I've made this joke before, but it's worth making again:
"Yes...we all know that we're gonna have a lot of Romulan stuff in season 8, I am honestly looking forward to it.
But what's the real cost? I don't think it's time, or marks, or dilithium, or DOFFs, or commodities, or anything else it might cost. No no no...the real cost is this:
The life of one Romulan senator, one criminal, and the self-respect of one Starfleet officer.
I don't know about anybody else, but I'd call that...a bargain."
Old joke aside, I'm personally looking forward to whatever this ends up being. If it's a Romulan faction (as long as it isn't 5-10 levels, then choosing Fed or KDF), that'd be really, and truly awesome, beyond all words honestly.
Even if it's just story missions, that alone would be really nice as well. Faction specific, not faction specific, as long as it's story-based missions, and not purely rep or endgame stuff, I'd still be happy with that. The game has been lacking the past couple seasons in purely story-based content. Yes I know we only go through it a couple times, but still, it's the fact that it's really been lacking.
I know Dstahl and some of the others have been bragging about they're able to do so much more with the larger team, etc etc. That's all well and good, but to me, here's what will make season 8 hugely impressive, or a disappointment:
Proving that this bigger team can actually do something. If Dstahl is right, whatever they release, if it blows my f---ing mind, I don't care what it is, as long as it does that, I'd gladly give an A to it all, and have some real and true hope.
But if it ends up being little more than hype...it won't be as disappointing, because I think at this point, we're a bit used to it.
So all in all, I'm cautiously, VERY cautiously, but hopefully optimistic, regardless of what season 8 has in it.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
It IS a featured episode series, or another Romulan-centric season with some STFs and the new "adventure zone". It may be very well another path toward a playable race or faction, because they would be able to work on assets, maps, they could use again for Romulan stuff later, but it's too soon.
The game still needs more endgame content. They have one complete faction, another one is half-finished and needs more than a tutorial and some episodes (ships, costumes, a couple of dailies, for instance), they still have 4-5 canon ships to sell, and so on. It's not time for a faction. Not yet. But it could be a good step toward it.
I won't hold my breath for a faction because it's not going to happen anytime soon. If you have high hopes, well, expect high disappointment. :P

Two romulans appear behind diogene0. One skillfully stabs him with a green nanoblade knive. While proping him up between the two of them, the other mutters through his tholian silk scarf:
So send him back to the consolate where he worked as a gardener, or straight to the ministry of information on Cardassia Prime where he really worked?
Umm..if its a new faction, does that mean we'll get a free character slot or will lowly f2p players be forced to either delete their fed (that they need to open the kdf option) to play rom/kdf or fork out for a new character slot?
If so..meh, they'd have to offer a dilithium pooping romulan scimtar to make me consider it

Now, where is my D'deridex class cruiser?
Oh and Denise Crosby was at a Sci-fi con recently, and said she did voice over work for STO, voicing the characters Tasha Yar, and Empress Sela. (Going to leave this right here.)

I agree with this assessment. And not because I don't want to see a Romulan faction, but because I want to see it done properly.
I simply do not see how Cryptic's resources can do three factions justice, when they seem to struggle with doing two. The last thing I want is Romulans done as a copy-pasta job.

Yes, but at the same time, they are trying to fix the Klingon faction, which was muddled up since beta. It would be a lot easier to build a new faction from scratch, which they probably should have done with the Klingons.

My two cents here is that a Romulan faction is way overdue. I know the boys in the KDF want more content, and that is understandable, but at the end of the day the series had started with the big 3 as the political superpowers. When the game came out, and the KDF limped on at the beginning, I was honestly wondering where the other superpower was in the star trek universe. With it not being in sight I figured that someone at cryptic dropped the ball on that one rather significantly. I have always wanted to see a romulan faction here, and after the whole beneath the raptor thing, I think, since so many people went 'faction' right away, I think their marketing department just shot the rest of perfect world in the face if they don't deliver the faction. A tie in with the KDF side mission wise would definitely solve people's want for the faction, and the KDF side being screwed content wise. Tie both sides into the same mission set. Done.
In the end though, the fact that there hasn't been a 3rd faction done in a universe that started with 3 superpowers politically, was a bit short sighted. Let's get that 3rd political power player in the game as is canon, and let's go into 3 way PvP matches and wreck stuff. If they are going to deny one of those political powers though, they should drop KDF till they are ready to allow the different powers to be playable. Not a popular sentiment, but let's get on track and allow other factions into the game starting with the big 3, and then move on from there to Cardassian maybe, and who knows from there. But if you are going to cut one of the big 3 out of the equation, might as well cut the other out also and go full fed and it would solve insane amounts of complaints and problems for the future.
Again, my two cents, someone else's turn now. Cheers all.
so much this!
also this: I hope it is a Romulan Faction. Romulans were who I wanted to play as when I first pre-ordered this game.
im putting all my Dill on stale, just hoarding it and PVPing/DOFFing from now on, also polishing my Credit Card - so that i can support a Romulan Starbase and finally STAB YOU IN THE BACK, FEDs !
Thinking more on this... when they released that teaser they should have known that everyone seeing it would immediately think "Romulan Faction"...
Perhaps what we'll see isn't a Romulan Faction, with a dedicated storyline but rather "Playable Romulan"
Personally... I'm hoping for an exploration revamp. I loved how you could explore the world in Fallout 3, something resembling that concept would be very cool
Perhaps what we'll see isn't a Romulan Faction, with a dedicated storyline but rather "Playable Romulan"
What we'll see is a new adventure zone in Romulan Space and maye an FE including Romulans ... because that's what everybody told us since November ... not sure how anyone could believe in a Romulan Faction, considering previous Dev-Statements ...
Dstahl: There will be more adventure zones like this. We?re currently working on Nimbus which will be featured in Season 8 (thus the placeholder for it in the Tau Dewa sector).
Dstahl: This includes focusing on Feature Episodes for Season 8. While the details are still being ironed out, the early indication is that there will be at least one new series at launch of S8 and maybe even more than
that. Once we get closer, I?ll share more details.
Dstahl: Season 7 is going to reveal more information about what *might* have happened to Sela as well as dive deep into the aftermath of the Romulan Feature Episode series. In addition, we are planning a big story update for Season 8 which will futher other story lines, but we aren't sharing any details about that yet since it is further out.

Finally, around 370 AD, the ancient philosopher Surak, revered as the father of Vulcan civilization, led his people in a great reformation to reject their emotions in favor of a philosophy that embraced pure logic. He demonstrated enormous courage, working for peace in the face of war. (TOS: "The Savage Curtain")
One group, known as "those who march beneath the Raptor's wings" (the future Romulans), did not accept Surak's teachings and split off from the Vulcans at this time. (TNG: "Gambit, Part II"; ENT: "Awakening")
If the Nimbus III adventure zone is on the way, and is in any way connected to this new release, then we should reflect on the history of the planet. What was the function of Nimbus III, the planet of "galactic peace"? To bring three distinct factions together--the Federation, the Klingons, and the Romulans--so that they could develop the planet in unison and forge stronger alliances as a result. Is this a hint at things to come?
If this is their answer to competing with TOR's expansion, I am all for it. And, we all get a free character slot (well that is wishful thinking there)

A character slot that can only be used for a Romulan faction Char? It could happen.
A website about what kind of romulan ship classes we will expect to see in the romulan faction as playable.
I think we will see any retrofit designs and new romulan ship design with surprise  as we have not seen before.
What do you think about The Scimitar vessel?
I think we will see a new Reman or Romulan vessels like the Scimitar ship and perhaps even more powerful, dangerous and deadly like the Guramba Siege Destroyer.

Nice link. Lol, I love how things have gone from skeptical to picking what ships we want over night.
I want a Romulan faction as well but it seems so strange that they would sit on this information and not announce it, though I guess May is still quite awhile out.

Scimitar is a strong candidate for Romulan Z-Store ship #1....
I'd be interesting if it had a cone attack similar to Shinzon's Thalaron projector.
BoP: very similar to the KDF version in having enhanced battle cloak, other stats? hard to say. good choice for low tier
D7: hehe, why not? good choice for mid tier
D'Deridex: heavy cruiser, good choice for high teir.
Droneship: oy, there's a wide variety of interesting possibilities here....
Science ship: with PHASING CLOAK!!! WANT!
Scout: who knows?
Shuttle: see scout, obvious source for a Romulan shuttle design though.
Valdore: While the Mogai in the game is inspired by this ship.... this thing was meant as a huge vessel capable of slugging it out with the best the Federation could field.
Reman Scorpions would make a nice fighter/shuttlecraft
Mogai: this is a highly maneuverable tac ship in the game, and apparently considerably smaller than the Valdore.
Narada.... that's an interesting monstrosity.... another good candidate for Z-store.
1. The 2800 Teaser happened at least 2 months before release, and there were lot of speculations when they released it ... including playable Cardassians ... so we didn't exactly "knew" what is was either ...
2. They already told us about "at least 1 FE with Season 8" just like they told us "no Romulan Faction before Season 9"
Stahl recently said that the May update is something "more than a season" and that he no longer calls it a season. The only word I can think of -- and one I think he's deliberately teasing -- is an expansion.
Also note how dry the C-Store has been. Unless lockboxes are THAT good, the other shoe has to drop sometime in terms of revenue.
So I think maybe a paid expansion. The question is how Klingons are handled.

Z-Store is pretty dry for 1 year now in favor of Lockboxes / Lobi-Store ... besides the Vesta we only got some overpriced uniforms like Racing Uniforms (I'm pretty sure Ambassador+1, Andorian Ship etc are coming soonish btw) ... well we'll see but i heard the "The biggest prettiest Uber-Season yet" Stuff for 7 Seasons now ... so I have trouble believing it :P
The way the STO F2P model works, I seriously doubt an Paid Expansion though ...
1. Subs get it for free ... not gonna happen ... considering there is almost no point in Subscribing now ...
2. Everyone has to pay for it ... which would make STO the most unfair F2P model ever ...
