Well, let's consider something for a moment. If they gave away some mega-pimped new supership, which those scistroyers are supposed to be, for just completing a mission, they might hurt their sales on other ships. By adding a grind, they make sure that not everyone will get the ships or at least not on all their alts too.
But generally, I agree that this doesn't feel very festive to me......
agreed, it would hurt the sales on other ships.. which is why in the past, its always been a dumbed down version.. (which at least showed cryptic was throwing us a bone..).. I have no problem with the teaser ship for free, and then the improved version on the c store or in the fleet, but.. not a grind to get it.
The previous anniversary missions gave the ship as a reward, same with Sphere of Influence.
Why change this Cryptic? Was Tim Russ that expensive?
I hope they reconsider this, and give the ships as mission rewards, instead of another useless grind...
Talk about sucking the fun out of everything with the stupid grinds Cryptic...
^^^^I'm already there I just finished with getting that Breen ship, now they want me to grind AGAIN! This is worse than the Grind for the Rommulan Rep system!
The idea is, that the anniversary event recognises a simple truth.
The game is another year older, and that is an achievement shared by both the devs and the players.
In previous years, this principle was amply served by the single FE, get a nine console ship system.
Cryptic got to monetarise the work they'd done on the ship later by offering a fleet or C-store variant.
It worked. Cryptic got a fair return and the anniversary event retained its unique flavour as a grindless simple celebration.
And now this............with the added bonus of pay-for-less-cd-with-zen.
This feels like Cryptic monetarising the celebration.
Poor form. You don't charge people to come to a party, especially if its to celebrate their efforts as well as yours.
No doubt. It's like offering us a "free" urine-soaked cake that we have to work for and then offer to sell us a urine-free cake. They're giving us something that sucks to encourage us to spend money so that it doesn't suck. Clearly, they do not understand the concept of value-added services. The game should stand on it's own in terms of entertainment value without the C-store and the C-store adds premium services. Using bad game design to coerce players to spend money to compensate is really disdainful to their customer base.
Go here and show your support for a better Foundry!
I can't see why anyone was expecting anything else really.
A horta, on day one of a three day giveaway, actually isn't a bad idea.
It's cross faction and, obviously, a ground item.
Given there has been a welcome refocus on ground I don;t see it as a bad thing at all.
And, remember folks, the subject of this thread isn't really anything to do with the giveaway.
Two seperate issues.
oh I wasn't.. I bet the ship will be another t2 or 3 ship like the akira variant or something.. I fully expected it to be trash that was being given away.. and honestly, I wouldn't expect them to give away anything like ship bundles.. cause in all fairness, they do have to make money.. but yeah.. im interested to see what other awesome giveaways we see.. and I already had this one.. im interested to see if I have everything they put out again. lol..)

Well they have designed new ships, so it is time to get those old stuff that have been in the basement for a while and put them in a garage sale.

I'll be honest, despite having spent a reasonable amount of money in the cstore, I got 100% lucky last time and i didn't have this horta either.
And, even if I did, its all good. I figure my odds of getting through to the end of this giveaway without finding Ive already bought one of the gifts is low....lol
This is the Jekyll and Hyde nature of Cryptic recently.
Giveaways, like this, are Doctor Jekyll.
Grinding for the anniversary and the execrable idea of paying zen to reduce cool downs are Mr Hyde.
We know what we want, and frankly, we're not asking the Earth - less bugs, less grinds (that's less grinds, not smaller grinds. Less, period), more new and innovative content. LoR and S8 were good starts but recently, it's starting to feel like we're going backwards rather than forwards.
Actually, yes, yes, you are. You want a bunch of new stuff that you have no reason to play more than once.... Not gonna happen.
Actually, yes, yes, you are. You want a bunch of new stuff that you have no reason to play more than once.... Not gonna happen.
I don't see why that's unreasonable. Most developers can manage to make stuff that you don't have to play repeatedly, yet I have done because it was enjoyable.
Geko has said in the Priority One interview that the anniversary ships will in fact have only 9 consoles BECAUSE of the secondary deflector, 4th weapon slot and two commander boff slots. He also justified the grind by saing that we'll also be getting two item set pieces, with the third being a reward from a new FE, and the fourth coming later on...
I honestly don't get it and if I were to assume anything I would say he's hiding something. Removing the 10th console slot cannot be compensated with the secondary deflector, as this mechanic is supposedly being added to ALL science ships in the future - so that goes to 10 console ships as well.
The 4th set piece also made me wonder if there isn't a "better" variant of the dyson sci destroyer planned for the future.
Generally he calls the Dyson ships "FREE" yet a moment later he compares them to the ships from previous events or their paid variants (so Breen and Risian Ships, C-Store Odyssey, Fleet Ambassador, Lobi Obelisk). Weird...

I bet you the fourth piece is part of a Lobi Store "Advanced Dyson Science Destroyer" pack.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
Poor form. You don't charge people to come to a party, especially if its to celebrate their efforts as well as yours.
Actually, some parties you do. Not that too many people aside from the hardcore target audience want to go to a fundraising frat kegger, but such parties do exist and some people will pay for the privilege of such mediocrity.
I was assuming that at the rate we're going, there won't be a 2015 Anniversary.
Sure there will. And its "prize" will be a ship + 3-piece space set, all in lockboxes. The "gift" will be 2 free Master Keys, so that getting (if you're really lucky) half the possible goodies will then goad you to pay/grind for enough keys to get the rest.
weather geko (who I don't think is all there seeing as though he doesn't think there is anything wrong ever.. lol) says he think they are worth the grind or not isn't the point..
the point is, the anniversary event has always had a great mission with a freebie at the end.. it was, (and I always took it as) a thank you, here, were not gonna make you grind or pay for this, just enjoy an awesome mission (once) and boom, you get a little something extra..
this ship can be the be all end all ship, I don't care.. its the idea of the situation.. if this ship isn't worthy for a totally free, no strings attached give away, then put it on the shelf, take it out and make us grind it or buy it during, say the first contact event..
its not like the 4th anniversary snuck up on them, or was an unforeseen event.. they should have had something to the caliber they feel is "free" in the works and ready to come out..
for me, its not about the ship, its about the message.. and the message lately has been one of them just not caring anymore..
shame on cryptic and their continued race to pull the wool over our eyes.. just call it what it is, apologize, make some changes, and move one.. stop trying to recover the situation.. in doing so, your just gonna TRIBBLE the community off more.. (well parts of the community) which you can ill afford at this juncture..
another good note about trion (rift) is they constantly come out and say, hey, our bad, we broke that, we messed that up, etc.. they always stand up and take the blame where it is due.. I respect that, and that is why I have been spending more of my money there, than here...
hopefully they release a blog about the ships today i need dat info's
Geko compared the stats to the Vesta. He said that within the in-game classification the Science Destroyers actually ARE Multi-Mission Science Vessels.
At this point, it's going to come down to the actual stats for the ships and how much of a pain those mini-games are going to be. From the descriptions, it'll be one of the "catch a mini-Q" games. Which I am not a big fan of.
Couldn't it have been a trivia game, or a puzzle? Something with a little more "Trek" appeal?
If "five minutes" turns into ten or more because players are competing to chase down interacts, I'm going to be way less interested.
It could put me in the bad position of having to compete with my own sons to complete a mini-game. That would be frustrating for all of us.
Yes, I will do the episode. That much is a no-brainer. Will I grind for the ships? If it's really frustrating to complete the mini-games, with players racing each other to 'steal' interacts, I doubt it. Very likely will not try to complete this on more than three characters if at all. I've got lots of other ships to play with, and other ships I want to get, no matter how cool this one is.
My lobi is marked for stuff in the lobi store that I want and can't get any other way. I will not be spending lobi on "Qmendations".
My views may not represent those of Cryptic Studios or Perfect World Entertainment. You can file a "forums and website" support ticket here Link: How to PM - Twitter @STOMod_Bluegeek
So now getting the ship is the FE and 15 day grind well i won't be able to get the ship since for the next month or so i can only get on at the weekends Just hope they'll have something similar as the dyson rep for weekend players to get the qmendation if not then its was one step forward then two steps back if that's the case thanks for the non anniversary ships.

Relax. Unless you're paying Lobi for it, you've got plenty of time before you get the ship to ponder over the stats.
Besides, I imagine today's blog - if there even is one - will be about Tim Russ' voice work.
