OP: I tried to have a copy of this up on the Klingon ship forums as well. Sadly copying breaks your format. If you would make a copy of your opening post in the klingon forums, I'll be happy to sticky it there, too.
i believe they would want it in the Klingon Shipyards after all, your awesome chart is here in the Federation Shipyards, so it would only be fair
Oh yeah, I see that now... I haven't been on the forums as much this week, and hadn't noticed they moved the thread to "Federation Shipyards"... I even had a hard time finding it. LOL. Maybe something should be mentioned in the Academy (Information and Discussion) Forum about these two new shipyard sections.
Anywho, I'll post the original post in the KDF Shipyards too. For now it'll just mirror what this one says, and everytime there's an update, I'll post it there too... In time, I may change the original post to be only for the appropriate faction, and maybe just link to the other faction's shipyard thread. I don't know. Mirroring will be best for now, so that nobody gets confused and wonders where the other chart is.
I'm confused as to why this thread has been moved to a feedback area? Surely it was better in the academy?
There does seem to be alot of confusion as to what constitutes "feedback". I have to agree, this is really an "information and advice" thread for players seeking help, rather than feedback for the devs.
I had a similar thing happen with a thread that was asking a question, it got moved to C-Store feedback. Since when has a question been feedback?
also this has Klingon information as well so why move it to the Fed Shipyard as the KDF captains wont beable to find it as easy.
keep up the fantastic work.
trying to decided on how to print it out so have a large copy on my wall but still be able to keep up with changes that you do.

actually, spidermitch posted it in the Klingon Fleetyard thread as well the devs let him, as his charts are incredible, and it makes sense as well
I also don't think this belongs in "Feedback". I had trouble finding it just now. Thankfully I remembered SpiderMitch's name, so I used the search function to find it.

And yes, this chart is freaking amazing!
Just in case you ever need to find it again, http://bit.ly/stoshipchart is a redirector that comes directly to the original post of this thread. It's on the top of the charts, in case anyone that's downloaded the chart wants to get the latest & greatest - but has forgotten or can't find the thread.
Season 4 has revamped the entire shipstore. Now you can scroll though all the ships and see a model of it (like in the ship editing window), you can also look at all variants of each skin, also all of the ships stats and special abilites are shown as well. It's very similar to my original chart and your new on Spidermitch. Its 'very' nice! You 'have' to check it out :-D

actually Suricata, i don't think so
you must remember, not everyone has the time to freely go through that new ship tailor (those who can play 2 hours every day, or something like that)
so while i'm sure visitors to the charts will decrease a bit, your charts are still invaluable resources, and people will want to continue seeing them
So having read the comments about the new ship requisition UI, I jumped into tribble, patched up, and ran to the npc. What I discovered was something that looked like a flash version of my chart. haha. I think it's great that Cryptic is finally letting you view all the ships from all angles. Previewing the ships was one of the original reasons I began working on these charts.
So, I was kinda thinking like Suricata: maybe our charts are now obsolete. Then I played this double XP weekend, and got my KDF Orion up to Lt. Gen. I exported the character to tribble to try to figure out which last tier ship to get. I was excited to use the new ship requisitions UI to try to decide on the ship. I pulled it up and started to compare the ships... And... I found it frustrating. While I could look at the ship in a 360 view and see all angles & such, I found comparing the stats very annoying, having to constantly click from one to the other, remembering the previous BOF & consoles and such.
Anyway, I wound up pullin up my own shipchart for reference, and I made the decision that I'd keep working on it, because I really find it easier for comparison.
One thing that may change, is that I may take some of the various angles of the ships off. With the ability to see it every which way in the requisition UI, do we really need the stills of each angle? Maybe just a side and a quarter angle? I pose this question to everyone. Maybe just a top and side? Or just Top & Quarter? Or all of them (like it is)? What do you think?
personally, I couldn't imagine your charts without the views we have in fact, i wish we had more views (it's a small wish though, so i'll be okay if you don't change the current views)
and yeah, compared to the ship selections UI, your charts are MUCH easier... and we'd be sad if we lost such invaluable resources
so please, keep up the great work!
(and btw, when i looked at the icon legend on the fed chart, i noticed that crew indicator was using the old style, which makes it look out of place compared to the new crew icon on every ship... just to let you know)

Glad to hear you're going to keep this updated. I've got two monitors and I'll put your chart on one side while I play STO on the other. I love using your chart to compare ships.
I like all the views in your chart. I'd say leave them if it isn't too much more effort at this point. *IF* you do decide to remove them, I'd vote that you leave in a side view and ... I don't know what you call it but one where you see the ship coming towards you and you sort of see the the front, top, and side and an angle, like's it's swooping down towards the viewer.

I came to a similar conclusion and started working on the season 4 version of my own charts, I've opted for a top/side view of the ships (replacing the vector side views to make updating easier), I also removed inertia since I really don't think it is a stat that players really consider when purchasing a ship.
It seems like our ship charts are starting to meet halfway :-P
And yes, I'm really happy they were inspired by our charts and implemented a flash styled version of it in the game :-P

Personally leave them the way they are, I love looking at your charts! I would have been sad if you would have stopped...

Agreed!
I'm very glad to see you're intending to continue with the charts. I too prefer the mix of views, but if there were to be a choice of only two then the side and "quarter" views are preferred.

Ok, so what I described is what is referred to as the "quarter" view? Cool. Noted. Thanks!
There's a tiny little error with the Long Range Science Vessel (and its Retrofit), though: The Discovery-Class' pylons have been adjusted so that they are slightly lower at impulse and aren't straight-up vertical (and therefore less "boxy") at Warp.
It's a little thing, but I think that it probably should be updated.
Do you think you could create PDFs of your Ship Charts, for us to be able to print at our local neighborhood Kinko's? It'd be fairly useful.
Sorry I've been on hiatus for a little bit.... I think Kinko's will print it out as-is, as a .JPG. A few people have already gotten it printed like that.... If not, there are a few free converters you can find on the internet that may help you out. I would offer to do it, but I've never had the need to.
That being said, they are about to change a lot of ships, thus, I will be changing the charts quite a bit. I've even considered redoing the current ones with different angles and removing some views.... I don't know yet though. One thing's for sure: They've added a Nova class variant and we all know the EntF/Odyssey class will be coming out sometime, so you may want to hold off on printing it.

Not to mention the dozen plus new ships, skins, and other variants coming in the next few months.
Right.
Also, the reason I asked for a PDF was that I tried saving it from the net as a JPEG once. I had zoomed in before doing so, but when I looked at the image through my computer's Image Viewer, I discovered that I had gotten the un-zoomed version, which blurs considerably when you zoom in the normal way.
Well folks, it looks like it's about that time again. With the Rhode Island class scheduled to be released from Utopia Planitia sometime this week, Ill be adding it (with a possible revamp to some of the sections) to the chart. This being said, any suggestions / fixes / issues with the current chart will be looked at & fixed / moved / improved. So, if you see anything you want on the chart, nows the time to speak up!
I'm still considering removing the front view, and keep Top, Side, 3-quarter angles. I was going to use the foundry to get some updated pictures, but it's been offline... so the updates may have to wait. Anyway, I'm still on the fence with this one though. With the in-game shipyard model previews, one can look at the ships any which way., but comparisons are still pretty tough to accomplish... Removing the front view of every ship may allow addition of new classes, without expanding (the admittedly already massive) chart.
Anyway, just some thoughts I had. Wanted to share and let you guys chime in with any thoughts / improvements.

You've always wanted to go for a more graphically intence view of the ships compared to my charts, how about doing what you suggested a few months back, where you have images of the ships with all the armours types on (Aegis, Borg, Reman).
You are right though, the charts are getting big (mines at 9463 x 3388 currently) and we know they are adding variants too all the Tier 2,3 and 4 ships. Perhaps doubling up the tiers, so each ship type (escort, cruiser, science) gets 2 rows instead of 1?

Well, I've been doing a side project to the charts, creating a "Graphical Ship Equipment" chart, which features the ships wearing Aegis / Borg etc sets... However, I've just been slowly working on it in my spare time. I may be able to add it to the current charts, to make them feature the sets at the bottom (perhaps under the shuttles), but I'm not sure. Currently, I want to make sure I have the layout correct in the current incarnation of the chart, before adding something like that... but it's definitely a thought i'm toying with.
You're absolutely right, Suri, about the size of these charts. I've once or twice thought about breaking it up, with higher tiers on a separate instance, but personally, I like the way the thing looks with all tiers on it right now. However, if in the far future there are too many per tier, and it warrants such a split, that may be a direction we both have to go
Interesting idea about doubling the row if I need room....
I've kinda been following a rule with the classes / columns: if the parts are interchangeable with other ships in the tier, I add that class to that column... If they aren't compatible (like how Excelsior parts aren't interchangeable with Dakota parts) then I make another column and add it on it's own.
It will be interesting to see that if the Rhode Island is interchangeable, if the other new classes follow suite.
You and I have talked a bit offline, and even though we see differently about the way we want to present the information, I'm always thankful for suggestions & criticism... it's how we can work to make the best possible resources! So thanks for taking the time for the suggestions!

No problem; I'd be glad to! Where would you like me to post it? Klingon Gameplay? Klingon Fleetyards? or some other place?
