this is just about everything I have been saying since the first announcement was made, this is basically a federation character with a slightly different back story and not a new faction at all, not even a half faction like the roms.
like the OP from reddit says at least with roms I felt that it was a faction in itself even though you have to choose fed or kdf to align with you could still fly rom ships, visit new rom and also visit the rom flotilla as well as interact with rom NPC's, you will have none of this with your ToS character.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
If they do like they did with Delta Recruits, where these new characters can earn account unlocks, then I'll make one and level up to 60, then delete. If they don't have the account unlock feature, I'll probably make one just to play the first 6 missions, then delete.
This really makes that $130 AOY pack look like quite a rip off doesn't it? Honestly though, I don't feel sorry for anyone that bought it, you would have to be nuts to lay down $130 before any information was even released. Overall though, this seems like it would be fun to do for 6 missions then delete.
I'm not all that excited for it personally. I don't get why it had to be a 'half faction' instead of just doing something similar to what they did during the well received Delta Recruiting event.

That's exactly what they're doing, they're just throwing a couple exclusive missions in there as well and calling it an expansion with a new faction.
well players begged and pleaded for a rerun of the delta recruit event, they also begged and pleaded for ToS content for the 50th anniversary.
I guess its like I always say, be carful what you wish for, you might just get it.

IF it is true that there are only 6 missions here is the part I don't understand:
How are 6 TOS missions a "faction"?
Better yet, how are 6 TOS missions an "expansion"?
I read in that thread someone said that the lead designer or someone said that the TOS faction would be as much of a faction as the Romulans. I'm pretty new and haven't played everything, but I looked and Romulans have a lot more than 6 missions for their faction. So how can someone say the TOS faction is as much of a faction as the Romulans and that be true?

I'm just really confused by all of this
basically their idea of what makes a faction and players idea of what makes a faction differs greatly, the only thing that worries me most as I said in another thread, as cryptic are under the impression that they have added a fourth faction will we ever get another proper faction like cardassians, borg or whatever.

I'm praying there is more to be added to this because so far it looks awesome, but the small amount of content makes me sad because of how good it all looks.
Wow this is really disappointing if it is true. I mean without the temporal recruit event there would be no point to create a TOS character with that kind of conclusion. This is not a new faction if that is how your story goes you are just a Fed with a different back story. If this is true I am glad I have not yet purchased the new ship pack. From a TOS immersion point of view I see no point to purchase any temporal ships as TOS immersion appears to get thrown out the window very quickly into their creation. I am hoping this is not the 100% truth and more information will appear in blogs to come. Fingers crossed as I really wanted to buy that ship pack.

To Cryptic, faction means it has a tutorial
To players, faction means it has a lengthy and unique experience all its own
Yeah, color me sad when my TOS toon got to the end of the last mission, only to find my TOS experience end after 6 missions. I was really enjoying the whole thing, and was really looking forward to more tie ins with TOS episodes.
I really had hoped there was more to the arc, or a second TOS story arc that just hadn't been put into the mission journal yet. I know there's a Temporal Agent Story Arc, but I bet I'll have to run everything else on my TOS toon to get there, including Delta Rising (which I actually did love, the FIRST TIME, not in any subsequent playthroughs). And I guess there might be something tied into the Recruit Event, but if it works like Delta Recruit, it will be "Go find the Temporal Device in missions X, Y, and Z," not more actual TOS style missions, which is what I was really enjoying.
Really am kinda upset about this, but mostly because the arc was over just as I was getting into the swing of things. I suppose that's actually high praise for the work I've seen do far. I want more!

It might not even be that. Depending on how the wording of two blogs is meant to be read, it could be less. It could be just TOS captains being recruits. Meaning that it would be less than 1/3 of what the original Delta Recruitment event was.
So where exactly is the content for this new expansion? The TOS characters get 1/5 the unique missions as the "half-faction" Romulans. And the Recruit could be 1/3 of what it was last time. We've had regular seasons with more content than this.
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
What actually bamboozles me is why and how did anyone expect anything else? Seriously, why on Earth did anyone expect a fully fledged TOS faction or even a half-arsed one such as the Romulan Republic?? It was always going to be like this - you get to have a small token TOS experience (although quite smaller then I'd expected going by the information availible so far) and then you join the 25-th century Federation.
I mean, let's face some reality here - the game is set in the 25-th century, it was bound for the TOS leveling experience to join up with the main Fed faction at a certain point. You didn't expect them to actually go on and continue developing a fully independent second Federation faction set in the TOS era, did you? Did you??? I'm not glad about how it's done since I do hate the temporal mumbo-jumbo, but given the time-frame discrepancy between the TOS era and current STO I guess it was the only way of doing it.
As for the AoY ship packs - I don't think this decreases their value to people in any way possible. It's still the same ships, it's still the same amount of ships and they'll still be fully usable in the game, so if you like 'em...
The people that like TOS, those ships and aesthetics will probably get the pack or some of the ships that are a part of it anyway and use them in the game from that point on in order to satisfy their flavor of the fandom, just as I for ex. love commanding my Galaxy Class, from a Galaxy Class bridge (although an old and wonky looking one) and TNG uniforms.
I swear, often it seems like people are reading different Cryptic blogs and announcements from the ones I read. *shrugs*
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"

Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

yall do realize there is a chance that yer jumping the gun right? They've been dropping 1-2 new episodes a week so far onto tribble AND the whole expansion doesn't drop until july after summer event... maybe wait for a little info or something more than chicken little screaming about pieces of falling sky?

Because the lead designer man(Mr. Gecko I believe?) actually told us that the TOS faction wouldbe as least as much of a faction as the Romulans. So why wouldn't people expect what he says to be true?

I would say there has to be more than 6 episodes. The problem is that most of the more might not be exclusive to the temporal recruits. What I would hope is that there's some additional tie-ins in those missions that treat the temporal recruit differently. And maybe some additional unique content for them in various places.
The 'expansion itself' might be normal size but the 23rd century part might be disappointingly small.

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
So. Guess who won't bother to create a TOS character at all. This b***h. Really, 6 missions? Are you sure there aren't more that just haven't been dropped yet? Or shall my hopes and dreams for something decent be crushed here.

From what I have read and understand the new missions they have been adding each week were already in the mission journal, you just couldn't play them yet. But the point is, they are simply "unlocking" the missions we can already see in the journal, not adding new missions to the journal. And by the end of this 6th mission, you are done in the TOS era and have gone into the future. That is the end of that storyline.

Well, that's a shame. I think we deserved more, especially for the 50th anniversary. At best, we'll just be getting some fancy ships, some of which have been long requested.
Because the lead designer man(Mr. Gecko I believe?) actually told us that the TOS faction wouldbe as least as much of a faction as the Romulans. So why wouldn't people expect what he says to be true?
because geko's been wrong or lied about many things in the past, so most players have learned to take anything he says with a BIG grain of salt
I don't know for how long have you been with us here, but when you've been here as long as me or @shadowfang240 here for ex., you become versed in a thing called - "Cryptic talk".
