I'm still getting this 'Trying to update the server' message. I am aware it's not affecting everyone, a friend of mine can play the game without problems. But I can't even get to the gateway.startrekonline page, even though I could this morning and my friend can?!
That is interesting, though I have no way to try it from my network (no way to get it on a wireless connection).
Can you do a trace from the one that fails, then hop on the other, and do a trace from the one that succeeded please?
Already posted it but that was about 30 pages back, so i don't blame you for not finding it.

dear PWE Staff, this may be an ISP Issue, but I'd check for a faulty Network Card or 2 in your patchserver.crypticstudios.com (208.95.185.41).
Cause if it would be an ISP prob, i'd have 100% package loss, not every 20th ping with an answer....
Not true, if the 'network card' of the router in cogent was at fault you could see the same thing.
If the 'network card' of any load balancing equipment was at fault, same thing..
I am having the same issue. Just keeps saying "Trying to Update launcher, Please be patient" then then it times out and says "Unable to establish a connection to the patch server".
is kinda funny as I was in game before the last update.
The issue is ISP specific not regional, if you can teather your cellphone, switch to a backup connection, or hop on a neighbors wireless just to get in that may work, it did for me. Once the game patches and loads log out but don't exit the game, switch back to your regular internet and log back in. This issue is only with the launcher/patch servers, once the game loads your fine.
Confirmed - this works - got directly on using my mobile as a 3G hotspot and my home broadband disconnected. (Just be sure to avoid nasty large roaming charges by reverting to normal Internet once your in!)
Soo, anyone know about the people who magically appear on the exchange and sell **** for redic prices..
I.e, there is an item on the exchange, lets use XI rare Sci console field generator for example, and they are all selling for 1.5mill, all of them some variant of 1.5mill, and suddenly you refresh and there's one on there for 200k, which you quickly buy and resell. Does anyone know who these stupid people are? Because it happens pretty frequently, mainly with commodities, if anyone knows who these people are please direct them towards me as i would like to thank them.

any NIC on the way could be faulty, that is true, but then there would be other services impaired as well... maybe there are, maybe not. But since players are online and I guess it's the same Datacenter, the problem should be well within the Datacenter...

i was ingame 11 12 ish hours ago working fine then began to get some server not responding again then just went to bed was sleepy now same thing launcher loading check connection unable to connect to patch server connecting is fine i'm able to be here my guess is this is whats caused all the recent server not responding issues since intel graphics patch(not intel user just using as point of reference) i'm guessing the fix may be too much for a section in the hops to play too many people all of a sudden again overworked parts of the connection something had to collapse trying to keep up.
i really hope you guys at cryptic have a back up plan for this i really really do i love the game
I don't think it's PWE's fault... Boston has just been hit by a 120-megaton thermonuclear weapon.
It's terrible - they're stacking the bodies like planks of wood, they turned our local food court into a triage center, people are walking around with melted faces and horrible radiation burns. There's been a spate of looting and home invasions.
Boston appears to have been the first city hit by a massive surprise attack from the diabolical forces of the European Union. New York should be hit shortly. I would imagine the West Coast should be feeling the burn in a few hours at most.
With all this horribleness going on, I'm glad I just bought a gas generator, an uninterruptable power supply, and satelite internet. I want to unwind from boarding my windows and doors with some Star Trek Online, and it frustrates me that the servers aren't available.
I don't care whether it's because of PWE ineptitude or nuclear war. Fix the problem. Now.
This just made my day. I tip my hat to you, sir. Although let's be honest, you live in a lead bunker...it's probably your internet connection that's the problem.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
i see the last post was over 3 hours ago,,, maybe some people are back in-game, but there is no such luck for me. just wanted to confirm this is still an issue. thanks
Don't know why it says i'm an ARC user. i will never use that TRIBBLE Cryptic!

Try going to the STO install folder and launching the game client from there. Not the launcher, the game client. They are two different files.
