This year marks the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, and we’ll be celebrating the occasion in a number of ways!

One of those ways involves the arrival of new content inspired by the recently rebooted Star Trek film franchise. There will be new “Kelvin Timeline” starships, consoles, traits, officers, training manuals, gear, and uniforms!

    Was there ever any doubt? The new movie will give them plenty of free publicity. Of course they will continue to release ships from the Kelvin timeline as they appear on screen. Cryptic has payed for the license and now has to make a profit on it.

    [minor movie Spoiler ahead]
    Since the JJprise is getting destroyed we might even see the JJprise-A or JJxelsior at the end of the movie. Certainly the swarm ships and the USS Franklin will make it into the game at some point.

    I'm guessing one of the starships is going to be a Kelvin timeline shuttle, it really does not seem Cryptic's style to give away a free, brand new T5-U or T6 starship without some grinding involved.

    Or maybe they're talking about Admiralty cards.

    Alternatively, I could see a T0 USS Kelvin for new players, but nothing end-game.​​

    So maybe not. Al Rivera was in an interview where it was implied that he knows nothing more about the new movie than we do and that the assets are all from the previous two films.

    Part of me wonders if the blog was referencing the lockbox. I know that it says "there will be" but that could almost come across as a marketing ploy.

    One can hope though... for a kelvin class escort

    True. But at least the looks of the swarm ships and Franklin are public knowledge since they released the ship chart. I would say both ships are likely to be in the game by this fall.

    I love the Kelvin timeline authentic feel and thought process behind the starships. I would spend some serious cash on something like a Kelvin rendition of an excelsior or sovereign class star ship.

    Probably a big ask, but omg they would be amazing looking starships <3

    it was in a trailer, not so much of a spoiler sadly.

    but it keep pointing to "let's try and take all of the iconic moments from the original movies and make them cheap", third JJ verse (though not directed) Star Trek movie, and in the first third trek movie, the Enterprise was destroyed as well.

    That's true, but from everything else in the trailer, there's literally nothing else connecting ST III to Beyond. At worst, maybe they'll ditch the JJprize and we get another movie with Enterprise A... that sexy, sexy beast of a ship.

    The new movie doesnt seem to be focused on ships though, from how the trailer looked. Enterprise would be a canonfodder and we might have far too little time with the Franklin to explore more of it.
    I hope it wont be like this, the nice ship spectacular pic would be a bit of waste...

    Um, as much as I enjoy Kelvin stuff, I'd stay the current lockbox and its contents certainly still count as "new".

    You might not want to read to much into what's quite easily just some patting themselves on the back for their most recent and wildly successful release. Especially since that list is pretty much exactly what's IN that current lockbox.

    And why shouldn't they scavenge highlights from the closed-for-business-verse? That would be kind of THE POINT to doing a reboot instead of carrying on after the temporal cluster TRIBBLE Voyager ended with.

    heh... I'm glad someone feels this way also. It always seemed to me that by the time we got done with Voyager and then Enterprise we were at a point where the exploration and unknown aspects didn't matter and it got to be more about Time Trek and with Voyager more of USS Make-TRIBBLE-Up. Say what you want about how quickly we knock out cubes in STO, but Voyager was already well on her way to single handedly taking out every major threat in the quadrant with what was supposed to be a gimped ship next to larger ships like the Galaxy class. \

    Only real shame about those movies is that Paramount and CBS didn't come together in that time frame to make a new TV show to embrace how Star Trek was once again an open frontier

    It sounded more to me like the blog was written before the JJ box was released, as everything referenced is contained either in that box, or in the lobi store.

    One thing that could be interesting is a connie variant with Kelvin (the ship, not the universe) style nacelles and hull material.

    I sincerely hope they will be releasing the Klingon "Warbird". My credit card has a layer of dust on it, but if that ship is put in the C-store, is T-6, and has a better boff layout than the K't'inga, I'll gladly blow off the dust and buy that ship.

    I would rather have Kelvin timeline ships than original cryptic designs. No offense, I really think the cryptic ships are cool 'n'all, BUT they aren't real star trek in my mind. Then again I don't know why I think like that... I guess star trek has always been a tv and movie thing for me, the game doesn't really effect trek lore on the screen, but the screen effects the game.

    I see no reason at all to believe that Star Trek Beyond won't generate any content for Star Trek Online, so this is no surprise to me. Once the Kelvin Lockbox became a thing, the door was opened and there was no reason to believe it would shut again.

    I know people are split on this, and I respect that. Me personally, I love original and new Trek, I'm absolutely thrilled to see more Kelvin content coming to Star Trek Online. I'm really looking forward to that Admiral Uniform, now I can dress properly on the bridge of my sweet new Federation Intel Dreadnought. :)
