Ok. That was it. I'm done with the anniversary event.
First, it is leaked that the grand prize will be a grinding thing. I can't do that due to real life. I also missed the Breen ships, but I knew that in advance. So I was not complaining about that one. I was just simply looking forward to getting a fun, 9 console ship. I don't need a 10 console, my Ambassador from last year performs just fine.
But guess what? No Anniversary event ship for me. I don't have the time to grind. I want to come on every day, but I simply don't have the time. So I'll also miss out on the Dyson ships. As much as I want them, I won't get them.
This kinda infuriated me. I was gonna be happy with my good ship, instead of grinding for an excellent ship.
I thought that the free stuff giveaway was gonna save the anniversary for me. But ofcourse not. Instead of just logging on if I can to get the free thingy, no, Arc. I'm a Steam-STO user, due to making everything much more easier for communicating with my Steam friends, and due to my love of Steam. I will not install Arc unless the Steam Launcher dies. And even then, I will be complaining about it every day. Not due to Arc, but due to my love for Steam.
And now, the free stuff is lost for me due to my refusal to get Arc shoved down my throat. I am not about to go through the mess of getting rid of Arc after the event (I am not the best with software). So no free stuff for Rahm.
So what is left of the anniversary event for me? Free ship? No. Free stuff then? No. The minigames? Pfeh, I've got more fun stuff to do in this game. Yesterday I discovered Mirror grinding, which was fun. The minigames, I boycotted them last year, I'll proudly boycot them again this year.
All in all, the anniversary event has lost all attraction to me. So I am now officially boycotting the 2014 anniversary event. I'll play the mission, but not for the ship. I'll come online, but only for my fleet, to play with my friends the content we play outside of the event.
Now I am hoping I am not the only one that feels this way. Anniversary event is now just this.
Go to the "head" tab at the top rightish you should see a drop down menu from which you can select Uniform, Formal Wear, Off Duty or Armor (if you have any). That changes the some of the options for the rest of the tabs. Select Off Duty, there will now be an open shirt option in the Top drop down menu.
If you don't see Off Duty available, try a different costume slot.

When you're at the uniform tab (with all the options to change parts), there should be a drop-down box at the top right that says UNIFORM. You need to change that to OFF-DUTY.
I feel your pain, but i dont think theres any need to bandy the word 'boycott' about.
The thing about this sort of grind is that, I believe, it is self defeating.
Fewer people will get the ship this year than last, in all likelihood.
Not because people need to organise staying away, but because the grind itself will drive some away or be impossible for others.
Introducing the now looming pay-to-skip-cooldown tokens wont solve the problem, as its such a polarising idea.
Bearing in mind that we are working on a set of assumptions. While Branflakes has told us what is planned in broad strokes, we can't utterly rule out changes before roll out.
Nor do we know what, if any, mitigating factors have been built in.
For instance, we know one mini game is problematic, miniQ-people stealing rewards problematic.
But, maybe the other one will be awesome. Jet pack races around the Golden Gate bridge.
I'd play that.
Thing is, what we know so far is, basically, horrible.
But we can choose to be optimistic. doesn't mean we wont be disappointed, but I dont think we're at the doooom stage just yet.
I saw someone on chat who nicknamed it the 'grindiversary'. lol

The Khan uniform isn't the Monday giveaway, it's a special thing for Arc. Today's giveaway is a horta. You can claim that just fine--I use Steam and I got my hortas an hour ago.
Edit: If you really want the Khan uniform but don't trust Arc, consider installing Revo Uninstaller first. It monitors when things are installed and can do in-depth removal when you want to remove it. Doesn't work with everything, but might be worth a try.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was trying to make sense of the complaint to explain why he was wrong, but I did not understand that arc had a freebie, and could not make heads or tails of the rant.
How busy are you that you can't spare 15 minutes to run the repeatable mission that only take 2-5 minutes based on dev testing?
2-5 minutes in a quiet server?
It's going to take longer, once its rolled out.
There's an upper limit to instances, so academy will be packed, which creates competition for each set of boxes.
Of course, this assumes you're starting at the academy, ie doing nothing else with your toon. Because we'd have to factor in travel time, with multiple loading screens, from sector to earth to academy at least.
Then there's the perrenial who got here first thing, as players get miffed when they think someone stole their turn on the presents, leading to the same sort of behaviour we saw at the WW race. One guy who kept jumping their turn pmmed me to tell me they were only doing it because they'd been trying to start the race for 20 minutes, but people kept budging in.
So, yes. 2-5 minutes in theory.
It's not going to be that for everyone, every time.
Perhaps a fairer number would be 5-10 mnutes, erring on the lower end of the spectrum.
Well... guess it is what it is ... after just about 1100 posts. Bran's comments that they were taking our comments into consideration.. the latest Dev Blog + Gecko's PriortyOne podcast interview have no inkling of any changes at Cryptic.
So even if Bran took our concerns/recommendations (I do believe he took them to the Dev's/Power that be), in the end... absolutely no change. Which would be fine, if they came back here and explained that it wouldn't be changing and here's why... instead the perception is that they ignored this thread and any recommendations contained therein, and did what they wanted to anyway.
Let's boycott free ****! Who needs free ships, it's a horrible, mundane, roughly five minute grind! **** the police! DOOOOOM.
Get off your high horse. If you can't do 5 minutes of some possibly mundane task to get free ships, then what are you doing playing this game in the first place? You literally can't be too busy to log in for like 8 minutes to do the daily on one character.
I am sorry OP, but BranFlakes has already made it clear that the Grind is here to say... They aren't changing that.
Boycotting it wont help, but I sympathize... I understand that you want the ship, and I understand that you don't have the time, but they really don't give a rats rear about what people think... They decided on this, and they aren't going to change it... And not for the 5'th anniversary either.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
"I have to play the game to get in-game rewards, boohoo" is basically what you're saying.
Every mission you play in the game should trigger a little internal in-your-head Cost Benefit Analysis. Evaluate the utility (where fun is still utility) you get from playing it against the utility you get from playing other missions.
So after taking everything into consideration, Cryptic decided not only to keep the ship grind as it is, but require us to additionally replay the episode twice on every char, too.

The issue? I really do need a science ship for my Romulan Sci Captain that doesn't make me want to die every time I look at it.
Go into the HEAD option, you should notice a drop down in the corner that says UNIFORM...pull it dwn and select OFF-DUTY
If you don't see Off Duty available, try a different costume slot.

Something that doesn't require you to race every other tool in the zone to get there first?

When you get 250K you get 1 Qmendation for the ship, you only need 999 more.

The entitlement is strong in the original poster.

Nope.... BranFlakes did some pretty nice dancing around the topic, but it was clear that they wasn't even going to consider that people don't want it.
We ARE stuck with it...
