    From the blog...

That says Mastery is a T6 ship thing.

That says the Starship Traits are unlocked from Mastery...which the previous said was a T6 thing.

That tells us that we can then use the Starship Traits, which are unlocked from the Starship Mastery system, which are part of the T6 ships...on non-T6 ships.

Which tells us, that even if we want to fly our "competitive" T5 ships...to get those traits, we'll still need T6 ships to do so.

Yes, I'm definitely hoping that a dev stops in to say that's wrong - it's not like that...but that's what the blog says...meh.

As the blog hints at, or the way I interpret it, all the Level 50 ships are going to be T5 type ships that you can get at level 50, including the Delta ships.

It's the usage of the ship that will make it "level" along with your Captain to 60, which would make your ship a T6.

So, if you're starting out Delta in a Bug ship @ 50, the more you fly in that ship, it's going to level along with you as you climb to 60. More Hull, more other stuff.

Maybe, just maybe, the Delta ships will have some slight exclusives such as an 11th console slot or some BOFF perk. But even those aren't going to get me out of my Wells.

That's not how I read it. It suggests that all ships, including the Deltas, will start at T5/L50 and you gotta work your ship up along with your Captain to L50/T6. At least IMO, that's the most logical way to settle this controversy with as little code-crunching as possible.

    It's how the blog starts...
With the increase of Star Trek Online's level cap from 50 to 60, we felt it was only natural to introduce a new tier of starships. In addition to the normal features you'd expect from a higher tier starship (hull hit points, an additional console slot, etc.), we are also adding several unique features to this tier of ships such as: an additional bridge officer ability slot, access to Specialist Bridge Officer seats, Starship Mastery, and a Starship Trait. However, these are only some of the unique aspects to these ships. So, without further ado, here is an explanation of what makes Tier 6 ships so special.

...the first paragraph tells you they are T6 ship things.

Im gonna stick with my fleet Excelsior no matter how fancy the new ships are. I love the classic look and the way it handles (Fleet Excelsior) and as long as when I upgrade it, it still has the ability to be just as good as the t6 ships then im happy. In other words i dont really care about the new "powers & stuff" as long as my ship still flys well.:P

I'm not really interested in flying one of those Tron-lookin' designs.

I would be interested in upgrading my tac Odyssey and my fleet Defiant to tier 6, though.

There are probably more T6 ships yet to be revealed, but so far this first batch feels...uninspired. I'd like to see more angles though.

sadly nether of those is likely to happen, at least not to true tier 6.

suck up and fly a tier 6 for the ship trait then say TRIBBLE it and go back to your favorites thats my plan. in less one of them really wow me. and that only likely for my fed. I like my mirror voquv and my hegh'ta.

hopeful some of the other tier 6 design will be nicer looking. thogh the kdf raptor isn't bad.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

We had the 7 number out of the STLV thing...we got "around a dozen" from the UGC#166 thing...probably end up somewhere between, eh? Or might just end up with the 7 with the rest coming out sometime up to the anniversary or beyond...

    Cause the blog mentions...
One of our goals with Tier 6 ships is to have the ability to introduce new game mechanics with some ships. We’d like to be able to offer new gameplay through new types of starships found in this tier. Some Tier 6 ships will be very much what you’re used to. You’ll see Cruisers, Battlecruisers, Escorts, Raptors, etc. However, you’ll also see new takes on these existing ship types like the {REDACTED} ships being introduced in Delta Rising!

    Cruiser
    Battle Cruiser
    Escort
    Raptor
    Etc...

    Something new...a new type.

They have discussed upgrading lockbox ships to T6. Either way, I'd imagine most people don't PvP.

At this point in time, only 2 members of Tactical Wing 1, 35th Fleet will be making the journey into the Delta Quadrant.

Captain Keval th'Zarath (USS Nehalem NCC-97131, Galaxy Class)

Captain Vorlann (USS Clatsop NCC-97146, Nova Class Refit)

Should additional reinforcments be needed, the Nehalem and Clatsop will be joined by

Commander Ryan Matthews (USS Contention NCC-149881, MACO Assault Carrier [Thunderchild])
    MACO 396th Support Battalion

It is my intent to depart these crews and their vessels as currently equipped, except for additional long-term assignment provisions as needed. No new ships will be assigned.

    Signed,

    Rear Admiral Cameron Carmichael
    Commanding Officer, 35th Fleet

(Basically, they will go as they are, in the ships they are in. If they get blown to pieces, I intend to list the ship as MIA, and their officers as Missing, presumed Dead.)

so there'll be no misconception...I'd prefer to use my current ship T6 rather than a new design.

I don't mind having to work for upgrades, I don't mind paying ZEN. Not even a lot of ZEN.

But I want my current ship to level with me. Not a new one. Please.

P.S. This is not about personal entitlement. Current information on this is very fragmented, and I wanted to have a clear discussion about this. So feel free to voice your disagreement. :-)

According to the blog though, we can't. That's the problem. The information is too fragmented, and I'd rather have the discussion for naught than ending up without our favorite ships only because we jumped in too late.

right now there isnt enough information about regarding t5 or t6 thing just yet, there is some information stating that there are tiers of upgrades over the levels in your grade, but nothing yet concrete exactly what ships will be taken to t6 and if there are any mechanics coming some point in the future when x2 is sorted, like a side project to give more t5 ships the chance to make it to t6 or whatever. will have to wait on the devs for that one.

I don't know what blog you read, but the one about T6 ships, talks strictly about T6 ships and has not even a sentence in it about how or if T5 ships can be upgraded to T6.

This is exactly the kind of "fear based on subjective interpretation"...you are just jumping to conclusions.

Either you do what virusdancer proposed, or you wait for a dev blog that actually talks about EXISTING T5 ships beyond lvl 50.

We don't have that information. The suggestion I offered is to Geko discussing the understanding of the concerns of players as well as the simple logistics of it all...they're not going to have 180some T6 boats ready to go with the launch of Delta Rising.

We don't know what's going to be done with regard to the T5 ships...even the T6 blog comes off as confusing when one considers the JHAS promo blog.

Looking at the schedule of blogs for this week...we might get more info on the T5 ships this week. That's a might...but with them releasing a new ship this week, well - if they expect anybody to buy it...they're going to have to have info about the T5 stuff, right?

D'Angelo mentions the new ship being released this week: http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/7001923-end-of-summer-celebration

Smirk's list of blogs for this week: http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/6008273-starfleet-operations-report

Under the Engineering section at the bottom, there's...

    Release of REDACTED
    Utopia Planitia Ship Report
    End of Summer Promo

That third one is the D'Angelo blog. The Release of REDACTED would be the ship. Which leaves that ship report blog...

...again, it's just a guess (a hope at this point) that blog might have some info on the T5 ships.

I understand liking your old ship.. but in the end there "old" I mean imagine if US navy captains said "no I do want new Aircraft carriers" and were still using old York town class carriers from WW2 and couldn't use jet aircraft.

The problem with STO one being a game and two being a beloved show that had very deep roots people will always be resistant to changes...

What Star Trek needs is a new show in this new timer period or tad bit in the future. This was it can legitimize the changes to the game.

There is only so much a older design can be retro fit to do before it become a 2nd line ship. Maybe they can remove the traits on the older ships but give them reinforced hull and console.

But what ever they do someone is not going to complain anyhow though.. /shrug

Actually they said you can farm "ship traits" and put them on any ship - which is how they plan to have you buy all t6 ships.

One ship trait per ship that you can upgride your real ship with.

They also said "of course" t6 will have better stats which is a 4 weeks late in-direct reply to the main concern across the forums of gear etc being obsolete.

To me personally it comes down to if t6 is temporary content like reptuation - if you play through it then go back to eSTF and earn dil business as usual.

Or if t6 will be the new difficulty standard for all content and you earn additional dil and so on playing it.

To me it's kind of based on that you will either be forced out of your ship or allowed to keep it.

At the same time t6 is sounding more and more pointless with zero new animations, all copy-paste passives sadly

Hrmm, pointless? I'm not - uh - seeing that. Cause, you know...that blog they just dropped out...

    Additional Console Slot
    Increased Hull 51-60
    Additional BOFF Ability Slot
    Specialist BOFFs
Starship Mastery (dependent on the class of ship)
Starship Traits (four slots, unlocked upon reaching level 5 in Starship Mastery on a ship)
    New Ship Types/Classes
    And More

...kind of points to folks wanting T6 ships.

And thus the reason folks are clamoring about their T5 ships being T6 ships.

i have a feeling they are going to redo most of the qued events and probably do away with the ones that are played the most. like the 3 fast and now easy borg stf's and leave us with the mission that are not played often, and some new ones

To quote a bit from the latest info:

"Tier 6 ships gain stat improvements that you would expect from a new tier of starship. These ships gain an additional console slot, an additional bridge officer ability slot, and a sizeable amount of additional hit points. A new feature of Tier 6 ships is that their hit points increase as the captain levels up.

Each time your captain gains a level beyond 50 (up to level 60) the starship’s hit points will increase. These ships are intended to grow with the captain. This feature allows Tier 6 starships to be available at level 50 without making them have more hit points than Tier 5 ships do at that level.

Example: At level 50 your Tier 6 starship might have 35,000 hit points, while at level 60 it will have 40,000."

All good and well, but the longer Geko postpones talking about T5 upgradability, the longer I'm beginning to fear they'll simply do nothing with it.
    vestereng wrote: »

Not to end of a note on doom and gloom, but this will probably be a pivotal point in STO gaming history for me. Should it, indeed, turn out all my existing lockbox ships are becoming obsolete (and yes, compared to the above stats for T6, they effectively would be, without some form of compensatory stats), then I think I'll just walk away.
