That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.
We all have to adapt sometimes. There are things I dont like, getting worked up is useless. Just adapt and get happy.
I prefer the dev's to work on bugs instead of things they need weeks for, where people could fix it for yourself in seconds (mute button). And let us not forget that one fix create at least 3 new bugs .
I actually think of the party thingies as working as intended... It's the dev who conceived the idea in the first place, who is a bug and should be eliminated.
Really... they could avoid these issues in the future with a setting: "Disable party items effects".
By not having this disabled pr default, people who have to enable them, and they would only work client-side anyways, so on neo or yours, my char would still be dancing, while there was no effect on my screen.
All they then had to do, was add a "partyItem" variable to things in the future... minimum efford, maximum gain, and we wouldn have to deal with these threads in the future.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...

I personally don't care for the party amplifier, IMO it doesn't fit the atmosphere of the game and I find it annoying that my character starts dancing.
Then again it is an mmo, so "party" items are to be expected and can be fun for social gatherings etc. I'm happy there is now an opt out, I still find the disco balls annoying, but whatever I can cope.
I understand people not liking the item, as stated I don't care for them myself, though some reactions to them seem a little extreme.
What I don't quite understand is the seeming love for this particular item. I can see it being an entertaining social item/novelty. But in this thread alone I've seen youtube vids, signatures, poems, ect for this one item. I mean I think the tr116 that is now available is pretty sweet, but I'm not going to make a youtube video about it. So I guess I'm wondering, for those of you who really like this item, what is it about it that is so appealing?
I'm quite familiar with the "because they like to troll" theory which has apparently already been discussed at length, so please don't reply with that. I guess conversely I am looking for something more substantial than "because they're awesome"
not said it yet but i want to thank cryptic for giving us Subspace Party Nullifier now no one but me can make my character dance and she only does the nerve tonic dance
I guess conversely I am looking for something more substantial than "because they're awesome"
Because they're fun.
Because they're colorful.
Because they make me grin.
Because they make me think about "Disco disco, good good!"
Because it's for once NOT about violence.

Having read this thread, I find myself wishing that there were 2 live shards rather than the 1. 1 for those who like a bit of fun etc, and don't feel violated by others having fun, and a 2nd for those who would prefer to take themselves and their on screen pixels far too seriously.
Not so I could avoid the party amps etc, no, so I could avoid the risk of possibly having fun in a way that isn't the correct way to have fun according to...
As to the nullifier, hmmm, spend GPL on sunglasses that take up no space, or on a "grumpy old guy" item that takes up a slot in my inventory permanently just so that my character doesn't start dancing when other players want some fun... Gotta be the shades.
Can't say I've ever felt trolled by party amps to be honest. If I find them too distracting, I just move out of the area of effect, it's so simple. I just don't have a need to spend more than about 45 seconds stood in one spot in a social zone unless I've popped to the kitchen/toilet/on the phone at which point I couldn't care less if my character decides to bust a groove.
Seriously, chill, it's just a game. It's not real, any of it. Shish.

This already exists, of sorts:
Tribble-> All fun and games.
Holodeck-> Boring actualy gameplay.

But, but but... it's so horrifying to have to dance... i feel so violated when I'm standing there, doing nothing and trolling people in Zone chat on ESD when along comes a troll and makes me dance... I cringe and have nightmares of dancing!!!!

Dude... everyone has nightmares from dancing... That dosen't make you special xD

Maybe you will get the point if I explain that I have NEVER owned or used a party amplifier or party popper, I just have no need for this kind of "fun".
However, I recognise that some people do derive enjoyment from these things, and recognise their right to do so. It's a GAME, you PLAY it to have FUN.
If you see it more as work, then you have a very different idea of what is enjoyable to me, and perhaps have made a mistake in playing a game, especially an MMORPG.
By the by, the you isn't you as in literally you, it's a you directed at those who see themselves in my description of somebody who plays games (when it isn't their actual job) for any purpose other than enjoying themselves, and who believes strongly that everybody on said game should only have "fun" in a manner approved of by themselves. A "Sheldon" personality one might say.
But then, I also enjoy listening to psychedelic trance, euphoric trance and hard house music (as well as Rock, etc etc etc..). lol
Again, chill, it's just a game, it's not real. It's no more real than a drawing of a rainbow spewing unicorn drawn by a 4 year old and attached to a fridge door. It's NOT really you dancing there, they're not really doing anything to YOU unless you actually become angered by it, ie. you actually troll yourself.
yes I can confirm these items exist and cost 100gpl.
when buying the item you are required to select how many to buy and that is odd as they are not consumed on use and they are bound to character so you cant send to alts or friends.
I also tested the item and found it does work to a fashion, it stops you dancing but you can still see others dancing and see the disco ball and lights and confetti falling.
it says in the description thet carrying them in your inventory will make you immune so you would think if you put them in your bank then you can join in the fun again but I found I had to totally discard mine for the effect to stop working, putting them in your bank made no difference as yet, this might be something the devs need to tweak as some players might want to have the effects of this from time to time without having to continually discard and buy new ones.
in case anyones wondering I will not be buying one for my characters on holodock.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Nope... I did'n... And I am entirely honest about the statement you quoted...
There is no better place to go to have limitless fun, try to break stuff, jump to places where you should be... That's what test servers are for...
That also gives the side effect of endless fun, as you can do ANYTHING over there, legally claiming that it's for fun - regardless if it is or not - since it's a testing server, and you are SUPPOSED to f-things up.

You honestly believe that trolls are incapable of destroying your incredibly fragile minds without the help of a disco ball?
That's adorable.
and your post is more adorable

Unfortunally, thats obvious... There are few things where I find the rolleyes emotes ok , however this is one of them...
It's really not.
