Um, the release notes just came out. That means it's the first official word.
I've heard that Tribble only had four species, but I fully expected that to change as Tribble is an unfinished product. Just as the limited number of missions did.
Isn't the species restriction logical? The four offered are the Founders of the Federation, and TOS actually gives the impression that crews are generally very homogenous in terms of species. I can see disregarding the latter for the sake gameplay ("Oh, goody, another human BOff..."), and it probably would've been nice to at least have Alien as an option, but this seems pretty in keeping with the setting.
Here is something that will add some hope to a new TOS race for Lifers. Legacy of Romulus introduced the Liberated Borg Romulan race with its release and Delta Rising introduced the Talaxian race 2 weeks after its release.
Just because it historically happened in the past doesn't mean it will happen every time.
Like this time.
It's TOS, there weren't a lot of species depicted then on starships
Which is why I said it would add some hope not that it will happen. Cryptic should have restricted us to only the races that are available to Starfleet in 2270 not strictly to what Federation races we have seen in TOS.
Another issue is that each faction is provided with a cybernetic race for the Lifers. Since the Liberated Borg weren't around in the 23rd Century Alpha Quadrant, then there is the species that 0718 is. If an alien race is cybernetically modifying humans in the Kelvin Universe, then that same race would have likely being doing it in the Prime Universe during the 23rd Century. Either the Kelvin Universe is a parallel universe that has some differences from the Prime Universe or it is a new timeline that was created by the destruction of the USS Kelvin even though it violates established Star Trek canon.
Why would you think that Holodeck would get something different than Tribble got?
Because historically it has, and in other ways, it did this time too.
When the Romulans were launched, alien was added as a species option last minute.
Even that was official at the latest last week, when Geko said in an interview that aliengen was not being added because the guys that would make that happen said it would take at least 15 days. Of course, it was also said in multiple interviews before that that we would only be getting four races ... so this really is pretty old.
I like to think if there are enough of these threads, disapointment, player feedback, etc, that they will make a change accordingly. Thats the world id like to live in. I have faith they will get this correct.
Are they doing this for their emmersion? Certainly not a lot of players'. Ill ask again, do they make this game for themselves?
And this "it takes 15 days so we are not going to do it" jazz makes no sense. Like there is a threshold of time that makes projects impossible or not worth it? All other projects takes less than two weeks to accomplish? The later you start the later you finish. If they start now then at least the addtl race will exist before the Temporal Recruitment ends.
Wonder how many people are actually gonna roll Tellarite characters?

15 Days that they do not have, perhaps, since the release date is set?
15 Days they could have the involved developers and artists spend on something else that has better pay off (either literally or figuratively)?

This has been known since Tribble had the content up.
Delta Rising is already sounding nice.

Iconians, you know, we all love you man.
We come in peace, SHOOT TO KILL!
Probably the best skit series on Mad TV.

USS Casinghead NCC 92047 launched 2350
Fleet Admiral Stowe - Dominion War Vet.
Probably not enough for them to even register on Cryptic's precious metrics.

Not sure if you planned for it but the fact that pic has a PC from 90's is perfect xD
