be starting Coliseum the next time I log in; so I'm a little surprised to be so near 60 already.
I did change my uniform, but I tried to think like a TOS officer while putting it together. I think I managed to do an OK job of blending retro and modern together. My bridge officers still mostly wear TOS stuff though.
Not sure yet. I can only say two things for certain right now: 1: Day 1 server troubles aside, I enjoyed the 23rd century. 2: I LOVE the Pioneer! I absolutely adore it; and am tempted to do one of those tier one challenges just so I can keep flying it (but I won't, because masochism really isn't my thing). Really hope we…
Can't think why they would. There are plenty of sets that boost specific weapon types. Last I checked, phaser and photon weren't well represented in that particular regard; so I can only see this as a good thing.
I had a similar problem for a few days; I would get stuck at the Cryptic logo forever. I could get in in safe mode, but couldn't adjust my screen resolution to normal when I was in. Tried updating my graphics driver and C++, but it didn't seem to help. It is all working fine now though. What seemed to work for me was using…
Does anyone here really believe that the Romulan War was fought with primitive atomic weapons, and crude ships that made quater or taking captives impossible? Ent would suggest that that is a load of guff. Canon changes. Retcons happen. Doesn't mean a whole new universe; it just means that modern Trek was made by modern…
It makes no sense to argue that the USS Kelvin couldn't be from Prime because it doesn't fit with TOS. It isn't from the TOS period to begin with; it predates it. We don't know much about Starfleet at that point in Star Trek's history. We had no reason to think ships like the Kelvin could have existed then; but, as of…
Why do people feel the need to try and impose their personal headcanon on the world around them? Even if one of you managed to bludgeon everyone else in the thread into submission with cunning arguments, it still won't make the reality of the current franchise any more to your liking. Times change; fans should too. :/
I am a bit disappointed, yeah. When Cryptic posted one of those story blogs, which mentioned the Enterprises often being involved in temporal troubles, I had hoped we might visit the era of each one; and get new era appropriate ships from them (so a new TMP era ship, an new Excelsior era ship, Ambassador, etc). Even if…
That's what I say about the PvE queues; at least there was a lot of different maps in the clusters, even if there was only a handfull of actual mission types between them. I know the clusters weren't the game's most popular feature, but I'm an optimist see? I spent years hoping Cryptic would someday improve the clusters…
Never really forgiven Cryptic for removing the exploration clusters; I've only been an occasional player since then. I doubt I'll ever seriously get back in to STO unless we get some sort of exploration system put back in (I wouldn't insist on procedural generation though; but it would be nice).
You would think that something called the 'Kelvin Lockbox' would actually have the Kelvin in it wouldn't you? Sure, I kinda knew it wasn't going to be, but I couldn't help but hang on to a tiny sliver of hope anyway. Ah well. Kudos to the artists though; the ships do look pretty spectacular.
