You can add me to the list of people having this problem, though I only got this twice and restarting the game fixed it for several days.
The first time was just weapons going white, but the second had whole ships, players, background in "NPC-talking" windows going white and NPC textures not loading properly in their windows and switching maps didn't change anything.
Could it have something to do with the "material files reloaded" message appearing at each map changes?
I have postprocessing enabled, and it doesn't help me with this. I know that's for a different issue, but I wanted to make sure anyway.
Specs are as follows:
OS: Windows XP Professional 32-bit (SP3)
CPU: AMD (Quad-core) Phenom II ~3.4GHz
GPU: ATI Radeon HC 4800 Series (1GB Mem)
RAM: 3.5GB (due to limitations of 32-bit OS)
Direct X: 9.0c
I play in windowed mode.
I can replicate this issue basically by playing the game for a long period of time (over 40 minutes). It always happens without fail -- I have never had an instance of it not happening since the launch of Season 8, when the problem first began.
It seems to affect all, or at least most, maps. It tends to strike when I'm sitting idle for a while, tabbed out, and then go back to the game to play a bit later. This isn't always the case, though. Sometimes it just goes from fine to bad when I'm playing the entire time.
Hope that helps. I'd love to see these issues resolved -- or even just acknowledged.
Let's see.....half grey Sphere....got that.
Star field goes supernova burning eyes....got that.
Aliens walking around with no legs or feet, feet and legs walking around without bodies...got that.
Sections that must have hit a sale on white paint ...got that.( Seriously, don't paint clothing!!)
Points where it looks like someone is tripping out on LSD...got that.
Naked runners...got that.
Have only been playing 2 months. Been locked out twice and now all of these wonderful visionary experiences. For me, STO is about as much fun as sitting on a cactus.
Been having probs since season 8 went live. I never thought to even check the forums here I thought it was my vid card. Ive even gone as far as a OS re-install with up to date drivers everything I could think of yet after playing STO for about 20 mins to a half hr everything goes crazy.
After reading this post and not seeing any response from a dev is kind of discouraging. However checking the patch notes and stuff I see they are trying to work out the bugs, altho nothing has helped yet.
Oh well 20 mins was all it took - albeit with a fair degree of map changes for testing purposes (half a sector tour + sphere). The patch notes indicated that we weren't due for a fix, but I was hoping the announcement for the separate graphical stuttering/smearing bug, would have at least helped with general graphics stability. Here's to next Thursday.
My growing rough collation of related threads / affected users, started in a single post and has already been split once. They now need to be split once more, so to avoid excessive scrolling, on host pages where they hog the screen real estate!
Since I'm pretty new to the STO world, I must admit to not being that t'eed off by it. But that is changing pretty rapidly. It sort of pushes all those 'end of sto' people and even those that don't criticize constructively into a more sensible light. With as many different video cards being affected by this, it's certainly a Cryptic problem.
And the fact that it's not even been addressed interprets itself to: Yeah we have no clue what the problem is, PWE is forcing us to save face, so we stay silent.
You are hanging with your pants pulled down over your good done debbies and that's bad for business.:D

No replays, no acknowledgment, I think the devs don't have a clue what they broke with season 8.
Got a feeling this could be an issue that never gets resolved. Shame I've gone from 2-3 hours a day most days to 30 minutes play time.....and my spare gaming cash has gone elsewhere.

Can anyone here who's been encountering this issue, please try turning off On Demand Patching, and seeing if that fixes anything? (Or has that already been suggested/debunked?)
The special announcement said to turn on post processing, that did not work.
Patch notes said "Resolved a graphics issue which was causing some players to see distorted images and backgrounds." That did not work
Have not tried on demand disable yet
This happens everywhere. Even at the character selection screen Not bad enough for me to quit, usually simply changing instances fixes it or changing character.
Sometimes they will load slow, but then it will be fine, sometimes I get what you see below.

Hey thanks for popping in Taco.
I've had On Demand Patching off this entire time. Turned it off a long time ago since it made my loading screens longer. I could try turning it on and see if that does anything though.

Went and turned it on to see what that would do. I still got the missing textures after a while, but they didn't happen until after an hour and a half instead of the usual 20-40 mins. However there was a patch this morning so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I'll turn it back off and see if it goes back to 20-40 mins tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply at least we know the devs are aware of the problem
Day before the season 8 patch I was playing fine, after the patch these problems started.
Played with On Demand Patching both on and off, made no difference.
I find that if my toon stays in one zone, ie the sphere space I get very few texture curuptions usually start after a hour, switch to another map/area these grow explanationally.
Playing switch maps often, ie kerrat, then K7, then a few of the dailys in that sector and it's usually 30 minutes tops before the game becomes unplayable with texture curuptions.
It seems textures aren't loading correctly when switching maps, with one error it's seems to increase the error on the next map switch, my two cents.
Things I've tried, all three dx options, low, high quality graphics, running the program as admin, turn off firewall and anti virus ( not for long though), full reinstall, running windowed and full screen, pretty much everything I can at my end.
I can't see this as being anything but either a routing error or server error......let's hope there's some light at the end of this tunnel.

Well, patch didnt fix it, still get snow-blind, plus cryptic wanted to be dicks and give me afk penalty during mirror cause i got up to pee but thats another topic.
I stopped playing for a month and come back to find this mess, why cryptic hasnt lost its player base is beyond me.
Went and turned it on to see what that would do. I still got the missing textures after a while, but they didn't happen until after an hour and a half instead of the usual 20-40 mins. Turned it back off and it's back to the 20-40 mins. I'm not convinced that On Demand Patching had anything to do with the delay I experienced yesterday. I mean it's possible, but I don't know enough about this stuff to say one way or the other. I might have just gotten lucky or something, who knows. But regardless of whether it's on or off, I still get the degrading graphics after a while.
Last thing I told do at my end. Deleted install then install through steam, went well, then started to get missing textures etc etc. This as I see can't be a user problem, one thing I did notice was that the patch bar and % bar didn't appear when the texture problems started. Usually get his at each map change before.
Any ideas devs what going on with this bug?

I'm always having to do Safe Mode to get passed the Star Trek logo. Images are clear until after Cryptic logo. Video settings is stuck on Half Resolution and unable to click it off. My graphics is NVIDIA.
Following images are what it looks like before tweaking Video settings. After saving settings adjusted, it won't stay. Have to keep doing this every time it starts. I end up with blur &jagged edge graphics still. http://i.imgur.com/Cm800jd.png http://i.imgur.com/b54yvkM.png
I am also experiencing these exact same problems, there is no possible way this is a latency issue, this is a purely graphical problem.
Cryptic/PWE please fix this and immediately...its a game breaker, no one wants to shut down the game and restart it just to get an uncertain amount of play time as another poster on this topic had said.
I link these because they are the same issue im having, only I am also getting a graphical load error when flying around where glowy effects are super bright like someone gave crack to the Bloom Effect.
Warning : beware of the new eng orbital strike trait it can cause a epilepsy stroke !
I have the same graphic problem too. There are so many bright people, wearing bright outfits, driving bright starships, playing in Picasso made battlezones. I'm not Reman but is too bright and my eyes can't endure it too. Dont know if the Devidians flooded cryptic servers with trolic radiation and trying to drain every employees bio-neural energy what could only explain the recent increase of bugs.
Anyway THEY ARE COMING !!!
So I've found a temporary solution, don't know if it will help you all but I hope it will. I entered the Sphere and the bug hit, at that point I started thinking what video options could 'force' a reset in graphics. I tried going window max'd to fullscreen, turning antialiasing on (used to have it on but combat in the Sphere turns it into a slideshow), I then turned Screen Space Ambient Occlusion on and it sorted the white textures out, so then I turned it off again and no white bits, so I guess I'll do that rather than relog from now on, I'll let you know if that fails to work. Hoping for a fix soon though, hope that helps people!

Interesting. I usually play all my games with ambient occlusion off since it has a serious performance impact on my old rig. I'll have to turn it on for a bit and see how it goes.
