Yes there is, because you're getting it without spending points and you're getting a bundle of other things with it!
And what part of that not being considered "enough of an incentive" by Cryptic do you not get? They know this is a popular and highly requested item. That's why they are attaching it to the RAF program.
If I work for it in game or pay money for it, how is that NOT working for it?
Playing for a few hours to get it or spending a few bucks on it does not get you to bring in 5 additional subscribers. That is what they want you to do to earn it.
And referrers would get the Galaxy X and more. It just wouldn't be exclusive to them.
WHY do you have a problem with that?
To be honest, I could give a hoot who has what exclusive in game. If someone earned it by doing what was required, more power to them. Why do you have a problem with it? Because it takes effort? Because someone else will have a few more pixels in a video game that you don't?
That's not what I'm saying at all, and I've had enough of your elitist attitute.
Yes, that is what you're saying. You want a way to get it without having to do what is required of the RAF program. You've been admitting for pages now that "it's hard" and "a lot of effort" to get 5 new recruits, yet you don't want those who are willing to try and put forth the effort to be rewarded at all. Cryptic knows this will take some effort to get. They know that the Galaxy X is a prized reward. That's why they are going to give it to those who do the work. Trying to (incorrectly) lable me as an "elitist" doesn't change that.
You simply desire this situation because you personally think you're in a position a lot of people are not in and can take advantage over it, so you can lord it over the rest of us.
A horrible attitude.
You don't even know me so I don't see how you can come to the conclusion that I "lord" anything over anyone. In fact, I don't.
I've no idea if I can find 5 new recruits. I'm willing to give it a try though. If I can do it, great. If not, then oh well.
The Galaxy X was a specific ship created specifically for the Referral program. The goal with the other end game ships is that they would be unlockable by reaching the next tier level but the specifics of that are still be discussed.
Here's what I know about it so far - The cannon is specific to this ship, and takes the place of a weapon's slot, but is not an item that can be removed and placed on another ship. It shows up as a captain's power on your weapon tray. The beam is intendend to be a very narrow front cylinder beam that can pass through objects and hit multiple targets if you are lined up properly (out to a set distance).
There are no details yet on recharge timers or how it impacts cooldowns of other powers/weapons.
I've also heard rumor that it may have a non-battle cloak - which means that it might be able to cloak - but only out of combat.
Once the designer is finished with the ship - I'll see if I can get the full details.
The ship will be available by the time that your referals hit their first 30 day billing cycle.
also...
Management is aware of this thread ...

What happened to the idea that everything gamechanging will be attainable ingame?
Umm - exactly HOW is anything here 'gamechanging'? did you miss the part in the above post that states:
The cannon is specific to this ship, and takes the place of a weapon's slot, but is not an item that can be removed and placed on another ship.
So, in effect, it comes with ONE LESS customizable weapons slot than the other Tier 5 ships; and it's permanently tied to the ship. Personally, would I want a permanent limited arc weapon in the place of a fully customizable weapon slot? Probably not. YMMV - but HARDLY 'game changing/breaking.
Also, the non-combat cloak is still under consideration; BUT it's hardly game changing as all Klingon ships have one. It's not going to provide any sort of advantage in PvE or PvP. Maybe a few RPers are liking this, but again from a gameplay perspective, again, hardly 'gamechanging'.
This particular ship may have been in 'just one episode', but that's more than 80-90% of the ships in the game. Actual Star Trek ships, uniforms, graphics, and other such content should have been in this game at launch, rather than plodding ahead with the add-on cryptic designs now flooding the c-store.
That's the point they never get.
That's why I was writing they don't understand what it means to make a "Star Trek"-Community happy.
They will not get it. Sadly.
Perhaps we should put it out in some harder words:
"Put your customization system to a place where the sun never shines but give us some REAL Star Trek in this game! Excelsior, Constellation, Nebula, Galaxy-X...! That is STAR TREK, not this copyright violation from Star Wars Episode One's Naboo Fighter called "Emissary"."

GOT IT NOW?
keep in mind it costs lots of money to get the copy rights to incorperate canon things in game.
if you look at it like the money spent on 5 people subscripbing = the right for 1 person to use the ship in game, it does make sense... that's kind of why they don't have more canon things or more voice actors, cost to get copy rights.
Um... Galaxy-X isn't Star Trek. Its ONE episode, and doesnt the presence of an odd number of nacelle raise a few issues? I seem to recall the "vast majority" of trekkies thinking this particular ship is in fact canon breaking back when it first appeared.
And where's my link to the outcry for this ship prior to this reward?
Lets make this about the ship itself, since people seem to want to.
I see a very small number of people here making tons of noise by repeatedly posting (the reason I'm here in fact is to balance you lot out), but nothing to show me the "vast majority" of what is arguably "more than 100,000 subs" clamoring specifically for the Galaxy-X.
Show me a 50,001-person thread all asking for this specific ship. I'll even take 4,001 individual players voting for it, assuming an 8% of players sized forum community.
Because if this is the "majority" (and we assume 8% of all actually post here), then we have somewhere under 700 subs in this game.
1) To those claiming "If you want the ship, jump the hoops"; Your blaize response simply does not address the fact that most people simply do not feel this game is in a state worth referring friends to, no matter what the rewards involved are. It also does not address the fact that the numbers involved basically encourages spamming, bribery, and all sorts of underhanded behavior that will be detrimental to the game in the long run.
Well I can't speak for anyone else, but I showed the RAF page to my boss and asked if she wouldn't mind trying the game for a month when the RAF goes live. She's a fellow Trek fan and said "sure". There is another gal here who I know is a Trek fan. I asked her if she would be interested. She said "sure". I didn't have to bribe them or spam her or do anything underhanded.
Also, if they don't feel the game is up to "Trek" standards, then how is giving them something for nothing going to help?
2) Dismissing people who want this ship as 'lazy' ignores a very large problem this game has; It's a Star Trek game marketed towards Star Trek fans....with very little Star Trek content. And more and more actual Star Trek content is being created, but withheld from the general playerbase without jumping through financial hoops (Buying redundant copies of the game, a lifetime subscription for another game, and now bullying people into doing the same). Fans on a budget are not lesser fans than those with deep pockets, especially those who've dumped a lot of money into this game already and feel the overt and blantant fleecing simply will not stop.
I don't see where anyone is forcing anyone to pay more than they can afford? Your point also doesn't hold much weight as many have said it should go into the C-Store, so they can obviously pay for it. I guess that's not fleecing them then....
I'm wondering if Cryptic would have the courage to turn this into a polling question....I doubt it.
Would you be able to find 5 friends that are not already in-game, willing to purchase STO and subscribe after the first 30 days?
My answer to this pivotal question is "No".
Not because I don't think it's a great game or because I would not want to refer it to anyone. I just don;t know 5 people that play PC games that are not already playing STO or have tried it and moved on already.
I really don't even care about the ship itself, I don't fly cruisers and I likely never will. If it were an Escort class ship I might be PO'd about it more. But, what I do see here is an unfair practice of putting out a major game elements (Fed Cloaking, ability to fire through objects, or hit multiple targets) being given to such a small number of players.
First, these abilities should be given to a variation of all three classes of ship.
Secondly, there should be several ways in order to aquire one, including a free way (completing a long serise of missons or from a certain number of Marks from running dailies.
1000 Marks of Exploration = 200 days!!
Unlike the Veteran's Bonus, this is just not 200 days of passed time, you must also save up 1000 Marks of Exploration.
Cryptic will attract a great number of players to sub / resub for at least another 7 months!!!

It's not about numbers.
You don't know the correct numbers how many players want this ship or not. Even only a small part of the community is active in the forums - as I was inactive until this referral program was announced.
All I know is I have 25 players in my vent, Star Trek-freaks, which consider the 25th century Galaxy-X as part of the TNG final as a "highlight" of the series. And I see them caught in an enraged discussion about ragequitting a game which was fun to us since yesterday.
We've already two players canceling their subs today asking us to write them an e-mail if Cryptic changes mind in this case. And I fear, some more will follow the next days.
This is no fun.
But the Galaxy-X is important to some players. Home many players do you need to take a demand worth a thread? 100? 1000? 10000? At what point is a customer's voice loud enough to be heard? Is it all about numbers in your view?
First, these abilities should be given to a variation of all three classes of ship.
You don't know that they won't be. For all anyone knows, that cannon will be available on all T5 ships, not just the Galaxy X version. That's kind of why everyone should wait for the full details....

it is about the numbers, if only 10 people out of 10000 people want something, you really think cryptic is going to change it's whole game plan just to please 10 people? really? not likely... doesn't matter how loud those 10 people scream they won't get thier way....
it's like peeing in the ocean trying to change the water level, ain't going to happen unless you're able to pee 5000 gallons per second.....

Voice Actors is one thing, because CBS does not own the IP rights to that person.
All things "canon" do belong to CBS. CBS already has the copyright to anything they want from any of the TV series'. It does not cost them one extra dime, other than the cost to develop and code it into the game.
I'm pretty sure dstahl already stated that the cannon and all that is extra on the Galaxy-X will be exclusive to that Starship, it will be a completely seperate Starship and you won't be able to mix and match parts.
Doing that will also enable them to add unique feaures to the cannon and add Saucer Seperation.

it DOES cost atari and cryptic money to add anything canon in sto because they hae to BUY the rights from cbs... get your facts straight
So, I just told my friends in vent we are not enough.
Time for us to shut up now.
We will wait until Cryptic makes a statement about this and then decide to stay or not. 25 customers don't count? So 25 customers should not be to hard to replace in their subscriptions.
But hey, just 5 players crazy enough to act as marketing slave to get this ship are needed to fully compensate us.

Dude, your funny. Go check the most recent poll numbers that Nagus threw up. I'm pretty sure this isn't a "vocal minority" issue now. I've seen community reactions like this before having been here so long... and again... this is NOT a "vocal minority" issue. Most people are on the same page.

You are correct. People keep trying to counter this, but I am too lazy to go find the quotes.

How about they try to please a hunderd thousand or more players by making this a Tier 6 ship, unlockable at RA 10 and costing 1000 Marks of Exploration.
RA 10 will probably take about 2 weeks for your average RA 5 to reach.
1000 Marks of Exloration will take another 200 days after that.
This way Cryptic will be farely sure that they will keep their current player base interested for the next 6+ months!!
Leave the "get 5 friends to sign up" option for those who can find 5 frineds that are not already in the game.

Peace out!
link it please?
and if it's an outside link(outside the sto forums) it doesn't count, since only people who already play the game can post in these forms, while anybody who owns the game or not can post in an outside forum, thus making the poll results inconsistent since anybody weither they honestly want it or not, can post.

it's a good idea, and i could see it working, only thing i'd still like to see are the numbers, i'd like to see where 100000 people want this ship =/

I suggested tier 6 and 7 Starships in my ranks thread in my sig, as well as the "refit" feature that many other players would love to have in game.
I stil believe that this Starship should be available at tier 6 as well as many more, and I still want them to sort the ranks out, but that's a different matter. LoL
I would also use CP to purchase this, but as for Refferals, unless they do something to make our Friends want to play this game, (long term), I will fail in acquiring one test referal.
A petition for CP Purchase or Veteran Reward, and I will /sign
honestly if this thread get's it's way. i'm going to start a thread and post in it non-stop to have a pet panda incorperated in game.
My wife would buy STO if she could have a pet panda in game But seriously, your sarcasm is noted. The STO community does have a "tiny" tendency to demand things... NOW. I agree with others, it wasn't as polished as it could be at launch. But hell, we've been given a lot and its only been three months in.

Tiny? lol yeah right. These are the most demanding, I'm entitled to Everything community I have ever seen. Bar none.

they are/will.. that's #1 why the referal isn't in effect yet and #2 why they make so many updates, the game is unfinished but with each week they add little bits here and there to make it more rounded and enjoyable, wait 3 months and see how much the game has improved.

what's funny is, i did make a thread a while ago about putting a panda in every bar...it didn't get very far -pouts- =[
They have a great IP,
They have a great engine,
They have good coders,
They have a more loyal customer base than the ususal MMO-hoppers,
They have real fans out there, and...
They have a marketing department which acts like a bull in a china shop.
They have no idea what's it like to deal with a "Star Trek"-community.
Do you know what reminds me to this? "Star Wars Galaxies". One of the best games i ever played when it was released in 2003. SOE didn't understand why the community didn't want unlimited player jedis implented. They patched them in. Weeks later they had hopping hundreds of jedis through their game.
They had no idea how to deal with a Star Wars-Community and what means "continuity" to them.
SOE failed hard because they didn't understand their most loyal customers: The Star Wars Fans.
CRYPTIC is going to fail because they don't understand their most loyal customers: The Star Trek Fans.
Just remember this: If you do it right, these players would still be here when your usual MMO-hoppers are long gone and away to the next hyped game like SW:TOR from Bioware. You cann't avoid the hoppers to leave. But you can hold the Star Trek Fans forever. If you listen to them.
So let me get this straight;
According to you SOE failed because they turned the Jedi into something that everybody could get without any real effort......ok fair enough.
But at the same time you say that Cryptic is failing because they are not going to make a very unique ship available to just anybody? That's umm.......that's just great there man........
Dude, your funny. Go check the most recent poll numbers that Nagus threw up. I'm pretty sure this isn't a "vocal minority" issue now. I've seen community reactions like this before having been here so long... and again... this is NOT a "vocal minority" issue. Most people are on the same page.
Peace out!
How many people have posted in that poll Jacob? How many people posted in the Player-faction poll? The numbers suggest it's a pretty vocal minority, as opposed to the majority of the player-base. Most people will continue to log into the game and just not care while they go about enjoying the game.

We will wait until Cryptic makes a statement about this and then decide to stay or not. 25 customers don't count? So 25 customers should not be to hard to replace in their subscriptions.
But hey, just 5 players crazy enough to act as marketing slave to get this ship are needed to fully compensate us.
It seems to work, somehow.
Dude, your funny. Go check the most recent poll numbers that Nagus threw up. I'm pretty sure this isn't a "vocal minority" issue now. I've seen community reactions like this before having been here so long... and again... this is NOT a "vocal minority" issue. Most people are on the same page.
Peace out!
Leave the "get 5 friends to sign up" option for those who can find 5 frineds that are not already in the game.
link it please?
and if it's an outside link(outside the sto forums) it doesn't count, since only people who already play the game can post in these forms, while anybody who owns the game or not can post in an outside forum, thus making the poll results inconsistent since anybody weither they honestly want it or not, can post.
it's a good idea, and i could see it working, only thing i'd still like to see are the numbers, i'd like to see where 100000 people want this ship =/
I suggested tier 6 and 7 Starships in my ranks thread in my sig, as well as the "refit" feature that many other players would love to have in game.
I stil believe that this Starship should be available at tier 6 as well as many more, and I still want them to sort the ranks out, but that's a different matter. LoL
A petition for CP Purchase or Veteran Reward, and I will /sign
So let me get this straight;
According to you SOE failed because they turned the Jedi into something that everybody could get without any real effort......ok fair enough.
But at the same time you say that Cryptic is failing because they are not going to make a very unique ship available to just anybody? That's umm.......that's just great there man........
How many people have posted in that poll Jacob? How many people posted in the Player-faction poll? The numbers suggest it's a pretty vocal minority, as opposed to the majority of the player-base. Most people will continue to log into the game and just not care while they go about enjoying the game.
