  • I use the tac dyson for quite a while now with my Romulan science captain. Initially I wanted to use it as intermediate solution and save up for a palisade or an orb weaver. Now I am very happy with it. It is a proper science vessel, comes with the awesome romulan cloak and singularity abilities, it can equip warbird…
  • My thoughts (before approaching the cinema next week): From what one can see from the trailer, my main conclusion is, that they spent millions of dollars on special effects and about 2 dollars on the story. Or even less. It looks like a five year old wrote the story and got a chocolate bar for it as reward. Not is it only…
  • TBR and tractor beam do not belong to the deflector system, but to the "tractor system" according to sto wiki: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Ability:_Tractor_Beam_Repulsors
  • An upgrade for the varanus would be great, but I doubt that will happen. Nevertheless, for a start, since there are 3 Gorn ships, a 2- and 3-piece set bonus for the consoles (Aceton assimilator, barrier field and support plattform) would be good. Something like a boost to turnrate, shields and drain or so.
  • Well, the trait is nice for my sci captains. It is the only free pilot ship so far (so I do not need to pay to see how pilot abilities work). It comes with bank and exchange on board (I think). I like how it looks. --> yes
  • There is also the T6 rom flag ship that comes with a third console to this set (http://sto.gamepedia.com/D%27Khellra_Warbird_Battlecruiser)
  • Yes, the doffed electrogravitic field is great and I use it on all of my scis. It is geologists from the reinforcements duty officer packs. An yes, most sci powers except heals "apply" the biochemist debuff. The question was what buffs the tachyon emission. As sci you basically have only the chance to debuff and expose,…
  • As sci you can use tricorder scan, nanoprobe infestation and dampening field (doffed with a biochemist) to debuff. Not sure if exposing helps. As eng...let's see....well, who needs that stuff, if one has mortars and mines :)
  • Just look back 50 (!) years: a black lady on the bridge of a space ship in an american tv show. That is simply amazing (in the years then). A plethora of other society problems have been tackled as well, not just racism (see a nice summary here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe7axuTmoUg). It's simple, Star trek is about…
  • Don't give up. One of my two mains is a KDF sci (in a palisade) and I made another KDF sci as delta recruit (in t5u varanus). I see no need to not go on with both of them only because PWE needs to bring more and more new ships every month or so with new tricks and stuff on board. I understand that people think they need to…
  • This! Whenever I read something like "science captains useless", "Tac/DPS >> all" or similar nonsense, then I wonder, if those who say that ever play something else than ISA.
  • Its not that bad. First, look at the stats at 130/135 aux. Then you have 1) sensor scan -> debuff for up to 15 targets (!), don't know the number now, not at home 2) scattering field ~ 100 all energy damage (at 130 aux) for you and your team mates (4 neutroniums for the nearby team) 3) subnuc is not completely useless in…
  • to post #2: OP clearly talks about space traits. How a female orion looks, does have no effect on how the ship performes (even though the thought is kinda fun. Imagine the ship flies worse because the pilot is distracted or so). edit: sorry for the double post. Wanted to edit and clicked quote (my post) instead.
  • There is also the Hierarch boff that comes with both efficient and pirate. There is also one space warfare specialist on rom side (D'vex), as well as veteran warfare boffs (probably extremely rare). The delta box boffs come with some extra traits: klingon with leadership, orion with efficient and vulcan with efficient (I…
  • Na, of course there are things sci captains can do better -> shield resist for the whole team (science fleet). Can tacs provide that kind of defensive support? Same with scattering field. Science captains come with two support abilities. That is certainly useful. -> sensor scan mass debuff. The whole team benefits from…
  • "Subnuc? Bosses, regular NPCs, it doesn't matter. The value of Subnuc is irrelevant in PVE. PVP, that's a different story altogether." It is not true and if you repeat it another ten times it won't get more true. It has it´s uses. Just do a HSE or a BDE. When the queen "vapes" the DPSers with feedback paule they will…
  • Let's see: "Science Captains do nothing better in Science builds than anyone else." AOE debuff with sensor scan? "Conservation of Energy Trait looks great on paper, but as you'll see in my linked post, it's not all that great and will be problematic if you have DPSers in your group, PUG or otherwise. I also emphasize that…
  • Is there a trick to get different BOFFS from the delta box? I always get exactly the same guys with same appearance and traits.
  • Well, how about changing sensor scan into - kinetic damage resist? Or something similar. I see your point and agree that just nerfing tacs (regarding exotic damage) won't be the ultimate solution to the problem.
  • Yes, it is really time, that the extra damage tacs get from their abilities is changed into extra weapons damage.
  • I would say, in space the captain career does not matter that much. Damage-wise you should be better with a science captain in the varanus due to sensor scan and conservation of energy. As engineer you will have better survivability, but you shouldn't have a problem with that as science captain either, since you are in the…
  • Sure, but it is the same for the other sets :) There is also the jem hadar set and the kobali "set" that you can get for free. Also you can craft armor, shield and weapon at MK II and upgrade it, if your R&D is high enough to produce "very rare" only. Besides that, a very useful weapon is the type 3 phaser rifle from the…
  • This is how I play ground as science captain at the moment: Armor, kit, shield --> Romulan set (free) Weapons: Plasma split beam rifle and plasma pulse wave assault (romulan kit boosts plasma damage) devices: large hypo (or cordrazine hypos from borg stfs), large shield recharge, gambling device (30 lobi or few million ec…
  • Life timers can also choose the varanus on KDF side. It was also a free give away last year or so. But you are right, there is no free science vessel for KDF, that is why I assumed OP might be KDF :)
  • The tactical DSD t5u comes with 2 eng, 5 sci and 4 tac console slots, while the science version comes with 3 eng, 5 sci and 3 tac console slots. I have to say, I am still very happy with the "old" science vessels (vesta, palisade, DSD, temporal). Mostly because all new ships seem either tac or eng heavy and there are no T6…
  • The tactical dyson science destroyer t5u is quite nice. It comes with 5 science consoles and you have a lt. commander tac (or even commander tac if you fly in tac mode). I bought the 3-piece set for the consoles, but the tac version alone is good, too (the protonic stuff is very specialized anyway). Other than that, there…
  • I am pretty sure there are [A->W] cores. That's what I use on my science vessels that run full aux, so that they get some weapons power. Otherwise, very nice list!
  • Sure, but it is not that bad. Compare a drain build with a particle generator build, say 300 flow caps versus 300 part gens. The deflectors we are talking about are jem hadar (30 flow caps at MK XIV) versus Solanae (40 part gens at MK XIV) versus KHG (flow caps and parts gens 20 each at MK XIV). If you take the KHG one,…
  • You can buy the boffs for EC from the exchange. Worth noting here is also the xindi-boff that comes with a nice costume (and can also be bought from exchange). Otherwise I agree with your recommendation. The torpedo from the silent enemy set is nice, too, for the 2-set bonus and the high CrtD + the disable. But since I am…
