They're only tossing this stuff at us to boost sales for another few months and bolster STO's flagging player base.. Lol, you should stop with drugged kool-aid and check you facts against reality, such a load of fail in your "comment".

Yeah... I was there for "Atari". Aside from Dstahl's attempts to inject new life into the game with the weekly FEs and the Foundry, there wasn't a lot going on during that time. STO had a huge content drought towards the end and the addition of a clunky ground combat revamp. That's it.
Admittedly, I hated f2p when it came out and still resent the lockboxes to a large degree (particularly that they locked away the best Klingon design they ever made behind a lockbox). That being said, there's a lot that STO has done over the past 5 years that have really, really made up for a lot. Since they cleaned up the level gate problem in DR along with all the stuff such as the Iconian War, the Romulan faction (I know some people hate it, but what can you do? I love it), the addition of some episodes to expand the Klingons (the first ones are amazing by any standard)./.. well, there's a lot of good in this game by now. Probably the only negative things that I have to say about it is that the Devs have seem to go back to their old standard of not communicating well and Trendy hasn't been as active as I appreciated her being last year, that and uhh... PvP is something that I'll never do as long as they haven't cleaned up their power creep specifically for PvP. That's about it. Otherwise, we are leaps and bounds beyond the problems of Atari.

But thats just it.. The Romulans I mean.. They were pitched as a new faction, and ended up as just another race to be divided up between the klings and the feds.. They have a nice planet, where any member of any faction can go. Unlike the fed starbase or quonos.. And the klingons?? Now theyre buddy buddy with the feds and practically a voting member ( oh wait, they ARE a voting member ) and theres still no content, no uniforms, no individuality no nothing..
One person said everything I said was fail. Time will tell.. I've been here, and I've watched my fleet go from 250 people to less than thirty. Even the fleet owner doesnt log on any more, and we're not the only fleet like that. Ask about a good fleet in any chat channel and you'll get the same answer. There arent any. Everyone is gone.. This expansion, with its six or ten little missionsd, its reboot of the original ESD, and its empty promises, with the ever burgeoning grab for more cash while giving less ( romulans still only have one bridge and no choices ), is pathetic..

Okay, your criticisms of current game problems aren't irrelevant, but it's that you tried to make things seem like they were better during the Atari days. That's simply not true.

I would agree though that the devs have at least appeared to be very arrogant about what should and shouldn't be in the game versus what at least some of the players expect.

That being said, there are uniform specific options for Klinks. I have at least two Klink characters at this point and the Bortas options are very nice. As for the Romulans, I don't know how people were expecting a third faction to work when you added in ques and pvp. Otherwise, I'm happy with how the Romulans turned out and aligning with either faction has its own quirks, faction benefits and RP purposes depending on how you feel. And yeah, any faction can visit New Romulus, but none of them but Romulan can visit the Romulan Command Center or the Romulan Fleet. Add to that how Romulans can double the amount of Doffs they can receive relative to the recruitment abilities of the other factions.

I don't think it's that some of your concerns aren't valid, but when you blow things out of proportion, claim that there were better days when really there weren't, and state things that aren't true like the uniforms with the Klinks, it's hard for people to take you seriously.

I understand that your fleetmates may have moved on. However, that's the course of things. I don't play the same game all the time. I get bored with games, go to play another game. I mean, the new Deus Ex will be out soon. There's a new ME coming out next year. If I start feeling a little jaded with STO, I have options and a best friend and I have taken a very serious interest in beer brewing. It's just a project but it's also a project that takes up time.

I was on the fence about buying the pack...Now that I know this (thanks for the forum posters) I will SAVE my money and take it somewhere else...BEST expansion EVER for sure.

How much is more than six? could be just "one" more or half ### mission. I'm not naive to believe in everything as was said by same people who stated in record about DR being the best ever when it launched.tiger-40.gif

The missions that are there are very nice. I'll give Cryptic that and when the refinements come through such as VOs etc, they'll be awesome. The biggest problem is a lack of communication as to whether that's all there is in store for TOS feds exclusively and whether or not the ship pack ships will play an RP role.

Well tbh ... I was on the fence with DR ... because it basically screwed up the whole game and it took ~1 year to recover / "fix" it ... AOY, on the other hand is basically just "meh" imho ... still better than nothing ... even if it's just 6 Missions ... having some fun in the TOS-Era ... sure why not ... it's not like I "have to" play TOS-Barbie, buying these Ship-Packs ...

PS : I had some remote hope, that AoY would turn out to be another LoR ... but "meh" ... probably not ...

i currently have four klingon characters i think.. Thats including a klingon fed character. Compared to the energy cryptic has poured into the federation, the klingons have gotten squat. I KNOW thats a subject for another thread so i'll leave it at that.
As for Cryptics incompetence? It speaks for itself..
Six missions?? This new expansion is nothing more than a money grab with as little energy as they can get away with, put into it.. Thanks for your hundred and fifty bucks. Now back to our main storyline which we havent done anything with in months..

if any Borg or Cardassian characters were using holographic skins that portrayed them as earthling star fleet officers who is going to know the difference,

That's cool and all, but it's still just stapling something you want onto the back of the TOS theme. There's no real thematic connection. Both of those ideas, a Collective mini-faction and a Cardassian mini-faction are fine ideas. With tons of support. But they need to be framed by content that is theirs. The TOS expansion isn't the right background for either of those. There is a lot of interest in both of those ideas. The devs are aware of it. And they may have something in store for one or both of those ideas. Give it time. Let it be the right way of doing it. Shoving it into 1960s Star Trek stories isn't really a good idea for Borg and Cardassians.

lifetime subscribers can create a liberated Borg character for the fed, kdf or romulan race they could create their liberated borg character to look like any of these...
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Liberated_Borg

there is also the Borg Science Bridge Officer that any player can unlock by completing the assimilated accolade in the “Khitomer in Stasis”
    he looks like this....
    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Borg_Science_Bridge_Officer_Candidate

at any time a player who has rolled a liberated borg could choose to play or replay the mission "Everything Old is New" he could choose to take his Borg Bridge Officer with him for this mission if he has one and not a word would be said.
in the mission "Everything Old is New" you meet Dr McCoy and a reasonably young one at that, to me this makes the mission on par with a ToS episode.
if you can get away with this with a liberated borg captain and borg boff a Cardasian is a synch.
you could also choose to play the time travel mission "Night of the Comet" and meet a reasonably young scotty and the same would apply.

given this I really cant see what your problem is.

see the thing that concerns me the most is cryptic is looking at this as the forth faction, we may never get any more factions in the game so no Borg faction, no Cardasian faction, no Breen faction, no Dominion faction or any other faction you care to hope for, as far as cryptic might be concerned we have our forth faction we all hoped for, is this what you hoped it would be.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Ah... so you're saying that it would be like Interior sets, bridges and Klingon ships. Cryptic either does poor designs (most Klink ships and bridges) or sets the interiors behind a 20 dollar price tag or time limited Pathfinder set that becomes irrelevant if you ever bought the Pathfinder any other time and then goes on record saying that these things don't sell so we're not doing it again.

I'm sure the developers are nice people and all. But sometimes, I feel like they ought to have to deal with the same level of TRIBBLE they put players through to have a better perspective.

I am saying what I am saying, I was not comparing it to anything else in the game, cryptic must be very aware that we have all been hoping for a forth faction and I'm pretty sure they are aware of what factions we were hoping for, this is about as far away from what players have been hoping for as you can get and as I believe this will be the last one all I can say is I for one am very disappointed.

    My problem is this:

You don't like AoY because you want a Borg and Cardassian faction.
So your idea to FIX this new expansion is to shove a Borg and a Cardassian faction into it.
Your square peg is ready to fit that round hole so much so that you're going to make the suggestion that people can take their rare BOFF reward into a Devidian story arc to prove your point!

That won't fix it for anyone but you.

Even a lot of people who like the idea of a borg faction and a cardassian faction would still have a facepalm moment when the Borg are all over the 23rd century.

Agents of Yesterday is about The Original Series. It's not about the Borg. Or the Cardassians. Why not just wait for a different time and a different expansion, one that suits those factions better?

Having said what I said earlier something did come to mind. Why model Checkov and Scottie in their uniforms from Star trek V on if we're not going to have more missions on later on?

    Just something to think of.

how is this fitting a square peg into a round hole, create a Borg or Cardassian faction with their own unique storyline maybe somewhat similar to the romulan faction where we choose a side at a certain point be it fed or kdf and play through the rest of the missions as they stand now, create a new storyline to follow on after the last storyline "Future Proof", a time travel storyline where we have a selection of missions based in the ToS era that all factions can play.
to me I can see no difference between this then playing the previous missions I mentioned "Everything Old is New" & "Night of the Comet" which as far as I can see are certainly based in the ToS era.
with time travel there is absolutely no reason why Borg or Cardassian could not be all over the 23rd century as I proved in my previous comment.
sure I would have liked a Cardassian faction but to be honest any faction would have been better then this even one I didn't particularly like, Borg for example.
BTW its only called Agents of Yesterday because it features the so called ToS faction, I am sure they could have come up with a totally different title if it featured a different new faction.

Yeah, the Atari years were great, weren't they? Stepping into the turbolift and falling through space... starting a Klingon at level 1, but not having any missions until level 20, and you have to just grind those first twenty levels out through PvP... "exploration" maps where the enemy spawned underground, able to kill you with impunity while you couldn't even target them... more "exploration" of stellar clusters that made Twenty Bear Asses seem like a short-term goal... ah, those were the days. hey?

You forgot about the little things like how you couldn't turn off the shield rings or the doors that didn't open in a Star Trek fashion. If you're ever feeling nostalgic, you can still run Patrol missions. I did recently so that I could use the same ship throughout some of the more important story arcs. I believe one of them, a particularly well written piece had my Feddie in Romulan space, their territory, wiping out Romulan fleets because they didn't want us building a transwarp hub. Hmm... wonder why that would be an issue for them?

Well no duh. "The Yesterday's War" arc was already announced an I kinda maybe sorta thought it was the all-faction mission content for Agents of Yesterday.

The six missions we can see now are the TOS intro and as has been said, it dumps those captains neatly into the regular Fed arcs at is conclusion.

When one hears certain... comments... and remembers what LoR shipped with - 3 "Exclusively Romulan" arcs in their "expanded tutorial / founding of Mol'Rihan", Tal'Shiar Venegeance, and Elachi arc and a 4th "all factions arc" - and then compares that to the tribble reports and blog inferences hinting that we're getting one TOS-exclusive "alternate tutorial / founding of 'temporal agent' status" arc and 3 newer "all factions" arcs - yeah, I can see why pitchforks and RPGs are being unlimbered and readied...

I don't. The announcement specified one multi-faction arc (the language is quite singular). I think that's generally a better assumption at this point (with the rest being piled into the TOS faction, before or after the tribble transition point) given that it is coming from an actual source (and no, the voices don't count. :p)
In addition to the ability to create a brand new Star Trek: The Original Series Starfleet captain, we will be introducing a new episode arc for players of every faction

how is this fitting a square peg into a round hole

    That's pretty easy ... THIS:
create a Borg or Cardassian faction with their own unique storyline

Is a great idea. That has nothing to do with the storyline of Agents of Yesterday.

I think it's a solid idea to havea Cardassian faction. I'm less of a fan of the Borg faction idea, but I understand its popularity. Those are both valid ideas. But you said it yourself ... with their own unique storyline.

That's what's needed to make it work.

Agents of Yesterday is the wrong platform for both of those ideas.

To make the cliche "internet analogy" ... it's like asking why ice cream is a bad pizza topping!

Since I'm spending all my time talking about Cardassians, time to get all Chain of Command on this thread:

Personally i don't care much if it's 6 missions or some more. What kills it for me is that we are supposed to blend into 25th century FED at the end. What's the point of playing a 23rd century character if they end up being just a normal 25th century FED guy?
Not even the 23rd ships are real (meaning 23rd century ships being upgraded to 25th century standards), they're just some future ships faking to be 23rd century (why should anyone do that, if they're supposed to blend in?).
(I know it's just a story thing, technically it doesn't make a difference)

I would have expected it to be like having access to a (small) 23rd century sector with a starbase, similar like ESD or Romulan command. Heck they could have simply reworked the Aenigma nebula anomaly into some kind of time nexus for the AoY faction, similar like the romulan command centre for ROM faction.
Maybe they work at it some more, adding more missions and other gadgets. As much as we know now, the general premise of having a 23rd based faction is realized in a very un original and un creative way.
"...'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied--chains us all irrevocably.' ... The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged. I fear that today--" - (TNG) Picard, quoting Judge Aaron Satie

Cryptic needs to just stop calling this an expansion pack; they're abusing the term. An expansion pack should be a full campaign, not an alternate tutorial with a ship pack. AOY is just season 12. And I'll lay even odds that after this season the fact your temporal agent is from TOS will never be referenced ever again and will absolutely never have any significance to the plot.

Have fun in your TOS fantasyland.

*IF* TOS missions stop with the 6, then yeah, this is more like a certain Wasteland Workshop "DLC" than an expansion. Hell Rise of the Hutt Cartel added more
