You are overlooking one teensy little thing. While it shared many design features with the NX-class the Constitution was a Federation starship, not an Earth starship. There's no reason that the Vulcans would prefer using and having their borders guarded by inferior ships. Also: The Defiant blows up your point.

Better designed ship means more than just better weapons and shields. My point is that we don't have many Vulcan ships to compare to and their mentality shows that they are not in the habit of change so their design could stay the same for hundreds of years, but change the technology as needed. So a 22nd Century Vulcan ship and a 25th Century Vulcan ship could look the same, but are vastly different in terms of capabilities.

Humans on the other hand, can't go a year without changing something. The only reason why designs from 50 years ago are still around in the present is they are still in use or a Collector's item. We don't see ships from the 1800s around except maybe in a museum and I don't see that changing in the future. Some people might fit modern technology into an old piece of junk, but that is more of a personal project.

I'm gonna preface this by reminding everybody once again I don't work for PWE, and don't have any inside info. So this is entirely made up by me, and if it later turns out to be the actual case, it's solely because I'm psychic and win and awesome and stuff:

Maybe they'll finally take the plunge and 1000 day vets will open all lockboxes free like DCUO.

That would be very welcome, but alas it would not get my Vorta a Jem'hadar Attack Ship.

It might eventually, they've brought it back before. I see no reason why they would not do that again.

In any case I kind of doubt it. It will most likely be the Wells/Korrath/Possibly something else.

    I'm thinking Garbage Scow.

It comes with these exciting features:

    * A "store" where you can buy items that other players in your instance have discarded
    * A +50% ground threat boost vs Klingons (only in bars)
    * All-universal Boff stations (but only for Pakleds or Ferengi Boffs)

    Some assembly required.

It could be a Smells-class time scow, so you could buy discarded items from yesterday, too. :D

Actually the other Defiant (DS9) also blows up your point.

Taking any frame and installing a SIF while cramming it full of Defiant class goodness would produce a Tier 5 level Connie with room to spare.

I cannot express how happy I am that Next Gen supplied that little piece of equipment enabling any rickety old framework including the Clipper Ship Enterprise to be reworked into a top of the line Starship.

Would be a pretty sweet ship if your can buy discarded items from anywhere. Someone accidentally sold their MACO Space Shield Mk XII? Now you can purchase it for a reasonable price.

Even better, a decommissioned Connie that serves as a scow. :-)

Some of us are going to be happy. Some will be disappointed. You can't make everyone happy.

So, here I am, 64 days out. :)

That will never happen since lockbox items are tradeable. You could have one vet in a Fleet open everyone's boxes and trade around the contents. The only thing anyone else would miss out on would be the Lobi... but then Lobi items are tradeable too, so the vet could buy the Lobi items and hand them out also.

Sounds like the Wells Class won't be the 1000 day vet reward. dstahl mentioned that it will come this month and the vet reward is next month. Either it will be a lockbox ship, C-Store ship, or some other method of obtaining it.

When asked what the next lockbox ship would be in the Raptr QA Dstahl said that only "time" would tell (quotation marks included), so it's the next lockbox ship, scheduled for later this month.

And after spending $125 dollars on keys to open those lockboxes and get the Wells-class, I will use that ship to go back in time and beat the TRIBBLE out of myself for wasting that much money on a virtual item, creating a universe-threatening paradox that will be the subject of the next Featured Episode. Unfortunately, successfully completing that FE puts your ship and Captain back where you were when you accepted the first FE mission due to you never needing to do the FE in the first place because you stopped the paradox. Unsuccessfully completing the FE destroys the universe.

    Time travel sucks.

Obviously the 1000 day reward should be a locksmith tribble, that gives out a lock box key when used with a 24 hour cooldown.

or like the dilitium doff mission, a 2d mission that costs xdil to get a lockbox key reward with a crit chance for 2.

the Wells class would be a lock box ship i may actively go to get rather than just opening them for the cross faction consoles

That is a little strange as the Wells class is technically a faction ship, federation. I thought they said that ships from the major factions would not be included in the lockbox fail.

I am not aware of the devs saying that lockbox ships have to be nonfaction only. The Wells and its KDF counterpart fall under the policy that if these ships are playable, then they must be rare for lockbox ships.

And if they have identical stats but faction-specific skins, I don't see the complaint about one side getting them vs. the other.

The "Korath" class ship seen in the Foundry and in random encounters as NPC's will probably be the KDF counterpart to the Wells.

By my calculations the first 1000 day veterans will be 1 month from today on the 11th or 12th of October.
    Subscribed For: 969 Days
    So 31 days to go.

    Are you excited yet?

I am at 957 days, but I "lost" a month because I entered a second retail key at some point which effectively stopped my counter for 30 "free" days.

So that means, the reward should go live in less then 2 weeks.

Any leaks and sneak peaks so far?

I picked up the LTS basically as soon as it was live and I'm at 971 today. Since rewards have always gone live at x99 as opposed to x00 that means that there's still 28 days to go. So actually (unless it's late) it's exactly four weeks away and should launch on the 10th of October.

No information has been released yet. I'm assuming it's going to be like the 900 Day Vet Reward: a blog will come out about it about a week before it goes live. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

As I posted somewhere above, the 900 Day Reward launched on July 2nd - that was the earliest anyone could get it. That means the earliest anyone can get the 1,000 Day Reward is October 10th.

LTS = 971 days as of this posting.

The 10th of October is on a Wednesday. Wednesday is the day before Patch Thursday. So I'm guessing the 1000 day vet rewards will drop in game on the 11th with the rest of that weeks patches...although it could be dropped in earlier like the week prior. :)

Okay, the 1000 day veteran reward is coming up. It's billed as a "special variant" and we've been told that it will be a ship.

My concern about a 'one size fits all' reward is that it will have a limited appeal. Lets face it, the only thing 1000 day veterans have in common with each other is that they have been subscribed for a 1000 days. Some of these veterans will be Klingon loyalists, some will be Federation loyalists, after a thousand days I imagine most will play both factions like I do, some will prefer escorts, some cruisers, some science vessels, even a few might prefer more esoteric ships found under the 'others' tab. Some will only play hot chicks, some have character stories all written out, some may only play 'aliens' so they can optimize their traits. Without rambling on for too long, 1000 day veterans are going to be a widely diverse group of people and finding one ship to satisfy them all will be impossible.

But that's okay, Cryptic's got some wiggle room to fix this. The reward isn't advertised as "a special veteran ship" it is advertised as a "special variant." So, here's what I'd like to see.

The thousand day veteran reward is.... any one ship you want that is in game right now. You want a no longer available lock box ship, you'll find it under the 'others tab' and the only way to buy it is your 1K token. You want your portly, middle aged Federation Admiral to fly around in a beat up old B'Rel, ala Star Trek IV, done, see the ship vendor they've added to the Captain's table. You've been complaining that your Varanus doesn't stand up to the Intrepid-R, have a Fleet Intrepid-R, you can even put red stripes on it if you want it to look more Klingon.

Now, the usual problems with a suggestion like this wouldn't really apply here. Cryptic doesn't want cross faction ships to be common, that's allright 1k Veterans are definitely not common. Game balance concerns in PVP? This takes steps towards fixing game balance concerns in PVP. It won't hurt their revenue at all, as most people will spend that reward for 30+ months of subscription fees on something they can't get any other way, and who knows, this might inspire people to impulse buy a lifetime sub.
