91 posts isnt mega. Mega is upwards of 4k of which there is only one, the mighty and unrivaled "what is your beef with the galaxy cryptic?"

But i am also getting real sick of this TRIBBLE.
Inertia just means you can do Powerslides in you carrier!

Seems like the recurring theme here is the packet drop that's occurring up and down the Cogent backbone...

I've been having diconnect issues ever since the winter games patch, S8 not so bad but as of about 4-5 days ago the game has become unplayable. I haven't been able to play the game longer than 5 minutues and thats on a good login. Most of the time its just stuck on a screen that says trying to connect to login server and like everyone else here ive spent a ton of money and I'm highly pissed. Cryptic needs to get there servers fixed. Im gonna stop here if I go on any further i might say something ill regret later im starting to get really pissed. I also read some other posts about internet providers mine is Time warner.

It's not just your direct provider that could be the problem - it's the big providers like Cogent in between.

Cryptic's server seems to be fine, as shown by the fact that the vast majority of players don't seem to be having trouble.
You're right. The work here is very important.

If its not cryptic nor Time warner and you say it might be the Big providers then how do I go about fixing this mess?? Any info will help.

I feel like every reply I get about not being able to connect to the game is trying to steer me clear of the Real problem here. Im being told it may be my internet provider, it may be the ppl inbetween. But I had a wise old man tell me once to always consider the source. Heres the facts, I played the game for 6 months straight with the same internet provider and i had no problems. I have also in the past few days tryied many other games and they all work fine. The problem started after the patch last week and that my friends is the Enemy. Thats where the problem originated and thats where it needs to be fixed. So how do we get Cryptic to actually look into it and not just sit back and say over and over, there not at fault, lets say by facts thier not to blame 1 in a million but I still wanted them to look into it. How would that happen. Should i just throw my hands up and say F?!@#-it or what?? anyone really know??

According to my ping & tracert, the issue is with Cogent & the latency on their end is bad so unless Cryptic complains then nothing will happen & we'll just have to wait until the problem(s) are fixed. Cryptic folks should be receiving alerts but who knows.

Hey Cryptic personnel! Do something like call Cogent, submit trouble tickets, etc!

Now normally, 180ms would be the upper level of acceptable latency, assuming that there was no packet drop occurring... The next question is, do you have a packet drop issue on your connection??? substitute the 'pathping' command for the 'tracert' command, and post the results, as that would provide much more solid evidence for Cryptic/PWE to work with...

Ah yes, the "We looked, and it's all at your end guys cause our servers rock" thread. Thing is, while I'm watching "Server Not Responding" and waiting for what I know comes next, the "wonderful" Zone chat keeps right on chugging.

Maybe we could get them to run the game servers on the chat hardware that seems to be unstoppable, and run the Zone chat I wouldn't miss on the current "hit-or-miss" game hardware? :D

I haven't been able to play STO for more than 20 minutes at a time (actually more like 2-10 minutes at a time before I get disconnected tome the game server).

Sure, I got the random disconnect in the past but I've never had THIS much trouble playing the game. I've triple checked everything. It's not a connection problem on my end. Something got messed up on Cryptic's side after the last patch.

It's as if Cryptic's server can't handle all the daily traffic generated by the Winter event free ship giveaway so random player just get disconnected whenever the server reaches capacity.

In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."

Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.

I'm a player with lots of alts so changing characters is really special right now.

I get disconnected logging in, changing maps, and at random intervals just playing.
I did tracerts, dns flush, speed tests etc. per instructions on these forums, but you know...
I've been here before. The problems coincide with patches every time they pop up. Whatever patch got us ready for winter also initiated the crashing.

There have been three or four memorable times in STO's lifetime where I've had issues and they always correspond with a patch and are resolved eventually with another patch. I quit playing for a year and came back for f2p and was like wow, things work now! I've been here mostly ever since. I was having a pretty good run this past year but I guess I was due for this?

I was just happy a new character I made only got booted once during Mirror Invasion hour this morning, that was nice. I am running the winter race on ten characters and am crashing at least once each. Two d/c'd mid-race. The races aren't taking long but the crashing means I pretty much just want to log off after I get the photos.

I'm also getting disconnected quite a bit when changing maps / toons / etc.. hope they actually fix it cause it's getting ridiculous.

edit: since this post I've had no less than 5 'server not responding' errors and disconnections. This is making the game almost unplayable especially with multiple toons.

Another possibility that I ran into with another game that could be at play is if Cryptic changed the way data is handled with the latest patch. At one point said other game changed it's method for handling data to increase efficiency and ran afoul of one of the providers who did not support the changed format and ended up throttling the game data going through it's servers.

update: I set the launcher to use the US proxy for both game play and patch and did another verify. Seems to be holding for the moment so here's hoping.

I'm not saying it is your problem, but it's not on our end, as evidenced by the tracerts posted in this thread.

Here's what I've done: I've passed along your tracerts to the team and requested, that if possible, to forward them along to the Cognet.

While I wish there was more we could do in the immediate, I will continue to monitor the tracerts posted in this thread and forward them along.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

    Branflakes,

Thanks for the post. I've been here since Beta and have seen a lot of funky stuff go down. All in all, as evidenced by my continued presence, I am a fan who's happy about how you guys have kept this behemoth running. That said, I am hating the issues that seemed coincidentally correlated with the winter wonderland rollout. It's hard to play when you DC every few minutes. PS... as a Zen junkie, I would note that Cognet is hampering your bottom line.

Thanks again for the post and all you've done. I hope the situation resolves itself soon so I can start mainlining Zen again to please my far East overlords.

Well, another day has come and still DCing every 1 to 5 minutes in sto. This Dcing popped up right after that emergency patch late thursday/early Friday morning. It seems to me that every time something bad happens in the game has always been after a patch. So until its proven otherwise i will stick the cause of these DC's on the Dec 5th's 2nd patch.

    Update fellas.

Ok, I am running a Radeon 6800 and had been using beta drivers. I was DC'ing every couple of minutes with my tracert showing problems with Cognet.

Today, I downgraded to driver version 13.152.1.1000 with a date of 9/10/13. Since that change, I'm running smooth and clear. Will update as info becomes available.

I could buy the problem was on my end IF the constant DC's had not started the gaming session following downloading the Wonderland patch.

Yup. Amazing how some mysterious third party suddenly started causing problems at precisely the same time we got the "emergency maintenance" update.
In all the time playing STO up till that point I'd been DC'd perhaps twice. Now it happens at least four to five times an hour. Game Server, Login Server, Account Server, error after error after error.

I get "DC spam" on a fairly regular basis myself- as in, for a few days to a couple of weeks after pretty much every major update.

But of course it's all coincidence.

    -snicker-
I can stream 1080p video without a hitch while surfing the Internet and streaming music. Yet even if I shutdown every program I still DC constantly with STO.

Pretty much the same here. Anything other than STO, no problem. STO- welcome to DC city. For the game anyway- I've sat for 3 minutes chatting while the game was locked tight and flashing its red "can't contact the game server" message. Pretty sad when they can't get you the game, but the scintillation that is Zone chat continues unabated.

I can even go surf or play other games fine while an attempt at relogging into STO sits at "Connecting to login server" for 3 minutes before telling me "Good luck, we're DCing you before you even get in from being kicked the last time."

But the fact that it's STO and only STO, as we've observed before, is 100% pure coincidence. Just like it consistently is when it happens after every major update.

I've been playing today, and the server has been constantly unresponsive.

This has happened to me about 10-15 times today. My internet connection has been fine. Maybe it's something on the other end.

Please take a look into it. I'm not sure if other people are having the same problems - I tried to ask on the ingame chat, but I got disconnected before I got my answer.

    Thanks.

what more is there to say...... I thought perhaps after the last patch, this was fixed....

Ever since the launch of season 8..... the most time I can spend on sto without being kicked off the server is 5 measly minutes.

    That's it, just five!!!!

And sometimes, like now, I can't even log back in......

Of course there's nothing you can do, no one to get help from, and that is a shame.

Before season 8, everything was absolutely fine. Now? it makes me really sad, to not be able to exist in the universe of Star trek anymore because of this.....

thank you cryptic or sto or whomever is responsible, for bugging the game up so I can no longer play.

I appreciate all the time wasted on it. I may never see my Home world of Bajor again.

The weekend I played with no problems. Until Sunday evening.
Then I started to get dc'd again, once every 20 mins or so.
At least it isn't every 5 mins as it was last week.
Hopefully this clears up in a few weeks...I seemed to remember similar issues came with the release of LoR. Took several weeks before things stabilized and by the time the Risa event went live, I was playing with almost zero DCs. Except when my laptop would get too hot and auto DC me.
I'm guessing this will sort itself out...
Last night played for 2 hours, had about 5 DCs
That's not great.. but much better then last week every 5mins. Was able to get my rep projects updated and go mark grinding, even played a bit of pvp Ker rat.
I'm skipping the Winter Event... Figure too many people are trying to do it. And believe I'd get dc'd more if I was trying for those queues.
Also, it was a new season and all.. wonder how many part timers/new players are coming to log on to STO during the last few weeks...wonder if the influx of players has anything to do with these DCs ...

    Howdy Taylor,

I agree, yet I feel like this is worse than LoR . That wasn't as bad as this. I can't seem to play sto for more than 5 minutes, since season 8 launch. And it's soo depressing. I'm wondering if I'm ever going to be able to play the game or visit Bajor ever again. I can't even log in sometimes.

I agree about the winter event, my reason for loggin in right now is to just play foundry episodes.

Yet I can't even stay logged in for 5 minutes. :(

It all was about money as usual, STO wanted to bring out season 8 without testing things enough.

I hope , though I doubt very much right now, that the game server crashes gets fixed someday within the next 100 years or so. :(

By the way, luv the pic of Cloud, that's one of my favorite psone games I have.

    Howdy danielpenfold,

Thank you kindly for the advice. I have already done that a few times and all they say is, they are are working on fixing these known issues......

Then when each patch comes , nothing gets fixed even though they state they have been fixed....
