Official Feedback Thread: Black Ice Shaping Profession

graalx3graalx3 Member Posts: 232
Black Ice Shaping
Black Ice Shaping is the new profession added for the Curse of Icewind Dale module. We are doing this profession a little differently as it is tied very closely to the Campaign in Icewind Dale. You will have to go to Icewind Dale to start this profession which means you have to have a level 60 character. To get your first craftsman and Rank 1 in Black Ice shaping you will have to complete a campaign task, Baerick’s Iceforge I. This campaign task will also award you a pair of the all important Gauntlets, a tool that is required for all Black Ice Shaping tasks. To progress in rank in Black Ice Shaping you will have to participate in the Icewind Dale campaign, further upgrading the Black Ice Forge.

• Baerick’s Iceforge I: At Rank 1 you are able to process the Black Ice you find, mine and earn while in Icewind Pass or Dwarven valley.
• Baerick’s Iceforge II: At rank 2 you can start making some of your Corrupted Black Ice gear.
• Baerick’s Iceforge III: At rank 3 you can make your weapon and some very powerful enchantments.

All Black Ice starts as Raw Black Ice. It is up to your Black Ice Shaping craftsman to process this Raw Black Ice into a useable form. Black Ice is the primary resource used for all Black Ice Shaping tasks. There are also several Black Ice Shaping resources that drop from the various Heroic Encounters. These resources are used in crafting the Corrupted and Purified Black Ice equipment.

NOTE: The Black Ice Shaping symbol and some of the resources are missing their artwork. Please don’t bug these quite yet. We will get to them before launch.

Feedback
We need to collect as much feedback as possible on this so we can make this profession as fun as possible. Given that, we would like you to categorize and color code your feedback so we can sort it and act on it most effectively! Please use the below format to submit bugs/feedback.

This gear seems much too easy to get for it's level of power.

Have you considered requiring level 18+ of the approriate craft (weapon/artificing, plate/mail/etc) to acquire the stuff needed to make refined black ice gear?

There will no longer be any reason to get weaponsmithing / artificing to 20.

I clearly haven't tested it, but I did watch the Russian livestream of module 3, which did show the incredibly powerful items.

I suppose that was the empowered version. Still an absurdly large number for one piece of armor.

To me, this alludes to a change in the tenacity formula (meaning other gear with tenacity would also have their values increased). The gear is still extremely OP compared to current offerings.

As for now, 1000 Tenacity is more then enough, I'm not sure why did they give that big numbers to the new gear. Seems like they really changed the way Tenacity works. May be they raised the cap of diminishing returns on Tenacity, because after 1k it starts to diminish hugely. In other words, now you have about 21% resistances with 1k Tenacity, with new gear you would have 4k Tenacity, which would give you ~7% (or even less) more resistances.

I think that was their point, make it easier but temporary requiring you to keep farming every day.

I agree though, I wish they'd make professions more useful and require level 18 to craft it.

We probably don't - but I actually wish we did - by requiring weaponsmithing/artificing/platesmithing/tailoring/whatever at 20 as well as black ice shaping, there would actually be a point in leveling those professions up.
    Hoping for improvements...

This is not how you make old professions useful.

Looks like the new enchants seem interesting. I wonder if this takes the place of normal enchants IN black ice armor, or if this is a special slot IN black ice armor for these enchants....

Id rather see them incoorperate old professions INTO this new system.

The base gear is made through professions, then use black ice profession to upgrade etc...

OR release new weapons/armor for the old professions that are on par with this new armor.

I did that, but it was acting like the server downtime day after that. I'll try again.

Thought I saw a dev post that said the new enchantments would have a special slot and could be used alongside existing enchants.

One thing I notice from those captures is that these enchantments say they bind on equip, which would mean that unlike other enchants, you can't sell them off if you decide to change them out.

I have their relevant professions maxed on most of my characters and it has nothing at all to do with being rich, just with having a high tolerance for constantly sending workers out to gather resources. I've fully levelled weaponsmithing using a single profession slot on one character using mass gather tasks. It took months, but it was neither difficult nor expensive.

I stopped levelling irrelevant professions on any characters once sufficient professions existed in the game to take three relevant ones, though I did get the one GWF's tailoring to 15 before they made the reinforced bracers BoP. Oh well.

Anyway, I do think it would have been nice for the old professions to have some synergy to the new one.

Well the new black ice weapons are going to make the formorian weapons look like a toothpick... So you want to give the best weapons to players who havnt leveled any professions? Why even have professions in the game? At a minimum it would be cool to see formorian weapons BOE then...

I would still like to see SOME benefit to professions, because now it seems this new module is going to make ALL previous items obsolete so why would I want to fun/farm anything but the new stuff?

Wow, astonishingly powerful burst enchants - but what is the percentage chance to activate?
The right to command is earned through duty, the privilege of rank is service.

    Feedback: Hire an additional Chillwright

The requirement of a chillwright to make another one is very annoying. In most professions that isn't required.

    Type: Bug
I am unable to cancel the task Process Raw Black Ice. Clicking on the No Entry button at the top right does give the Do you wish to cancel dialog, but clicking on Go ahead does not cancel the task.

E: I was able to cancel the task Hire an additional Chillwright, though.

You must be very jealous of rich people, as you always pull that card on any argument. What does financial status have to do with having a profession maxed?

    Agreed.

Why is this profession the only one that has that requirement?
