You mean when this system comes out it'll automatically, without my consent and against my will, alter the powers of my BOffs, just because I untrained a skill that they consider "rare" that I didn't need? What if what I replaced that power with is also rare?
Honestly not many of those powers look like they'll actually affect anything I have but we're still talking about a system release literally changing my BOff powers, as in you're taking what I have and replacing it with something I didn't want, and potentially doing so in a way that makes it difficult to undo.
This makes me kinda angry. You do not outright replace what I have with something else. This is no different than taking away a Defiant's Cmdr Tac and giving it a Cmdr Eng slot.
it wont alter your skills... when this goes live what skills you have is what they will have.
Fun part is they probably couldn't delay this to fix it even if they wanted to. New lockbox is coming out, which probably has special skill books in it, which means the new system MUST be in place by then whether it works or not. Monetized power creep is always priority #1 after all.
But mess with the basics , and you will get what you deserve ... , considering that if you roll out the system as is , over 90% of the playerbase will be ignorant of the downsides to it until it's too late .

You know I didn't even think about that you raise a very good point. With the new system they will be able to toss 'special' boff skills into boxes just like captain traits and everything else.

And so on ...
All in all I'm guessing some of these Boffs will become more rare on the exchange as this news spreads .
Also... what happens to the Captain Trainable skills? Will the ability to train BOs in those skills go away too?
Not sure about that but I'm hoping no while guessing ... yes ?
Great, another unfinished system being shoved out!
Cryptic - the masters of half-arsedness! With all the broken and half-arsed stuff currently existing in game they still keep shoving out and piling more and more new half-arsed systems. It's like a cavalcade of stupid around here.
Captain trainable skills are the crafting unlocks now...
Good news with that is you can buy/sell those on the exchange or use your account bank. No more trading directly with a charecter to train an Eng skill for a Tac Captains BO's, etc.
All that needs to be done is add these "rare" skills to the captain unlock system and they would be done and it would be simple and they would still require dilithium... oh well
So.... Why are we pushing out another unfinished system? finish it first.
-Rule of Acquisition #113: Always have sex with the boss.
-I am one of the many victims from the hijacked Caspian Division.
I will not let the childish acts of a criminal ruin this game for me.
-The actions of Cryptic, on the other hand......
it doesn't matter if I/we use it every.single.day. If I need to use it one day and its broken then the system has failed me.
My plan was to get rid of some of the dead weight on my crew since I have to several officers to man various configs but now I don't need all them any more. Problem is that I wont be able to train some of the skills so I am stuck till this is fixed
'We are also planning on releasing those Rare Abilities as Training Manuals in the future but we have not determined the method on it yet'.
i think this means they cant decide whether they will be made available via lockbox or r&d boxes.
That would probably do it. And at that point, no I won't care if someone wants my stuffz.
The number of officers I've retrained, in some cases at great effort and expense better not be changed by the new system. If they think the negative comments about the game were bad with DR, this is going to push it over the edge.
Lets assume for the moment they're not stupid enough to reset our boffs skills. This is likely a step in a process to make the system better for everyone. But from the tone of the posts, it's seems they have not even planned HOW to bring it back.
Rare Boff Abilities - When the system is released it will retrain any Rare Boff Abilities that a Boff had to begin with (so if a player accidentally untrained a rare ability, they will get it back on that Boff).
Wait, wut?! Revert existing boff abilities?! That is totally unacceptable!
Has it ever occured to you, Cryptic, that I replaced those abilities because I *chose* to?! Unaccidentally. Messing with existing boff abilities is an extreme no-no! I don't care what the boff had before, but when I have it trained, say, Aux2SIF 3, or EPtW3, I expect those abilities to stay!!
Adding 'any Rare Boff Abilities that a Boff had to begin with' to the list of abilities that boff has already learned, and may be trained in to, is one thing: auto-reverting abilities, however, spells disaster. And I, for one, will not put up with buying back abilities my boffs already got trained in!
It may very well be complete, just they don't want to publicly state yet that those are going to be C-store purchases now, or 0.2% chance drop from some lockbox in the future with new ones being added.
So say you want to train your BO in Overated Power III, you have to "craft" a manual, wait 1/2 hour for it to craft and then craft the actual manual you need.
This is no longer something you can just do on the fly

Unless I'm mistaken, it means you'll have two powers on that boff, the one he originally had and the one you trained.
If I'm wrong then their whole system fails at its intended goal. Which, sadly, wouldn't be the first time.

And yet I would still be saving time spent going to by starbase to train my boff from beam fire at will to cannon rapid fire each time I wanted to switch from a cruiser to an escort, and then back again.

You only have 1 set of boffs? o.O?

The intention of the new boff training system is a big improvement. 1 boff, multiple ability options is a great thing in my opinion.
But launching the system without a replacement for a process we've all used more than once? And to further that argument, launch it with no clear replacement plan?
But not to worry.

I'm sure this will launch without an issue, just like Delta Rising.

Let's see....looking at Cryptic's history....and the current 'theme' of monetization of in-game assets....that's exactly what's going to happen.
The PWE/Cryptic sweatshop...not where the game is made, but where the game is played!
Take back your home, end the grind!
Volunteer moderators policing the forums is like a mall cop trying to solve a murder.
will it then be reset to viral matrix 3? and noone can train syphon3 to that be then until its in the new system?!
That BO will still have Syphon 3. But you will never be able to retain him in Viral 3 as the system sits now. You will need to already have ANOTHER boff like right now with Viral or you won't be able to use it ever.
Then this system should not be released until it is finished. Doing something half-way and getting back to it at an unspecified future time is what causes a lot of the problems this game has. Shelf it.

I wish Cryptic actually handled critical bugs like this seriously before releasing a new feature. I don't get why they have to push out bugged content and then try to fix it on Holodeck afterwards (Like the new R&D system). I say try, because afterwards they spend about a month to a month and a half fixing mostly only new bugs and then they move to the next release. At that point, getting said bug fixed becomes next to impossible. The whole bug fixing process on Cryptic's side needs a LOT of improvement. It's a shame well known bugs from back in 2011 and 2012 still plague the game.
Examples:
1) Broken wrapper accolades from when fleet alert/SB incursion were released.
2) Gamma Orionis sector defense accolade, still broken. (Verified by frost in 2014, but somehow stuck in limbo)
3) Aceton Assimilator's drain has been broken now for a couple of years despite it being reported as soon as it got broken. (Verified by frost in 2014, but somehow stuck in limbo)
4) Voth 3 spires accolade broken because they probably decided on a design change that they originally planned in S9. They scrapped the Voth zone in the sphere and turned it into an Undine space BZ. The spire? Gone forever.
5) [Stl] mod on deflectors doesn't give the right bonus.
6) Ground R&D weapons still don't get the new mods as it was the only school that wasn't fixed on the patch months after the R&D system release.
It seems the new system will make that even more inaccessible.
There are still a handful of these on the Exchange for 50+ million EC. That doesn't seem so bad all things considered. From what I am told, they don't actually look like Hologram's. Maybe PWE could give them a make over in the future to better suit what they are supposed to be. Farewell, Photonic Science Officer!

But didn't the Dev say it would automagically revert to VM3?!
As for 'you will never be able to retain him in Viral 3 as the system sits now,' that all the more shows the system isn't ready yet. At the very least an allegedly improved boff training mechanism should retain a way to train those rare abilities. If not, don't release it 'as is 'yet. Period. Which they will do regardless, of course. Sigh.

The only current exeptions are specific BO's.
Example: Jem'Hadar BO, Photonic BO, Android BO, Xindi BO, etc.
Lucho and Meimei, this is really disheartening to me. They know it's broken. They flat out said so. But they are going to release it anyway.
What I don't get is someone coded the new skill books that the vendor has. Why could they not and why can't they now code these as well? The existing skills are a new item as skill books. It makes no sense.
Or... these will come in a lockbox like traits. That makes sense.

It doesn't revert to anything. You'll have both.
When the patch will hit, you'll have both the old skill the BOFF had before you trained him for the first time, AND the new one he had right before the revamp.
No replacement, both of them.
