This is for the new Bridge Officer training system. As it stands right now on Tribble, the "rare" skills that require sacrificing a BO to train another BO have no ability to be trained onto another BO at this time.
Here is an "approximate" list of said skills:
This is a heads up so if anyone wants to setup a Bridge Officer for a certain ship a certain way using these skills, they need to train said BO RIGHT NOW or loose the ability to do so! (Temporarily it seems, but who knows)
It seems to me than a few of us are mis-interpreting the original Quote..
What I read, is that ANY Doff you retrained their RARE skill will be reverted back to the original skills of the Doff prior to training; with NO method of retraining those rare skills 'cause the release isn't finished, and those "rare" skills R&D Handbooks will not be available..
With that said.
Does this "new and improved" Doff Training R&D; Command Skill Specialization COMPLETELY remove the ability for PLAYERS to train their Doffs based on Player Skill Point distribution ??
Does this mean, as a TAC, I will no longer be able to train the FAW III, TT III; HYT III; Attack Pattern; CRF etc ??

Wow...if that's true I think it will be the final slap in the face I need to quit this game.
put them on the zen store for 25 zen and let them be tradeable
It will be lockboxes like traits. Every 50 or so common doff packs you get, you will get a random manual for one of the other two classes besides yours. :P
Will we or will we not lose what we ALREADY HAVE on our BOFFs if we do nothing to them after launch?

cryptic needs to HALT this boff release, much as I might want it very much, until it is WHOLLY FUNCTIONAL.
No more half-assed ****, cryptic. You ADMIT it isn't working, and are forcing it out as fast as you can. WTF? STOP
STAAAAHP!!!
Fix it first then release it. I know this goes against your business model, but learn! Mistakes are repeating nonstop because you won't ever LEARN from them!
I'd agree if they could. Their overheads(which may or may not be PWE, I don't know enough about them to say for sure) give them the deadlines though - which is IMHO where the problem lies.

ummm no that is not what they posted... the special mission spec BOs will have their skills revert to the default while retaining all the new skills they currently have. this only applies to the special mission reward BOs. since their skills are pre-set.
all other BOs will have only have the skills they currently have.
no BO rare skills can be trained after this goes live.
No, don't blame overheads. It's poor project management at the top level if they knowingly admit they put out BROKEN TRIBBLE for a product every time. I'm not saying the product is always TRIBBLE, but these little "features" that are game breaking and reside in the game's code for years? they've been doing this for a long long time. It's not a recent behavioral pattern.

Yes, they could very well do better, but the reason for the release date itself is decided by the overheads.

Those "special" BO's will not "revert" anything, they just have free access to a rare ability they came with...
Like the Jemhadar and TS3. If you retrain it now for something else, when the update goes live, you can switch back to TS3. He will be the only BO that has TS3 I know of and will not have access to BO3 unless you train him in it RIGHT NOW which would be a good idea.

Putting a project out late is less of a stigma of dumping a half-assed update out because the guy that set the deadline didn't give the team enough time to pull it off.
Does Tovan Khev also have TS3? Romulan players may want to take another look at him if that's the case...

Agreed. Somebody's project management skills are lacking. Too much of this and devs who are sick of it are likely to walk. Not just customers. And that could really start an even more serious death spiral because the most talented will likely walk first.

Dude, you're trying to defend the release of something that is incomplete, unfinished, not ready yet. That's way dumber than all the forum rantings combined.
But by now we all know what you're here for given your replies that followed the post i quoted here. So back under the bridge now!
Where did I defend the move to release the revamped Boff retraining system whilst incomplete? All I've done is challenge people to stop and consider just how much of an impact it will have on their gameplay... Truth is, not much...
I've said from the start releasing it now was stupid, since certain abilities will not be trainable right away... However, the way certain people are carrying on, they're behaving as if the change a game-breaking bug when it's simply not... Hence, hysterical rantings...

If I remember correctly the Veteran Android Tac also has TS3, pretty certain I've used it for training in the past...
Riiight. Talk to me again when they sell you a car without an engine, and then wise-TRIBBLE you by saying technically your car is only 'incomplete.' It's broken because it has a missing part. Period. A vital part, btw. Good luck getting that EPtW3 trained.
No, the other way around: making the argument that the new boff training system isn't broken because technically Captain training is only missing, now THAT is grasping for straws if I ever saw it!
Add to this Cryptic's record of releasing stuff prematurely, then never ever getting around to finishing up on it any more, and I say: be afraid; be very afraid! To wit, how's that crafting with specific mods coming along?! You know, the kind they actually promised we would have (and which was supposed to be part of the revamped crafting system upon release). Another one of those merely 'incomplete' systems.
I rest my case.
I'm glad you do, as I have already addressed this exact incorrect analogy in another post... It didn't apply then, doesn't apply now...
Again, I challenge you to stop panicking and actually consider, genuinely and sincerely, just how much of a real impact this will have on STO...
I think the impact on newbies will be much more severe than "tenured" players and that's a concern when the newbies figure out they are locked out of many of these powers.

Thats going to be the real problem.
And a lot of these folks will soon be showing up in the forums trying to figure out whats going on...
All I've done is challenge people to stop and consider just how much of an impact it will have on their gameplay... Truth is, not much...
And you base your grand assumptions on what exactly ?
Ppl not buying new ships ?
Ppl never moving from one ship to another ?
See from my POV, you not only dismiss endgame players but potential new players as well, in a vain and thinly disguised attempt to make this about the complainers once again and to yell your little DOOOMMM .
... I don't know which is more sad, you thinking that everyone plays like you , or your sad inability to let ppl complain ...
Yes, they could very well do better, but the reason for the release date itself is decided by the overheads.
Without Cryptic showing any transparency, we have no way of knowing who's responsible for pushing out broken and half-finished stuff on the live server.

This should not be a problem.
Cryptic's tutorial on how to use the new BOFF training should detail the skills that are temporarily no longer available, and indicate that a solution is being worked on.
Hiding it here on the forums, where no one visits (as we are constantly reminded) is the lazy way out.
Putting it in game, in the UI, for players to see - would be taking ownership of the problem.
That said, I'm already bracing for questions from those who don't read the forums as to what is going on. Or better yet, may not even get questions, as people may not realize that the skills are MIA, but wonder why some people fly escorts with insane torpedo spreads and they cannot.

Cryptic lives up to its name.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Way to avoid the gist of my post, but if this is what caught your eye then in a nutshell , the answer is yes .
There were two types who yelled DOOOMMMM on these forums, the ones who did it in a lighthearted way and the ones who could not stand either differing opinions or complaints about issues that were not their own .
Your "hysterical rantings" line , describing some posters in this thread puts you in the latter group I'm afraid .
Too bad I guess that ppl kept their cool and didn't rise to your baiting .

I understand in an MMO nothing is every truly 'done'. But this is getting to the point of being silly when they don't even have the plan yet for how things will get finished post release.
Where's that crafting mod selection/replacement/etc? Still undecided I see.
How's that XP rebalance 'to remove the feeling of a bad choice' coming along? Oh, right.
And now this....
It would be different if Cryptic actually tweaked things on a regular basis. If they didn't wait months, or at times over a year, to finish things off and/or implement things and/or fix things they break when remaking a system (looking at you doff chains).
Release it when it's atleast as 'feature complete' as what we already have on live. Taking away boff ability options is not in anyway acceptable to me.
It Will Not Over Write Already Changed Boffs Will It? I Have Some That Have Been Retrained With Rare Bo Skills Replacing Rare Bo Skills.
The way I understand this, when the new system launches, your BO's will 'revert' back to the skills they originally came with, HOWEVER, if you trained a BO in a rare skill, it will remember that rare skill. You will then be able to swap out skills that the BO knows at any time, out of combat, depending on what you need.
Training a BO in a skill no longer replaces a skill, just adds to that BO's knowledge base.

And, yes, I have BO3. The Matha trait only affects Beam overload and High Yield torpedoes, so, either utilize it, or have no trait.
Any idea who that someone is? I'd like to throw some tomatos and eggs
Seriously, how can someone still support this "game"???
