Thanks for the new updates to the charts. I really hope you are able to add this next batch of ships as I suspect we won't see any new ones for a while. By the looks of things this will pretty much round off the ranks and give a level of consistency across the board.
Wow, that's lots o ships. Bout time! There were gaps in my shipchart
I've just uploaded a new version of the chart (FED v7.9.2), in which I've added the Bellerophon & begun reworking the angles of previous ship pics. I've been toying with the idea for a few months, and since all these new ships have me taking pics and cutting them out, I figured I would replace angles of older ships too.
My shipchart was always about showing the stats of ships for easy comparison as well as providing multiple angles of the ships so a player could plan out their next ship (and maybe even get an idea of which parts to swap around before they were able to view the ship). However, Cryptic put the ability to preview the ships you don't own at ship requisitions....
So, while I still use the ship to make comparisons both on the stats as well as the look of the ships, I don't think we need to see the ships from every angle anymore. So I've really been putting alot of thought about which views would look nice, and which are absolutely needed. I've settled on the following:
Forward / side Downward Dive shot
Forward / side Upward Rising Shot
Top / side angled shot
As stated previously, I've done this on the Excelsior & Excelsior Retrofit as well as the Long Range Science Vessel Classes and the new Bellerophone. Please take the time to look at these sections and let me know what you think. I appreciate the feedback and welcome suggestions.
i admit, i LOVE the new ship angles on the Excelsior and the LRSV's, including the Bella ... but i feel it needs a 4th angle. otherwise it looks like it's missing something, to me at least
hmm... maybe a Top / Forward view? (like the side view, except the front part is facing away from the computer screen, but not angled in a way that we're looking at the true back angle of the ship). I don't know about you or anyone else, but that is the most common ship angle you'll see, and the most-looked angle you'll see while piloting your ship.
still, i'm not sure... but I think it would work Though I also admit I'm not sure how you'd put those angles in an orderly fashion as well... but then again, it's just a suggestion

Hmm... Having trouble visualizing what you mean. So like a butt view? Can you take a screenshot to show me? Either way, glad you like the angles on the LRSVs & Excelsior! Thx for the feedback!
Really liking the new angles, and I'm glad to see an update; your charts were always my first stop when i needed to find info about a ship, and to plan which ship i was getting when i hit my next rank.

would have shown you one picture, but that would have been hotlinking... anyway, the 6th 7th and 8th pictures show sorta what i mean (I realize they're not current in-game screenshots, but that doesn't exactly work for me ). except, instead of facing the left and away from us, rotate the image about 45 degrees to the right, and you got the angle i was talking about
hope that clears things up, and good luck on the charts

Oh I see! Humm.... may have to wait on any kind of aft view. Right now as I add the new +1 ships, I'm going through and updating ships of that tier with the new angles. After I do that (and add the +1 stats as they arrive on holodeck) I'll look into adding a 4th view. Thx for the feedback! It's always appreciated!

i kinda figured you adding a 4th view to all these ships while at the same time updating the angles wouldn't happen right away still, thanks for telling me the plan, and i wish you the best of luck on the charts (the vast majority of the forums love them after all )
Do you think you could get me some high-quality images of the Oslo-Class?
I need a top view, a side view, a frontal view, and a rear view.
The reason I'm asking is, I've made a request on these forums for an MSD of the Oslo, and the guy who is thinking of taking on the request wants those views before he starts.
Ha! I got the Bellerophon & Gladius on the chart before Cryptic released them! Woot! Now just gotta put those stats up there (which I'll be doing as soon as I can.) Something I noticed with the new angles though: I actually took pics of my current Excelsior & Excel Retro... If you look closely, you'll see the NX-20000 USS Velocity. Kinda funny. I usually just add them with a random name, or something like "Assault Cruis" as the name, but with all the pictures of the ships I'm going back to take... Oh well.
FYI SpiderMitch - additional Tribble Character Transfers are now available as of the latest F2P DevBlog! Up to 3 characters (space must be available for the copied toon, as always,) so those KDF ships are now available to you!
Hey everyone! Wanted to touch base to tell you guys about my plans moving forward.
As most of you know, I'm currently working to revamp the shipchart with new angles of all the ships. I've also started to incorporate new indicator icons & placement of the section stats. The "Turn Rate" has a little curved arrow with a ##degree/sec text next to it. And the "Impulse Modifier" is now shown with impulse trails of each ship silhouette as a small .## on the bottom trail. "Inertia" has been removed. I've done this because no where in STO does it actually show the inertia amount (correct me if i'm wrong on this), and because I won't be spending as much time in STO when it goes F2p, I don't want to put stats up there that can't be easily verified. I've also taken the opportunity of this revamp to add a "Universal Console" LCARS popout & move the Devices to the side as well. (still working out where to put this on the non +1 ships).
Now that all that's said... I plan on this to be the last major revamp I do on these charts. Three times (that I can remember) I've gone back and retroactively changed all things on the chart. From stat indicators to the LCARS brackets, every piece of this chart has been changed two or three times. Mainly, I blame myself for these - I'm a perfectionist, and if I'm not happy with something it bugs me until I correct it. I feel that these changes bring the chart more in-line to what I envisioned when starting it: a way to quickly compare stats & look at various ship angles to determine the best option for you as a player.
As always, your opinions are valued. Please let me know what you think about these changes.

I thought the ship library console in the ESD ship requisitions area had inertia on it last time I checked, but for all I know the stat could have been removed.
i have a feeling that no matter the file size, people will still view it when they can
also, the charts are coming along nicely with the new indicators and ship angles (how's the decision on my discussed 4th angle that i discussed btw?), plus with all the new ships, your charts will be bigger than ever without the gaps, it just looks more complete than ever (and you haven't even added all the new ships yet... but I know it's the truth)

Thx for the words of encouragement, Trek17. As for the 4th angle, right now I'm really trying to get all the ships uniform with the three angles previously mentioned. As of today, I've uploaded v7.9.7. This version has the replacement angles for the first half of ships Lt - Cmd (with exception of Connie and Thunderchild).
As I mentioned before, I'm also using the opportunity to revamp each section with indicators and lcars updates. This is a painstaking process, but I'm trying my best to go through the tiers and rework everything... So much so, that I haven't been in STO in a few weeks, and looking at the upcoming holidays, I'm really not sure how much time I'll have to devote to it... I'm even considering pausing on the FED chart when I hit the RA - VA tiers to focus on adding in stuff on the KDF side.
The ultimate goal was to have solid charts for newcomers when the game goes live with F2p, but Cryptic's announcement of a Jan date kinda put a deadline I may not be able to meet, what with Thanksgiving & Christmas just around the corner.

understood
still, at the speed you're going with the new indicators and angles, it looks like you'll get them all updated before that deadline... even with Thanksgiving and Christmas, to me at least As for my opinion, I'd recommand getting the charts consistent first (all new indicators and angles like you've been doing), then filling in the new ships you haven't added yet into the gaps. If you can do both, then all the better
people can easily understand that you're still in the process of adding the new ships, but consistency is more important to them on a first impression (otherwise there's much confusion, especially to newcomers)
still, you're free to do things your own way, but this is just the opinion of a fan
Hey guys! Just a quick note to announce that these ship charts were mentioned on the latest episode of Priority One podcast. I wrote into the show a bit ago to help spread the word to new players that will be coming in. They gave me a shoutout & talked about the charts with phenomenal enthusiasm! If you've never listened to Priority One, head over and give these guys a listen!
Now back to the grindstone:
With Thanksgiving / black friday / cyber monday craziness out of the way, I hope to work on all the STO changes this weekend. Below is a summary of what I need to update / change. all looks good to me don't see anything missing
still, if for some reason you don't finish all the changes before F2P hits on January 17, 2012, you might want to put a note for the new players. something like 'charts are still works-in-progress, so if they look incomplete or inconsistent, they are'
Did you know that the underside of the Hope class is showing the Olympic instead?
yeah... yeah i see it too. and not just the underside, the pylons, the nacelles, even the saucer (and quite possibly the neck, if that class has that option). in fact, it just looks like an exact copy of the Olympic was put in place of the Hope
if you can squeeze that fix in Spidermitch, that would be great
What's QTF? I can think of a few things this could mean, but I'd get in trouble if I posted them here. LOL
By the way, I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a listing for the ship prices in Dilithium?
I know I can go to ESD and get all the prices, but I was wondering if someone already had a breakdown of them? It would be far easier for me to reference as I go through the charts and make the changes!!!!
Lemme know if you guys know of a resource. It'd be very helpful.
So, I'll be the first to admit that I've been focusing more on the FED changes than the KDF changes. This is apparent in the current versions of the chart (don't worry, I'm giving the KDF chart some love right now!) But I seemed to have missed a little info that significantly impacts KDF players:
Tighter Klingon Storyline The Klingon game play was tightened up to play starting at level 21, so that the whole experience for Klingon play is improved.
I knew they were getting rid of the Lt. ships, but not the Lt. Cmd tier!
So, my question is what is happening with the Lt. B'Rel, Lt Cmd Somraw / Quldun / K'Tanco ships? Did I miss something about them being merged into other tiers or something? I tried searching the forums, but it's next to impossible to get official info with people offering up their own ideas. The myriad Dev blogs don't go into detail other than the line I saw above, and the consoles of various ships. Looking for someone to let me know soon so I can make the corrections on the KDF chart....

Thanks for the new updates to the charts. I really hope you are able to add this next batch of ships as I suspect we won't see any new ones for a while. By the looks of things this will pretty much round off the ranks and give a level of consistency across the board.
