A starship variant (most likely cosmetic)
A free starship slot (For those of you that just HAVE to collect them all)

Cryptic and PWE, please note that these types of rewards do NOT encourage people to shell out 300 USD for a lifetime membership, or the equivalent of $0.50 daily in monthly membership fees.
Please find better ways to reward your Gold members than with beads and trinkets. This is not Manhattan and we are not naieve natives that you can fool forever.
Some possibilities for Gold member rewards, since I believe anyone who denegrates a system should have an idea how it can be fixed:
GOLD Master Keys - one free per month to all Gold Members - allows you to open 10 lockboxes of your choice. Latinum Series Master Keys - available only to Gold members with 500 days or more - allows you to open any number of lockboxs of a particular series (Each series key sold seperately) - available for the price of a 10 pack of regular keys in the Z Store Latinum Master Key - K Series - A reward at 1000 days - Bound to Account, so it can be traded across characters - Allows unlimited opening of all lockboxes released up to and including the 1000 day mark of the game. (This means that the K1 series released with the 1000 day rewards would open Cardassian, Ferengi, and Tholian Lockboxes.)
The Latinum Series Keys are purchaseable, but the Gold and K Series keys are not.
The Gold Keys have a limited use, but neither of the Latinum Keys do (They are permanent keys)
If you were to implement this in some form, you would ensure that your PAYING MEMBERS would be the ones actually grabbing lockboxes in the hopes of winning the top prizes.
Do as you will, but realize that the longer that these Veteran rewards are left as purely Cosmetic, the fewer new subscribers you will attract.
Doubt your latinum Master Keys idea will ever occur at the current drop rate. It would completely mess up the economy if I can open up thousands of lockboxes for free.

Sony does it with DCUO. If I could get some of the people I enjoy playing with in there, I would buy a lifetime sub for that reason specifically.
While the vet rewards aren't bad, there's nothing there that really seems worth the 300 LTS or monthly fees. i would LOVE for cryptic to institute something like DCUO did with the Prometheus boxes.
Dev's have stated earlier (not gonna find the quote) that the veteran ship variant will actually be a new ship for all 1000 day vets. Perhaps it's going to be "that ship that must not be named"!!!
I'm curious as if to they are going to extend the Vet rewards to 2000 days and the like after the 1000 one has been hit.
This was answered in the August 'Ask Cryptic' news post...
Q: (robpivarnik) Love the account bank, but with all the new pets, consumables, and other goodies? any chance we old-timers can get a few more rows of bank slots? as a 1701-day veteran?s reward, perhaps?
Dstahl: You won?t have to wait a couple more years to get more bank slots. We intend to continue offering account or regular bank slots as additional reward unlocks either through the veteran system, via future rank additions, or as a reward for completing other personal development systems in the future.
We don?t expect the current caps on any type of slots to be the final caps. That also includes Ship slots, Foundry project slots, and pretty much any other type of slot in the game.

Why on earth would they give out stuff each month that costs more in the c-store than a 1-month subscription?
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
I certainly hope not. We have enough problems without "those people" messing around in our affairs.
The Wells would be an awesome ship to have for the 1,000 Day Vet Reward. It would be the first time int he history of Veteran Rewards that Cryptic actually gave the playerbase something that they actually want.

And those lockboxes have a rarer drop rate and they are bind on pickup. Which is why I said at the current drop rate. I can purchase 1000 lockboxes for very cheap in this game without doing anything. For STO to do this, then the drop rate would have to be 1 or 2 every day or whatever DCUO's drop rate is and Bind on Pickup.
I'm curious as if to they are going to extend the Vet rewards to 2000 days and the like after the 1000 one has been hit.
The most recent dev comment (32:30 from Salami Inferno Priority One #88 in July 2012) was they have no plans (keep in mind -- things can always change) to expand it beyond 1000 days. That doesn't mean gold subscribers won't get goodies, they just won't be time-gated -- for example, getting an invite to closed beta for Neverwinter for LTS.
A lot of people are assuming it's the Wells and Korath. Personally, I'm not sure Cryptic would be giving the 1,000 day Vets a Science Ship as their Vet Reward. I'd love to have those ships, though; but I like Science Vessels, whereas I think most people would prefer an Escort or Cruiser type.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
There is always the possibility of retroactive veteran rewards. So it is possible that we could go a year without veteran rewards after the 1000 day vet reward and they could add the 1100, 1200, and 1300 day vet reward in October 2013. Unless the devs say that this is the last veteran reward ever, then there will always be the possibility for more. And even then, new management voids all promises.
Because they are Time Ships, doesn't mean they are Science Ships. They very well could be highly versitile ships with Universal slots. Which would be what Feds wanted for a long time, a Federation BoP.
Though still odd we can't have old ships or have the Enterprise-J in the game, but it's okay to have 29th Century ships flying around 400 years in the past.

Talk to CBS for the old ships and the Ent J CBS is the one who said no to a Ent J not cryptic
Might be a rarity issue if they give us ships that looks like it belongs in the 29th Century. The amount of people that will reach 1000 days or even reach 1000 days will be the total amount of lifetime subscribers minus lifers that will never play this game again. I doubt that even 1% of the players in this game will ever reach the 1000 day veteran reward. I have just over a month to go for whatever this ship would be.
Of course, it might be possible that these ships are based on designs that the Department of Temporal Investigations and their KDF counterpart took on the Wells and Korath ships. So there will be some minor improvements that these ships have, but nowhere near what a ship 400 years in the future would have compared to present day starships.
Of course, it is more likely that these are npc models for a future time travel mission or a mission that has been scrapped and we will never see it. I have no idea what the 1000 day veteran reward ship will look like, but since it says starship variant, then chances are that it will be a retrofit.

and im glad they did say no
As I recall, CBS only said "no" to the Enterprise-J if it's less than two miles long. Cryptic is the one who said they had to make it smaller for gameplay.
I think it could be a hub. It couldn't be a ship because CBS wouldn't allow it to be downsized for gameplay reasons and Cryptic can't support a ship that is 5 times the Odyssey's size.

NO!!! You mustn't! It'll kill a lot of people and force a rather important person to survive by gnawing his arm off!
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
Oh those darn Vogons... ;-) Their poetry is something to behold.

Actually, according to Dan Stahl (get out your salt shaker), the J got nixed because its literally the size of ESD.
Now THAT would be a cause to go gold!
