I'll third this one! I'm running an iMac 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo with the 8800 GS. The game runs beautifully through the wrapper - until I dock at Earth Spacedock. Then STO crashes, and any attempts to re-log (since I'm now at Spacedock) also crash.
I'm running the same specs, a wonderful 24'' iMac 3.06GHz C2D with nVidia 8800GS.
You enter a space station and it crashes. It's annoying but I'll try lowering the graphics quality and see what happens. Makes sense since I remember this problem going away after renderscaling to less than 1. I hate nVidia.
Hey I was just wandering if the graphics support for the game running in mac will get better i'm running it on a 27 inch mac, I spent all last night setting up parallels and the game and then to find that it wont run kinda annoyed me lol, But coming across your alternative was really really good. Thanks, However the graphics do feel quite old, I don't know whether this is just my expectation of the game or because it is running through wine.
Is the anti aliasing going to be fixed in to this mac alternative also ? Thanks agian
Could it be possible to have instructions in the first page how do you update your version? Also, is there a way to see which version of beta I'm running? Sorry if there questions are obvious, but I'm a new mac-user
At the moment it's working really well with half-resolution option, even with not-so-good connection, and I'm bit hesitant to update a working product. Got that from the pc-world :P
Just use Bootcamp already, this back door way of doing things is ridiculous you can get win XP or vista for cheap and I can confirm on my 27" iMac this this is smooth and perfect running under steam with Vista Home.

Running at max graphics, I crashed in a large fleet action (Breaking the Planet) when all the players were massed together. I turned my detail settings down to 100% from 200% (or the first tick down from max on the basic graphics slider), and I had no trouble finishing the fleet action or returning to Earth Spacedock.
With GLSL enabled at 100% detail, the game is running flawlessly.
For reference, I'm on a MacPro 1,1 with 6GB RAM and a flashed 512MB ATI Radeon 4870.

Over time, but there are some Wine limitations right now, and I'm not a Wine expert enough to add int he support needed.... I can do simple fixes in Wine code, or work arounds, but whatever its needing for AA is a bit more extensive.

how to update, or install from a working Windows install, are both the same set of directions, in the Directions.pdf with the download.... you basically just move the Crytpic Studios folder from one wrapper to the other.
as for the version, if your running with Finder in columns mode, you can see it in the Info pane, or you can right click the app and hit Get Info, and see the version.

Seems like a lot of work for no reason.
Troll much? Why run a Mac at all, why not just buy a PC then and always run Windows and not ever worry about it? That answer is as bad as just telling people to stop buying Macs and buy a Windows machine.
Do you have any idea what's causing the fonts to mess up in the game? That's pretty much the only thing that detracts from the experience imo.
Is there also anything to stop the mouse from going crazy when you move it out of the game when in windowed mode? I.e. I'm running STO in full screen mode but the wrapper's set to run in a window. If I'm using the mouselook mode in the game and move the mouse out of the wrapper's window my view control goes haywire. Maybe a simple "if mouse goes out of the game area then mouse movement = 0"?
Just wanted to update and say how great it's working. My only complaint is the messed up font, but that's something I've been able to live with in return for OS X. I love just swiping to the side of the screen and grabbing something off my desktop real quick. Great work. Please keep us posted if you make any improvements!
I dug through the forums but didn't see anyone else reporting this, so hopefully I'm not duplicating something else.
I'm running on a Macbook Pro 17" 2.4 Ghz with 4 GB memory and a GeForce 8600M GT. It's running beautifully, with only one real hitch. It's very, very dark -- space scenes generally mean that I can't see asteroids against the starfield, it's so dark. (Though lights like the windows on my ship show up very well.)
I've tried adjusting my Gamma in system preferences with no help. I've tried the Brightness slider in the Video control panel with no difference. It seems like the game is adjusting the Gamma and making it too dark, reducing contrast (and saturating colors).
Is there something I can do to brighten stuff up a bit?
As a side note, running it in Windows 7 via Bootcamp on this system doesn't have my Gamma/darkness issues. Aside from those darkness issues and the known antialiasing issue, there's very little difference in results between the wrapper and running it native. This is some amazing work.
I haven't seen a way to get the slider for brightness to work as of yet...
I noticed its dark as well, but turning up my screen brightness has always been enough to see it clearly. I didn't think about the older non LED backlight screen not being nearly as bright.... I'll have to see if I can figure out why the slider doesn't work.

You are a gentlemen and a scholar, and I hope you win seven million dollars.
By some small tweaks in the info.plist I was able to run Champions Online with this wrapper. It looked great but was missing audio. You've done a great job.:)
not anytime soon... sorry... when a new version of Xquartz is out that detects and maps keys better on keyboards, then I can upgrade it... I haven't found a decent work around... kinda been using Xquartz as default as possible since I'm far from an X11 expert.... I haven't gotten Alt working right in any game yet, not just this one.
I just tried this on my new MacBook. I used the pre-installed drop method, and it worked great. There was some artifacts in space during the cut scenes, but otherwise , Brilliant!!
Ok so after a few weeks of testing i've run into exactly zero issues. Game runs great both in window and fullscreen modes and while performance isn't great at higher settings that's not such a big deal.
I want to say thanks to doh123 for putting this together and spending the time to make updates. My system specs:
Macbook Pro 15in
OSX 10.6.2
2GB RAM
Core 2Duo 2.4Ghz
GeForce 9600M GT
One question, in beta 4 you changed the settings application so i can no longer point the executable to a different file. Is there another way to do this? I was also using this package to run champions online.
Hey doh I was just wandering if you could tell me how to turn on the AA on wineskins, I would like to test it to see what affects it has to the game, Thanks

Yeah.... I thought that would make it simpler, but it didn't really... you can take the WIneskinSettings.app from beta 3 and throw it in there and replace that one and it'll fully work.... or download Wineskin RC7 and take the WineskinSettings.app out of that and use it... it'll work as long as its thee in the right spot... I don't hard code it for a single wrapper.

well if you edit the User.reg file in Contents/Resources ... and under Software\\Wine\\Direct3D you can add a line that says "Multisampling"="enabled" then it'll try to do AA... but it doesn't actually work, and causes a loss of FPS.
When you load the game, does it always give you the window saying your system has changed and ask if you want default or minimal settings?
I get that every time. I just select default and it plays just fine. I suppose I could check the box that would stop them from asking, but I haven't yet.

I do the same. I've checked the box but it still comes up.

Troll alert...
Shields up!
Phasers to full, and fire at will...
I have a MacBook Pro Running Leopard.
NM... I placed the macbook on performance so it would turn on the extra video card and it worked... weird.

Its drag and drop, if you have it installed in a bootcamp partition already.
A read me is included in the download with instructions to get it working.
thats the easiest... or you can use the normal setup.exe with the Installer built in.
