You seem to believe that it just needs a dev to snap his fingers to get these problems solved...

Would be cool if it were that easy.
Some say they never experienced such issues in other online games. I say they were lucky - just as a few million STO players out there who never saw any problem rising with The Sphere (besides the problems that come with omega particles and Voth farming them... ).
Even in WoW you might every once in a while pull the short straw and run into similar issues.
Every program that is dedicated to run on a lot of different computers suffers such problems - just think of Windows... Ever seen a Windows that didn't need a lot of patches to run smooth and secure? (Besides those that came out in the pre-internet phase, perhaps.)

Besides, what Graphics Card do you use?

Did you see that yellow text on top of the page? Could be helping, too. ;)

In the times I was able to play, I had to run the game on the second lowest settings - which was below the recommended settings, btw - and still had to suffer tearings, glitches and stuff after some time of playing. But that was because of my GC, as it is about ten years old, now...

Actually, due to my system...I have to run it on the lowest settings with trouble shooting and to get the FPS up...I have to turn off the UI Hud for both Space and Ground Combat to make it smoother.

So yeah, lucky some people can get them new computers and get into the game...I can't even get in to do the above and I get 18897741...nor do I have the financial mobility to buy something new. :(

EDIT: Also, MMORPG.com is giving away Wrath of Khan uniforms. Don't think that you can't play you can not go get it if you do not have it. Limited number of Keys left.

    That's just my number.

I think you know what that means.

It is right that I have a new machine sitting in one corner of my room, eagerly waiting to be put on duty.
It took me about a year to get that machine together - saving money, buying some part, just to continue saving money again for the next piece. Belive me, putting that money aside cut a deep hole in my purse. I just got everything together shortly before the launch of The Sphere.
But as long as I'm unable to find that copy of Win7, it'll have to be as patient as I.

You may post bets what comes earlier - a fix for 18897741, or me finding that disc. ;)

(Still, it could happen that I'd be unable to access the game - as far as I know, not only old computers are affected by this error.)

I'm still entering an emdless "not responding" upon the game trying to access the character select screen. All of my drivers are up-to-date. so I'm wondering if I should just uninstall the game and then reinstall it.

Does anyone think that uninstalling and reinstalling the game will fix anything?

    Just got home from work..

No, uninstalling and re-installing won't work.. The dev team must fix it and a patch is your only way..

I've uninstalled, reinstalled, wiped my entire drive and formatted and reinstalled Windows to ensure a clean install.. The patch was the only thing to fix it.. Don't waste your time..

Not expecting them to snap their fingers, what I am expecting, just like everyone else that is STILL HAVING THIS ISSUE and others that JUST NOW have......DO THE JOB THEY ARE GETTING PAID TO DO!!!!

Granted, I am not paying to play, but others are and are starting to pull the plug. This has been 2 weeks for me and still having a game crash is not my idea of a good game, nor is it fun.

I should not have to go through all that just to end up having the game STILL not be playable. Graphics look like TRIBBLE = Game is still not playable. Having to change all the settings to make a game play like ****, is just like having a car but you have push it instead of drivve it. WHAT IS THE POINT? If the issues would just get resolved, there wouldn't be anyone "petting their frustrations" in the first place.
Well, the point is that it gets your car out of the parking lot before it gets impounded. You want your Tribble or not? Honestly, I discovered this like 3 hours into this problem, but like you said, it was such a non-solution I hadn't thought it worth mentioning until it became absolutely clear Craptic wasn't gonna actually fix this.

Mark of the beast? You mean that one from Hell's Kitchen 666?

You sound like you don't believe me. As well as the others who are still saying they haven't gotten in. If so, it's your loss.

That software renderer really fixed the 18897741 error. Or rather bypasses whatever bad graphics code Cryptic was using.

After the initial slow loading, once in game the software renderer is actually faster(!) than the normal huge lag I was getting before. The scalable graphics isn't as sharp as before, but the popup windows like doffing is just as sharp. I could possibly use the software renderer on a permanent basis.

I didn't need to change the RenderScaleX Y, I left it on 0.5 and it still runs faster than normal before. :D
If it is lowered, the program really flies fast but the scaled graphics is fuzzy.

What happens here, isn't anywhere near of my definition of fun.

Still, the devs are doing the job they are paid for.
And some more, like banging their heads on the desk and shouting (or, more likely,a fter all this time, whimpering): "Why the *beep* does this friggin' piece of code still not do what it is intended to?"
I wonder how often they had to replace smashed keyboards or mouses that were thrown around in frustration.

Some may say, "Why not put some more people onto this job?" Well, simply because this issue needs specialists. And as there's a limited amount of them... (No, you can't just hire some specialists to help out, as they are not familiar with the code. Introducing them to it would take too much time and bind some devs who could be working on the problem, instead.)

Ah, that's what you're talking about...

Ever thought this might be a good hint for the devs to find a solution?

Haven't tried it yet, as I was too busy posting here... ;)

And I first have to fetch me some packer that can handle .rar files...

    Okay... trying this... now.
Getting to the LoR screen - that's a progress...

Besides, never got that message about my old drivers before... Is it part of that swiftshader?

    Thank you so much doffingcomrade!!!

I used WinRAR to extract the file. The dll needs to be put in the \Star Trek Online\Live directory. (I deleted the \cache\shaderCache.hogg rdrShaderCache.hogg files just in case.)
You can see that the software dll is running by the Swift Shader logo on the loading screen.
At the 75% loading point, instead of crashing to the dreaded 18897741 error, it goes to the Legends of Romulus logo. Then had to wait a long time without clicking on anything.
I was able to claim the Solanae tribble! :D

    Miracles do happen LOL

Trying this now will let you know if it works.

Hey, captainwh0, I'm still here. RL kept me busy, though.

I'm not really surprised to see people fading away... quite a few can get back into the game, others are too busy petting their frustration...

Well, I wonder what they'd be like if they were in my situation...
I'm sitting here, working with my old computer - that suffered some kind of "acidy" graphic problems before the patch, due to overheating of the GC - while there is a brand new machine sitting in one corner of my room, ready for duty. Still, I can't use it, as I'd need my copy of Win7 to get it running. Said copy is MIA, been combing through the house with a very fine comb - still didn't find it.
All the other games I could play as well online as offline, suffer from crashes due to the old age of my computer, so all that's left for me is my patience.

On a side note... my @handle ingame is the same as my username here... Chris (see below) is one of my many chars, but not my main char, as I don't really have a main.

if your overheating, it may be your heatsink, easy fix, you just need some thermal paste, my 7 yr old laptop was getting up to 80c with a cooling board underneath,

so i opend it up removed the laptop heatsink cleaned the old gunk off, and put the new stuff on, put it all back together and its running cooler than when i bought it 37c

    good eh

Got to the Account ticket authentification failed screen...
    looks promisung. Checking graphics settings.
Runs very slow... but I never ran the game with my browser underneath...
Still trying to get my hands on the graphics settings...
Left the game, was still on the above mentioned screen.
Ran like a slideshow, just a little faster.
Gonna try it again, with closed browser.
Will check in later to report.

This has uncrashed the computer I had that this was disagreeing with, but word of warning: Performance is extremely, extremely bad. To say that you have to run it on low settings would be an understatement. The resulting graphics will look like something that was primitive back in 1980. But you'll be able to play! You'll be completely BLIND, but you'll still be able to doff and claim your tribble and Lobi. Have a friend lead you around. You'll need it.

Remember to modify your StarTr~1/Live/Localdata/Gameprefs.pref settings to set RenderScaleX and Y to a really small value, like, say, "0.03125". Otherwise you will regret it! Slideshow!

    Ok This actually WORKED!

    BUT

When I loaded in I got a large Swift Shader logo in the bottom left corner of the screen. Probably because I didnt reset the gameprefs like was mentioned above.

And when I was in game I was getting 4 to 6 fps Maxium

I was able to claim 3 of the tribbles on the Characters I wanted them on and create the OrderofPersistance Chat Channel.

So when everybody gets back in game we have Comms!

If it is slow, run with minimum graphics settings, that's what I always run with since I have a slow laptop. (You can set minimum graphics by starting in safe mode, by clicking the options link. Safe mode lets you select minimum graphics.)

It's unbelievable to me that the software renderer is actually running faster than when I was running STO normally before (with RenderScaleX Y set at 0.5). Probably because the scaled graphics is not as sharp as before. At 0.5 it is fast and playable for me. Even if you reduce that setting to get faster speed at expense of fuzziness, the popup windows are just as sharp as before. So you can trade on exchange, open the new lockboxes, do doffs, claim Solanae tribble. Anybody who has that dreaded 18897741 error should try that software renderer, if only just to claim the Solanae tribble before it expires.

    See told you so :)
I also get the Swift Shader logo on left corner, but that is a small price to pay for being able to login. In my case, it is running faster than before, so I'd gladly take a logo. Since my laptop was so slow and laggy before, I was running with minimum graphics and tried to optimize all the settings for maximum performance. I guess that is why switching to the software renderer didn't slow the program down but actually sped it up.

Okay... missed that part. Will check that.
Right now, I had similar low fps than you, even though running on lowest settings with added half res. My eyes hurt a bit from that.
And that logo covers quite a portion of my hud, so even if I get it to run with some playable res and fps, that's still not so good for me...

Well, the graphics card of my dektop comuter tends to get too warm while playing.
Partly because the heatsink/cooler is a little dusty, but due to some circumstances I can't simply blow away said dust, as it is sticky. Has been running in a room which was also a kitchen for several years.
