I already have an issue. I wanted to trim my crew - get rid of the BOs I have on hand just to fill that one ensign slot on that one ship I rarely fly and replace a BO that better traits than the one I currently use

Problem is that I cant now since I cant train some of the Lt Cmdr and Cmdr skills anymore.

I am now stuck with my current crew until they get around to dealing with it

the very first quote of the OP is a dev basically laying that out.
what people are angry about is the realisation that after the patch some of these skills will no longer be trainable full stop.

I get it. You haven't any more of a clue than any of us, and I don't think you even understand what some of us are trying to say.

"When the system is released it will retrain any Rare Boff Abilities that a Boff had to begin with."

    First quote.

It doesn't say "it will allow you to choose" or "it will keep the original rare skill trained as a selectable option." Quote says "it will."

Example: I have GW3 & THY3 on rare boff x out of y alts to fill z to be able to adequately fly different types of ships. Some of these cost tens of millions on exchange/trade, and 160k fleet marks and 36,400 Dilithium each per single toon, plus at least 500 zen to unlock a total of 4 extra boff slots. Now, those boffs, according to "the very first quote of the OP is a dev basically laying that out," THY3 or pick your random rare ability "will retrain" (note, not re-tain, but re-TRAIN) causing a disruption in the overall choice of officers and officer abilities within limited seating capacities.

As I said before, I hope I am wrong, or the devs change their mind about this.

You know, I'm kind of curious if there is a limit to how many skills a BOFF can have with the new system? It may have already been mentioned and I missed it. I'm just curious because if not then it pretty much means all the money spent to increase BOFF slots is now a waste because you could just have 5 or 6 of them with every combination of powers you need for your different builds.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.

i suppose i had the benefit of seeing it on tribble, and could therefore extrapolate info from the dev comments.

Great, so on tribble there was no issue, appreciate the confirmation.

I can now also confirm on Live that everything's fine, and the old abilities remain unlocked and can be selected.

Very happy for this. Thank you devs!

Ya I was going to minimize my crew or at least focus on using the best of the best BO's trained in everything, but that can't happen right now...

Also I'm reading that.some people have BOFF's that are automatically being retrained in other skills??? That didn't show up in my testing, thats even worse...

As far as I know, no there isn't. On Tribble, I trained my 'First Officer' in all his career specific skills, plus all the Intelligence and Command Specialization skills.

However, you can't cross train an Engineering BO into Science skills, or Tactical skills.

initially i thought the same. then i realised i now had room to have a proper away team with great ground traits to compliment their skills. i can also hoard all the semi-useless event/FE boffs and the like.

I have to admit, I don't think it's ever been this bad. All my loadouts are screwed up, everywhere; and with all boffs unslotted by default (whose brilliant idea was that?!), and their abilities changed, it's a total mess figuring out even who goes where again. And yes, that's an issue with 56 boffs (max).

And, as I said before, NO boff abilites should have been automagically changed to begin with. If they originally came with special abilities, then those should have been passively added to their respective list of learned skills, and not passive-aggressively have been forced on your boffs, the way they did it now.

This sets loadouts back a year or so; and then some.

I think the unseating of the boffs was unavoidable with the new system.

I am lucky then. My Boffs are fine and the way I left them.
