I am not able to load the launcher, but I can if I VPN to my work. I tried disconnecting from the VPN when I hit the game, then logged in again, and it timed out when trying to connect to the game server.

Fatal Error:Unable to Initialize on demand patching and connect to Patch server
: The connection was Idle for too long

then I try again and get
An error was detected by the game would you like to verify all files?
Note: this may take 10-20 minutes

takes about 3-4 mins but it just does same thing all over I get other error message and the cycle begins again..
I am on Verizon DSL in Brooklyn NY USA

I'm getting the same error as this guy. I can actually log in through the launcher just fine, but when I load up the game it hangs on the big CRYPTIC logo for a while, then I get that.

    Here, have a screencap. http://i.imgur.com/3nfEL1e.jpg

For reference, I'm in Southern California, also using Verizon. So yay for that.

    @hotelkatz - Do the following:
    Hi Captains,

Thanks for the reports. So that our engineers can get more information, please reply and post your location, ISP provider and a tracert result pointing to: patchserver.crypticstudios.com

Instructions for running a tracert: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=225155

Please also post results from a Nettest. Instructions here: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=225155

I'll pass these along, however, as others have noted, this sounds to be isolated to one ISP so it may be up to them to resolve as everything looks healthy from our end. Thanks!

    Cheers,

It does indeed look like the problem is with Verizon FiOS.
It is most likely due to the Cogent/Netflix dispute.
    However...
Is there any way of providing those of us who have this problem with a proxy that
uses a different path from Verizon to you? [STO having an alternate ISP perhaps?]

[I have attempted and failed to connect using the US and EU proxys in the launcher,
probably because the US proxy also uses Cogent.]

Right now, as things stand, the game is unplayable.
This is especially unfortunate since we are missing the end of the Risan Summer Event.
It looks like we are caught in the middle of the dispute which has nothing DIRECTLY to do with Cryptic ...
but there are certainly steps which Cryptic can take which could alleviate this problem.

Yep you nailed it. Son of a !@#$%

Isn't it great that corporate greed is allowed to affect the basic necessities of life, and yes internet is NOW one of those things.

I have Verizon Fios as well, and I'm getting the unable to authenticate for a second day in a row now.

Frustrated, I decided to try http://www.hotspotshield.com/ and can confirm that it allows me to play - noticeably faster than usual too - which I can only assume means Verizon's been throttling the game even when it does work for at least a month now.

I'm not saying this service is trustworthy, but we all know that Verizon isn't, and we pay them - and this is free, and it works. So yeah. Good luck all.

Alright, here's the Tracert and the nettest from my end

I'm using Verizon Fios. But I think that may very well be the problem, what with them having a dispute with Cogent/Netflix.

I'll pass these along, however, as others have noted, this sounds to be isolated to one ISP so it may be up to them to resolve as everything looks healthy from our end. Thanks!

Heya...understand it's not a Cryptic/PWE issue but I do wonder if you guys can contact the companies involved representing the hundreds if not thousands of your customers who are being impacted. You guys may have already done so...might get a different response than a bunch of individuals calling among many other calls they take for internet problems.

Basically at a loss at this point.

I have 9 Fed Characters and I can log into all but #2 and #5...#5 is stuck on Risa according to the Login Screen...I decided to test a thought and I moved #2 to Risa...After putting him on the planet I logged out and in of him 3 times...on the third try it started to time out the same as #5...Now #2 is stuck on Risa also...doubt if that makes a differance, but thought I would mention it just the same...

Tried my primary after coming in from yard work. No luck

I get pick of cancel/safe/normal login

I tried a secondary on my main account .. signed on ok. Went to primary I get he above pick.

Safe login - starts ok .. does not show a map .. then server timer starts after less than 10s go to server timeout.

normal login - starts ok .. then server timer starts and kicked in 10s to server timeout message.

Its as thought it does not know which map to put the character. Tried others and they seemed to do ok after several time of trying to load up - on these I can see "loading map x".

The problem started suddenly yesterday morning EST ~11 am. We are in Tampa, FL area, our provider is Verizon FIOS. I can do everything else that I normally do, including Netflix and Youtube. When I attempt to launch the game, I get an IE Explorer-type error "This program cannot diplay the webpage"...

I played ok yesterday, when i went to DS9, game booted me to login screen with a "timed out connecting to server" error message, i loaded the game again with another toon, this time i went to KDF academy and game booted me with the same error message as the first. loaded the game again, entered with my romulan toon, went to ds9 and BAM, booted to login screen with the same "timed out connecting to server" error message.

And today i get a "unable to authenticate" message on patcher/login window. I tried getting into Neverwinter (which i played yesterday without problem), and i get the exact same message, tried getting into champions online, same message, tried other online games and got in without a problem.

I have added exceptions to all games .exe on my personal firewall (comodo) and haven't had any problems until now

Here goes the tracert (jump 6 shows a time ended for this request message) and nettest results (from mexico using telmex/uninet ISP):

I've only been getting this problem on tribble, once I press engage my character starts loading and around 90% is says not responding. So far my holodeck is still working okay.
