I bought a lifetime sub because I believed in this game once.
I didn't do it for an exclusive shiny.

And for the record I would not object to the Lib Borg being made available to all players somehow, and one of my mains is a Borg.

    Sure *wink*

What ever keeps your warm at night in that little lifetime bed of yours :P

The thing that some people don't seem to get is that several of us "blue posters" had faith in the game and was willing to support it early on. I certainly didn't get it for the Lib Borg. I couldn't care less if it's offered again for a vet reward or something.

    Hmm... see, I do care.

But its difficult to make any kind of statement about it without sounding like I was after the Borg. Or in the case of my CO LTS, after the MU. I wasn't. I was in fact thinking I might be laid off and would rather have something to do while the economy ravaged my bank accounts and credit rating, figuring as long as I could afford food, rent, power, and internet, I could game.

I would not like to see either of these in the hands of Joe Average, even if he did spend 500 days waiting for it.

That said, I do support the idea of similar, but not the same. The "bronze medal" version to our "gold medal" current one. Mainly because of the recognition it represents. Let them have borg, but reserve some visual element of it, maybe? I suppose I could deal with that.

I keep Career Officer status, and any eye wear (after all, Seven didn't exactly have a big honking borg camera eye in the end), a 500-day vet gets the race, its abilities, and the basic hardware the old BOffs had, nothing more. Give a 600-day some MU clothes (including the Kirk top), but let me keep the Spock TOS MU top as an exclusive. That sort of thing. People get access, and its similar, but not exact, and so retains both the exclusive nature of reward, and the outreach to the Average Joe.

I dont care about TCT though, that thing was pointless and unexpected.

Of course, now I'll be accused of being an Elitist... but that's ok. I kinda like it. Er, the part where I vehemently represent but one side of the coin, not the name calling. That part gets childish.

Ok, I have a suggestion on how to make this "fair". Someone posted that the Titan in EvE cost approx $10 000 USD based on in game currency conversion rate to real money, but that you could build this ship without spending money through time and effort. Why not do this with the Galaxy-X? Keep it in the RAF as an incentive to those that want it now and have 5 friends who they can convince to both buy the game and then subscribe for another 30 days after their 30 days included is up, but also have a series of missions, or a long term crafting mission, that takes a couple months to finish, and offer it as a reward for doing that series of missions/crafting? This would mean that both sides are earning it, just in different ways.

That way you are keeping the subbers who don't want to RAF happy, but it also takes them time to get the ship, and you are keeping the people who support the RAF happy because they get it right away and don't have to wait. As well, since these missions would be optional, it keeps the numbers down because not everyone is going to do these missions if they don't like/want the ship. They could do this for all the new special tier 5 ships, make you have to earn them, like epic mounts in other games. This is just a suggestion, that at least might reduce some of the anger over this if something like this is implemented.

A couple of months would be a bit too much in this game, yeah EvE takes like half a year to assemble a Titan by a whole corp but that's a different beast.
I agree with the general idea though and earlier said that it would be ideal for the end of the new Memory Alpha crafting chain.
Let the referrers have it instantly, fine. But don't make it exclusive to that, it's ridiculous.

I do agree that it is ridiculous for it to be completely exclusive. But it shouldn't be easy to get by those that don't recruit, which is what the C-store allows. I do retract my support for having it as a C-store item; if they are going to use it for an incentive to recruit but also have another way to get it, the other way shouldn't be easy. Although the C-store gets them the money they seem to be after with offering it exclusively through the RAF program.

Then why refer? Why have that system?

Just take it out of that list entirely, and put something in there we can agree on. Not an exclusive item, but an exclusive VERIANT of something in-game achievable & C-storable.

But can we at least agree the Galaxy-X is simply too hot a topic to bother keeping in there, and they should alter the language to "exclusive in-game promotional thingy tba"?

I support this. Or maybe offer stuff as a really hard-to-get accolade.

Seems Cryptic would make far more money by offering *both* a referral program and putting it up on the C-store. Want it free? Go out and pound sand and get those referrals. For those that cannot get the referrals due to whatever reason, pony up the cash.

Excluding customers from any offer seems like a poor way to do business. Give your customers different ways to access all of your products rather than alienate them by restricting that access.

I can agree that the Gal-X has definitely become a bit too "hot topic" to be used. One thing not really elaborated on is that on top of the Gal-X and the BO, Cryptic is essentially paying you to recruit as well, as the total 2000 CPs offered as incentive (400 x 5 recruited) is worth about 25 bucks. That almost should be incentive enough, you can just keep recruiting and earning CPs that way, and then you never have to buy CPs to buy costumes/respecs/etc from the Cryptic store. Isn't that enough?

Referrers would still get a whole package of bonuses, including the Galaxy X without any of the in game effort required, the holocrewmember, CP, etc.

Why isn't that enough? WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE EXCLUSIVE?

The CPs and the titles should almost be enough, or some vanity pet or something, not something that actually has an effect (even a slight one) on the game. I mean, the CPs have monetary value, and allow you to buy stuff from the CS without having to spend your own money. Essentially Cryptic is paying you to refer, so why should other things such as the BO or the Gal-X even be offered? I mean, I do understand why they did it, but I don't think it was even necessary in the first place, if they had just announced the program and stated you get 500 CPs for each referral (I increased the number to make it more lucrative), I think that alone would have been enough to get people to do it. Or maybe offer a vanity shuttle pet or something else.

So....Klingons will get access to this as well, right?

    :(

Please stop making Fed-only reward content. Some of us still have mains that are Klingons and don't want to level from 0-45 again on the Fed side. Make a Klingon equivalent reward.

Sorry, I'll go post this in the Klingon section where no one will read it.

    I'm not bitter....

Because EVERYBODY just happens to know 5 people who like MMOs, like Star Trek, have computers which are powerful enough to play STO and with all those elements together, haven't already played it.

Also an important note, as this really offers nothing to those players who are Klingons only. Something that has been somewhat ignored up to this point.

So, your suggestion is this; the bonus for getting five people to play the game should be, you get access to stuff you already had.

Hey, while they're at it, maybe they could throw in a free Light Cruiser during the tutorial for anybody who gets ten subs!

Another important note. One of my friends that I gave a buddy key to can't run the game because she doesn't have a powerful enough computer, and thus, she won't be buying the game even if she is a Trek fan, because she doesn't really have the money for a new comp for one game. The rest of my friends either don't play MMOs, aren't Trekkies, have no plans to play because of the negative reviews and lack of content, or aren't PC gamers at all. I guess I can always just spam people lol.

Strawman. They would get it faster, and easier. They would get a bundle of bonuses.

With the CPs alone, you are earning points instead of having to pay for them. Why should there be any more incentive. You are essentially getting paid to recruit. Other people have to pay for those CPs, but you can earn them by referring. Thus, you can buy stuff from the CP without spending any of your own money. Why is that not enough of a referral reward?

I have a feeling that it will be available through some other means.

Not like a source or actual evidence but it makes sense following the promotion to open it up a bit. I had a dream that it was so.

Also, there was a midget dancing and talking backwards.

Yah i argued your first point and cryptic replyed with "we arnt technicaly able" which is bs but it makes sence. There trying to get people to get people into the game and by offering somthing people want is a GOOD thing.

and for you second thing its true thow people PAY for there friends to play with them soo.......

No harm done. My second comment was a half-joke anyway. I wasn't really offended.

The Galaxy x is pretty ugly actually , looks silly if you ask me now i look at it again , but some of us brought c-store credit for these skins like this and Excelsior perhaps one day , so to now shove it onto the reward of getting 5 friends to sign up is terrible , they should now be offering refunds on c-stor credits , things are just not looking that good lately , it seems to go up and down around here lol
