Woah... what happened here? I don't get why there is the need to deride what people want to do to have fun in STO. Meh

And consider that in vpvp there are a lot of players doing both normal pvp and vpvp, grinding for their main toons for DR and at the same time having a clean 50 for vpvp, so i don't get really. It's just another way to have fun with these rules, this doesn't mean players here in vpvp are avoding the meta and such things like not adapting and blablabla... boh

    ...

this channel has no fleet hosting party. its pandas, 32 vipers, IC, hobos, PVE fleets, ect....alll coming together to have some fun.

    no harm in that man.

Don't forget the people who gave up on pvp a long time ago and are having fun in VPvP. Threre's quite a few in VPvP and I think it's great for the pvp community as a whole. It's one thing to get a fresh face but it's entirely another to get someone who gave up a few years ago and are now enjoying PvP again.

    I agree with you !

Let the people here their fun and not always trying to talk all bad.

    @ V PvP
This is a beautiful thing and I hope it stays that way.

    @ HoBo's
Talk not all bad, let the people the fun. We talk or write also not s bad about your tournament although the rules there are not so hot. You should just ask yourselves why there are so few teams have signed up .. maybe You come on it. ;)

This also raises the associated questions why Marauding Force (requires the T5 C-Store flight deck cruiser) and Orion Interceptors (requires the T3 C-Store flight deck cruiser) are allowed.

You're always going to have people against what you do.

I guess i'm one of them

Just saying, and i'll say again, MMO's have changing meta, where thing become horrible unbalanced, and other become obsolete. My point is that this channel is going directly against that. People here don't want to venture out and try new things when they come out. They want a constant meta, and a constant playing field in which to perform this all.

Yes i was around for the "old style" of pvp.

And in my opinion, the ever changing meta keeps things interesting.

Not of the likes of VPvP which has an overwhelming amount of fed to kdf ship ratio, and will never have an exciting swoop of the meta. It's all just "dictated" by a select group what you can and can't do. Hell i could even describe this whole thing as a dictatorship lol.

P.S. (Maybe you should think about balancing that, of course, as always the feds have clear advantage in ship choice)

I understand why some people want to participate in VPvP.

However, I am not one of them.

The game is always going to be changing. I prefer to change with it is all.
VPvP seems a bit out of touch with what an MMO is all about.

I simply prefer to both use an adapt, to new content.

I'm not going to argue the merits of what is considered OP & what isn't...

If its in the game, sure go ahead and use it if you wish.

Got it Dius, but the 90% of the VPvP players out there like me and others are those that continuously adapt to the "meta" and game changes. They just prefer to do both and have fun the same way, it's simple :D

Just from the @handles I see flying past in the chat channel I would say that it isn't full of fail players that can't adapt. More like players that have been at it for years and just going after a little bit of fun and games. Cause that's what it's about.

And it's optional. It's a big digital world and I think there is room for everyone. So far.

Of course that's sort of what they said when they started handing out IP4 addresses all those years back.:)

Well VPvP isn't my kind of play style as well. Mostly because I don't like to play under rules "no, yes, no, no, no, yes, absolutely no because of x, y and z.". I tried doing a single match, I got bored in the first 20 seconds. using low end equipment escort against a healboat and stuff like that... how is it different from regular PvP? At least in there you get to have those extras that can potentially give you a win. If you are closed-mind about actual PvP and you think that "bah, you can only with through clickies, no skills needed", you failed from the very beginning.

Referring to those who complain about current meta, VPvP's meta has been surpassed. The game evolved, you couldn't pretend it to stay with cookie cutter ships. Otherwise it would be as good as dead with development if there was nothing else to add to your ship, or further progress your character with new gear.

The F2P component is reflected in some aspects anyway. Items like Tachyokinetic Converter, Bioneural Circuits, reputation passives and sets. Hey if someone has just started playing in no way he can get to have the same number of ships or equipment I gathered in a year. Either you wait, or pay to speed things up. Good for him if there are different PvP environment manned by players to help him get used to it. Still, the same player will feel the need to advance, to upgrade the 9 console freebie ship to fleet, higher mark items, duty officers to integrate with the build.

I support Neepa's thought 102%. Sure, there are some things that aren't the expression of balance, but that's normal. TIF can be countered in so many ways. Scramble it, and the debuff is applied even to its teammates. Target auxiliary or Viral Matrix shuts it down. Shockwave does the same thing.

If others like it, enjoy it, not saying you shouldn't play it. But the above is my point of view. Players who can adapt are the most threatening players. Those who decide to fall back... yes you were competitive, but now not anymore. :)

Out of curiosity, to those who don't like VPVP:

What's your opinion on a GW2-style PVP experience where you get access to all available gear at no cost? Is that something you would like because it reduces the entry barrier for high-end builds and increases competition, or is it something you wouldn't want because it allows players to copy your builds without grinding/paying for it?

they can copy the build all they want; they can't copy the skill required to use it
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

I wouldn't, because someone can straight copy my ship, and because "paying to speed things up" is what keeps this game running through Zen microtransactions.

In BF4, you start PvP (or multiplayer) with very basic gear, higher level stuff is unlocked by killing players fully geared and more skilled than you. Where's the fun if everything's so easy to get?

Suppose for a moment I can have all the gear I want at no cost; I'd be first excited. Then I'd get bored day by day; I managed to run every build in game, let it be escort, healer, drainer etc. I wouldn't have fun anymore, because everything's too easy to obtain.
I didn't work for it. I didn't thought about it. I didn't care about pros and cons of it. What's the point then?

Personally, however much we hate the grind of this game, it separates people who want a quick thrill, from those who're willing to put the time, effort and thought into a build. However much the cost, it's something to work towards, that's why i ended up playing a game like this. The constant thought that i can work towards this/that keeps me interested.

    So in answer, No

    1) you guys are assuming that people who do VPvP don't do normal PvP. Most all the people I see in VPvP also hit up the queues, play tournaments, and run in premades. Some of them are even some of the best players in the game.

    2) When someone says they don't like your play style, you guys say you can play as you want. This is 100% correct. No one in VPvP is telling you to not run clickies or circle someone with FAW or spam warp poo and TBR. Always play as you want, but don't come here and complain that someone is playing different. I'm actually surprised that you guys are complaining at all since VPvP is obviously optional. The people who have joined VPvP just want to play the game differently than you.

    3) If you don't like VPvP it's totally fine. I just don't undersand your need to complain about it.

That would just be a factual statement. I run clickies, FAW, and TBR in game, but those are the things people complain to you about and I was saying there's nothing wrong with it just as there's nothing wrong with VPvP for the same reasons.

You are comparing the first 5v5 pug match of a new category (recorded with a terrible frame rate) to a tournament-level premade match? Shouldn't you compare it to an everyday queue match to have a somewhat fair comparison?

I suppose that is the gear progression MMO mindset.

But there is also the sports mindset: In FIFA you can choose Real Madrid or Bayern M

    greetings

David, the people offering specifics about the rules set were few and far between, but lets leave that in the thread it came from yeah?

For my part I just find VPvP curious. It genuinely interests me. Not to play in it, but that certain people take it as some benchmark of 'tru skill'. I've got no problems getting kills in a nine-console Vet ship with DHC's, so it's not like I 'need' X or Y clicky to compete. I just wonder why people would put themselves through MMO PvP when its very basis is the antithesis of what they seek in a PvP experience.

@mancom, no I'd rather we not go to a GW system. I tried GW and GW2 and found them relentlessly boring. I like that MMO's offer me more gameplay options than 'sit down, plug in, and pewpew for 3 hours straight'. I like that you don't just have everything handed to you, that you have to earn the good stuff through actually playing the game or subsidising the F2P experience. That's why I play MMO's and not Counter-Strike or Battlefield. Something like VPvP is all good, I find it weird but it's player-driven and you guys are having fun so okay.

I think this is partly rooted in the fact that at launch STO wasn't a typical MMO and attracted many players who only came because of Star Trek, but who weren't otherwise interested in MMOs. And then they stayed because there simply are no other games with core mechanics that are comparable to STO's capital ship space combat.

I don't really want an MMO with gear progression. I'd be totally happy if there was a game that uses STO's space mechanics (of the S1.2 variety) as a foundation and provides a mixture of FIFA and Unreal Tournament as game types.
