I can't say I'll be upset if there's only 6 missions in the basic TOS faction story line. I think the reality people have to realize is that the entire thing is really just a bone to be thrown at a small but very vocal segment of STO's fanbase that has been begging for old school Trek stuff for years. With the main story line moving into the Temporal War arc, there's finally a sensible chance to throw that bone.

But a bone is all it is, and all it was ever going to be. I mean come on. We're on the edge of 50 years of Star Trek. On the one hand, alright 50 years and the franchise still lives. On the other, holy TRIBBLE this is scifi from the Golden Age, and like a lot of scifi from the Golden Age it kind of looks like TRIBBLE to anyone who didn't live through it (and talking about rose tinted glasses, TOS hasn't held up well with time and even when it was new maybe half the episodes were any good).

It would seem that because of the expansion is Agents of YESTERDAY, there's more than just 6 missions coming. Season 11 has been all about time travel and it would only make sense if our TOS characters as a Temporal Agent had to go back into time numerous times in order to preserve the timeline as much as possible. Chances are that the Klingon War arc that has us using the Guardian of Forever will have a deep impact along with the Spectres arc.

Welll, at first I wads like, Ok, you create a STTOS character, run the tutorial and then get thrown into the future somehow and end up doing the remaining forty missions with everyone else. Kind of like they did with the Rommies ya know?? But now I'm simply not so sure it'll be that simple, although the cynic in me says it will be..

that doesn't mean they can't go off on other temporal adventures to which the FED/ROM/KDF aren't invited. This really looks like character setup, not resolution.

With that I'm going to leave this here. It's support from a "reliable source" for what I've basically been saying the rest of the TOS faction is going to be like.

It's a lot of silly "well I can't say with any kind of specific language" (because otherwise that's PR spoiled and a developer pissed) but we're probably looking at a continuing arc set in other time periods where the player takes up the role as a temporal agent. And that's probably where the word "Agent" comes in for the name of the expansion.

Want more? Wait a few weeks, I'm sure there's going to be some blog posts. You're not going to get anything more official now, no matter how many times you stamp your feet. :p

You do realize this "realiable source" is some Blogger quoting himself on Reddit, who even refuses to play the already existing Missions on Tribble ...

is this just a pathetic way for them to get people to buy the TOS uniforms after the AOY toon goes to the 25th century. No you can't wear those clothes anymore cause they don't fit in but you can buy your old clothes back if you want to wear them.

Just for the record, this isn't true. I've tested on Tribble, and you do in fact get to keep all of your TOS uniform parts when you reach the 25th century. You don't lose access to them. There are small bits of mission dialogue that suggest you "should" change your uniform, but you don't have to (you just have to interact with the tailor once to advance the mission), and even if you do change, you still have the TOS parts available in the tailor. (Or I do, at any rate. And since Tribble on the C-Store is disabled, I doubt it's my C-Store unlock showing up.)

To be fair, "at one point" could mean literally anything, including "it was just something somebody threw out during a brainstorming session".

I hope we will be getting more TOS missions, but it doesn't seem likely at this point. :(

Yes for the 58432984th time we already know there are going to be more than 6 Missions (in the new Expansion "Quote") ... which is still not the issue ... did you read ANYTHING within this Thread ?

What we don't know is how much ? And if it's unique "TOS Content" ... official response ... "Can't go into detail" which basically translates to "No" ...

There is indeed a unique beam sequence. It doesn't quite work right yet, and strangely enough it doesn't tend to show up much at all until you get to the 25th century. But it's there.

Though they still haven't fixed it so that all your boffs beam down with the same beam effect (as opposed to just tying beam effects to each individual boff's faction). So your 25C Fed boffs and TOS Fed boffs have different beam effects. Lovely. >_<

Yeah, the more I think about this TOS faction, the more baffled I am as to just what the point of it is. Couldn't they have just let our existing characters go back in time and do (more) TOS content, instead of making this half-baked not-even-fraction?

Wait, the game tells me I have to change my uniform and FORCES me to visit a tailor?

That's it. That's the last straw! I'm done! First: No special Pakled feature mission. Second: No Playable BINARS! Third: No T6 Borg Cube ships. Fourth: No Cardassian Faction. This isn't how I would celebrate 50 years of Star Trek. This is blasphemy!

The ONLY way you'll get me back Cryptic ... is a brand new Deltan game, age restricted, in partnership with Brazzers. Least then the I won't be visiting the TAILOR that often!

I shall now demonstrate the 3rd principle of Temporal Aikido by waiting attentively, allowing the actual future to crush all your hopes and dreams. Why argue about it now -- with bad data, hearsay, and utterly delusional fantasizing being thrown into the ring -- when it'll be here soon enough to speak for itself?

Because the data isn't that bad, it is actually first-hand experience on Tribble, and that "delusional fantasizing" is more like rational conclusions.

Why go looking for enemies in a player who expects nothing more than the six episodes now on Test and the Pioneer + 4 ships shown in Temporal Special Agent bundle for the TOS "faction"? The Episode guide showed exactly how many mission the extended tutorial would include, and at the end of those six it dovetailed in the usual FED mission as was to be expected.

I look forward to learning more about the "Yesterday's War" episodes, but I don't think they normally put regular episodes up on the Test server. I'm also interested in any testing of the game mechanics for the Temporal Agent Specialization and Temporal Boff seating, but to be perfectly honest I've already read all of at least an early version and mostly wanting to see if there's been any evolution since then.

The stuff I really WANT, the things Cryptic is gonna get $200 or more from me on release day also hits in July. So I guess we're all waiting together :).

just to put you strait, you do not need access to the c-store on tribble to enable you to have access on tribble to any items you have purchased from the c-store on holodeck so if you purchased the ToS uniform unlock on holodeck and you then copy a character to tribble the unlock will be available to any other character on tribble that is allowed to access it in just the same as it is on holodeck.
this goes for any characters you create on tribble after you have copied a character from holodeck, if c-store items are an account unlock then it will work in just the same way as it would if you created a new character on holodeck.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

This is more than just a recruitment event. For new players, they'll get a character that will supply their future characters with account wide gear that may not be obtainable again. For the old, they get a chance to gain rewards that will go to help them down the road with future characters.

There's also the fact that there's plenty of stuff still coming down the pipeline. We've seen a Tutorial and 6 missions so far with the faction with as many as 6-8 weeks left before the expansion drops. LoR and Delta Rising were both put up in parts over the course of 2 months. Since we're dealing with time travel, what if our agent is able to travel back and forth between the TOS age and the current age doing the fed faction missions in between travels?

There's also a specialization coming, a new reputation, possibly a new battle or adventure zone, new queues, and faction more content for all factions that I'm sure is still to come. I really wish people can remain optimistic.

I said it before, and I'll say it again until someone proves me wrong...

They (cryptic) are doing the best that they (cryptic) can (are able to do).

It's physically, financially, managerially, culturally and organizationally impossible for Cryptic to do a better job on this, than they're already doing.

they don't have the ability to do better.

If this were even remotely true then there needs to be some serious firing and hiring going on. Or PWI just axe the studio. But since it isn't true, stop spewing drivel.

I am going to disagree because you need to weigh each of those categories against one another.
Physically = This is what the engine and servers and the low end users can manage.
Financially = Has to make a profit. (Hate to sound condescending there but that is what it always boils down to.)
Managerially = As set down by the parent/holding company for what they may do to be in line with their other products. (This might be the big stumbling block as, personally, the only other PWE games worth it are Champions and Neverwinter. Hmm I sense a pattern.)
Culturally = CBS/Hollywood oversight. (All the high end Connie threads shot down by CBS. Need to be in SAG or compliance to use actual actors for voice talent, etc.)
Organizationally = Not all your talent can do everything. See my signature quote for a great example.

Balancing this five legged table is tricky and sadly the only way to do better than they are already doing requires an injection of cash from a not profit seeking source. Example: Lottery winning STO player donates a million to hire ten people to do nothing but fix bugs. Or pay for voice acting, etc.
