Not to mention every player over 40 would never buy another ship again.
So very true...
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Dev's have stated earlier (not gonna find the quote) that the veteran ship variant will actually be a new ship for all 1000 day vets. Perhaps it's going to be "that ship that must not be named"!!!
A starship variant (most likely cosmetic)
A free starship slot (For those of you that just HAVE to collect them all)

Cryptic and PWE, please note that these types of rewards do NOT encourage people to shell out 300 USD for a lifetime membership, or the equivalent of $0.50 daily in monthly membership fees.
Please find better ways to reward your Gold members than with beads and trinkets. This is not Manhattan and we are not naieve natives that you can fool forever.
Some possibilities for Gold member rewards, since I believe anyone who denegrates a system should have an idea how it can be fixed:
GOLD Master Keys - one free per month to all Gold Members - allows you to open 10 lockboxes of your choice. Latinum Series Master Keys - available only to Gold members with 500 days or more - allows you to open any number of lockboxs of a particular series (Each series key sold seperately) - available for the price of a 10 pack of regular keys in the Z Store Latinum Master Key - K Series - A reward at 1000 days - Bound to Account, so it can be traded across characters - Allows unlimited opening of all lockboxes released up to and including the 1000 day mark of the game. (This means that the K1 series released with the 1000 day rewards would open Cardassian, Ferengi, and Tholian Lockboxes.)
The Latinum Series Keys are purchaseable, but the Gold and K Series keys are not.
The Gold Keys have a limited use, but neither of the Latinum Keys do (They are permanent keys)
If you were to implement this in some form, you would ensure that your PAYING MEMBERS would be the ones actually grabbing lockboxes in the hopes of winning the top prizes.
Do as you will, but realize that the longer that these Veteran rewards are left as purely Cosmetic, the fewer new subscribers you will attract.
They MAY implement 1 as a 1000 day reward.
They will NEVER implement 2 and 3. It will mess up the economy and will lose PWE too much money.
1) It's an Assault Cruiser refit so it's a variant as stated
2) It's not currently playable but exists so no new assets are required
3) It encourages buying the C-store Sov refit to use it on a highest tier ship
4) It's not controversial or as desirable as a Tier 5 Connie, for example.
I know a ship that would get tongues wagging, how about a ship with a base set of stats, but you can use any skin from a ship you currently own (apart from a T2 cruiser of course) on it....
If it is the wells class, then I call BS because it would have to be so far ahead of any ship currently ingame, that no other ship will ever be worth buying/piloted again.
A nice prize for 1000 days would be a free Lockbox ship for one character on your account (bound on receiving). This would give anyone that has committed themselves to nearly three years of playing a special prize for their devotion. The ship would not affect the economy and most players have several character at this point, so the players still would have to rely on lockboxes or exhcange to get more Lockbox ships.
Give a player a taste, and Cryptic/PWE might find more enthusiasm in wanting to get more from the lockbox.
p.s Also think about giving more Lobi crystals or reducing the Lobi price for the Recluse (600 woul be nice).

Not even remotely possible without a complete redesign of how ships currently work.

Unless they treat the Wells as the weakest ship in the 29th century and/or state that it has been stripped of its weaponry and so all we have is a really nice frame that we have to fill with modern weaponry.
Of course, the problem with both is that all we've seen are low rez NPC models and player ships have to be higher rez, which is why (for example) the player Jem'Hadar attack ship, D'Kora, and Galor are separate models from the NPC ships.
Sony does it with DCUO. If I could get some of the people I enjoy playing with in there, I would buy a lifetime sub for that reason specifically.
Sony set up their game so that it was very difficult to monetize on the game, and then charge you IRL cash to get access to your in game money.
Also, I'm still sticking to my guns and saying it is the two timeships that were datamined.

Stupid question, but how long will it be until the first people reach 1000? For me it's 50 days but I got my lifetime sub around the end of the open beta.

Well the Relativity has a registry code of NCV-474439-G so there could be a Relativity ship with a registry code of NCV-474439. Looking at the Enterprise ships, they all follow a similar style. Going by that logic, the Relativity and the Relativity-G could have similar style so a 25th Century ship could have a similar look to a 29th Century ship.
The first players eligible for 900 days were on July 2nd. That means 1,000 day Vets should start getting their around October 10th - making them around 37 days out.

I among first of the LT subs. Getting one within hours of them first being offered. I'm 48 days out.
O_o Strange, I'm pretty sure I remember people getting the monkey weeks before me.

So what if it was the Excalibur/Vesta WITHOUT the Connie option?
Typhoon or Wells, then.
It's not the wells

Voila', a ship that is very good at everything, but not so overpowered as to be the best at anything, and can replace any class of ship.
If you want something that would make people want to get a 1000 days in on Gold, you should make it worth their while.

The 1000 day reward is either going to be 2 specific faction ships or a non-faction specific ship, like the lockbox ships.

The typhoon would be fed only, yes. I don't play kdf enough to know their equivalent. Maybe a Talon Battleship http://www.stowiki.org/Talon_Battleship.

I'm sitting at 37 days as well. Will be interesting to see what the ship will be.
