The problem is with te3-2.ccr01.bos06.atlas.cogentco.com. There is a significant amount of packet loss coming from it.

It is not a problem with anyone's computers but rather one of the backbones. Cryptic/PW should get on it because they have a lot more influence; Cogent will not care if we complain.

Try replacing the 'tracert' command with the 'pathping' command, as unlike 'Trace Route', 'Path Ping' will show if you have a dropped packet issue, and where it is occurring...

Though keep in mind that compared to the likes of Netflix, YouTube and Hulu, PWE is a very small fish in a very large pond... Cogent happens to host Netflix Servers, and you can bet that complaints from Netflix will have priority over complaints from PWE...

Yes, but, PWE is a customer. I am not. If I were to call their NOC, they would not even give me the time of day. Presumably, PWE has some sort of SLA that guarantees a certain level of service.

And this is the reason why STO Users with connection issues should be posting their 'Trace Route' and 'Path Ping' diagnostics on the PWE Tech Support Forum... To expect PWE to yell at Cogent to 'FIX IT' without any evidence what the issues are just isn't going to work...

I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I allowed 15% packet drop on my networks (other than traffic shaping) and I know of no SLAs that would allow for that.

This is apparently not a limited problem :

Well it could be a DX11 problem indeed , correct me if im wrong but i really think it is
because everytime you load into a area/map then the game is patching , so it means your getting those data about that specific map straight from the STO servers.
And indeed if the DX11 is glitching and loading to long it will lose connection.
Im gonna try tommorow to play whole day on DX9 and look if there is any difference.

    So far so good.
Saturday I played about 3 hours and today about 3 hours.
Haven't been dc'd as of yet.

I remember a thread where a dev had said playing in dx9 mode is recommended. Being that some things don't crossover so well to dx11. Could cause errors etc.
This was a support thread for S8, when it first got patched.

    Anyways that's my 2 ec.
    Hope it helps someone .

Of course not. It's always our problem, and not STO's flawless servers and software.

I'm not saying it is your problem, but it's not on our end, as evidenced by the tracerts posted in this thread.

Here's what I've done: I've passed along your tracerts to the team and requested, that if possible, to forward them along to the Cognet.

While I wish there was more we could do in the immediate, I will continue to monitor the tracerts posted in this thread and forward them along.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

I could buy the problem was on my end IF the constant DC's had not started the gaming session following downloading the Wonderland patch.

In all the time playing STO up till that point I'd been DC'd perhaps twice. Now it happens at least four to five times an hour. Game Server, Login Server, Account Server, error after error after error.

I can stream 1080p video without a hitch while surfing the Internet and streaming music. Yet even if I shutdown every program I still DC constantly with STO.

I was going to ask the wife for a subscription for the holidays. That's off the table until this gets fixed. Like domvina said, I've had very few DCs prior to the wonderland update. Coincidence? Maybe. But given the history of post content patches, my money is staying in my pocket for now.

I just spent 15m trying to log in after being DC'd. Constant issues with connecting to the Gamer server, the Login server, the Account server. Everytime one server let me in another would kick me out. Here's the tracert:

I will give Cryptic one potential "out" on this issue because I did see something similar in a different game many years ago. One of the Internet nodes between the primary IP provider in my state and the neighboring states and the game's server location went down due to poor weather. With that node down game play became nearly impossible due to massive lag and constant DC's for all players in those states. This situation looks a lot like it did that time.

Unfortunately a fix only happened when the node was finally brought back online after nearly a month.

I was able to fix the issue by using a VPN to tunnel to connection to an endpoint that routes to Cryptic using a different path. This is, obviously, not a permanent solution.

So substitute the 'pathping' command for the 'tracert' command, and see if you're suffering from packet drop issues on your connection... as 'Trace Route' won't show packet drop...
