If you were charged for voting then I guess we are playing 2 different games. I don't remember anyone charging me for participating in that poll so I'm not sure how you were charged a fee for participating in it and contributing w/ your vote.
Just to answer that you did pay a fee, you have to pay a sub to post on the forums. ( at least at the time of the poll, not so much anymore with free demo )

Don't forget Beta and open beta, they were also free. But nevertheless I wasn't charged for participating on that particular post. I wasn't aware that the forums required a fee to post. All I have ever paid for was my game's sub which allows me access to these forums but I have never had to pay strictly for forum access. The way I see it the forums are free but require you to have an account so that people who have nothing vested in the game can't chime in.
PLease realize that nothing we say here should be taken personally by you or any of the dev team. After reviewing everything you have listed above, I give and and the team credit.
You have all spent alot of time and energy trying to get things to where they are. For that we are all thankful. But I think you have glossed over the fact the at the end of the day, there are alot of us that feel that Cryptic has not acted in good faith or given us what we feel is the value that we deserved for the monies that we have spent.
To explain, I don't think you can argue that the game was not complete at launch, lacked serious content and had more non-canon material than canon. Fixing bugs, adding polish, fleshing out content and making the game playable, while admirable, was expected, not something to be credited for.
I understand the point of the C-Store. I don't particularly like it, but I knew it was going to be there going in. I have even made several purchases, but before the Galaxy X purchase, I felt that they were all transactions that were not neccessary, but just fluff. I think where most people feel betrayed, as I do, is that for every bug fix, there is content added to the C-Store. For every new piece of content, another C-Store update. While this is all fine and good, it does start to drag a bit. Add to that the fact that the whole point of taking a poll for what we would like to see in the way of ships never included the fact that they would be monitized. Now knowing what the polling system is for, I will no longer use it. As a former player of table-top rpg player, I feel like I'm having to buy every book that I'm going to need to play the game effectively as a seperate purchase. That is not how any MMO that I have ever played works. While Everquest 2 now has the "Station Store" up as an attempt to generate supplemental revenue, they have tried to make sure that the game is playable without that content.
While you nor anyone else may want to admit it or acknowledge it, trying to classify the Nebula and Excelsior Class ships as premium content just does not fly. I have 5 different MMO's that I pay a monthly sub for as well as buy the yearly expansion for without uttering a foul word as I feel I am getting value for my money. I dilligently do so as the development teams give me almost monthly content updates, so I support them when the yearly pilgrimage rolls around.
STO is barely 5 months out of the gate and the most anticipated and desired content is being monitized while still not having fixed the base game itself yet. If this were 18 months from now, this might leave a different taste in our mouths, but it's not. Don't take this personally, but right now this content is stuff that we feel we are owed for the monies that we have spent. As of yet, the value scale has not swung in the consumers direction.
Again, please don't take this personally, just as the honest view from here. I really do feel for you in that you have to deal with us as I do know where the decisions are made. But please let them know that the money grab for my wallet is over.

now I'm done with this because this seems to be an attempt to derail the thread.
So you're telling me that he can directly insult me by calling me a crazy hypocrite but I can't make a general statement about the obvious lack in judgment used in not even considering the possibility that the poll might be used for marketing purposes?

What I can't understand is what is going to happen when the sub base dwindles based on these types of issues to the point where LTS outnumber the paying monthly players. At that point the LTS players are going to have to LIVE in the C-Store unless Zynga buys Atari...

Don't even think of suggesting a boycott of the c-store. That would get this thread closed.
Also, please try not to cause a flame war on this thread, it would also end up with it beeing closed. This thread size alone serves to show how UNHAPPY we are with the Excelsior and Nebula on the c-store, so let it become the biggest of threadnaughts.

Sorry but you are wrong. If ypu plan to quote me please be accurate. My exact words were
"Secondly, I myself have no issue w/ the ships going on the C-store. I never blamed those who bought the GX for wanting it or ranted against Cryptic for putting it up so I don't see how I am a hypocrite. I merely said that if you folks hell bent on blaming someone for this move want a target you should look at those who bought the GX for showing Cryptic that it was something people would go for. If the Ent J goes up I'll def buy it as I said, so go ahead and toss some blame of me if you want for letting Cryptic know that I would gladly avail myself of the service should a ship that I like be introduced."
I myself am not blaming anyone for anything and I even admit that I would gladly follow in their footsteps if there was a ship I wanted. So again, how am I a hypocrite?
I also see no need to defend my viewpoint since it is exactly that, MY view point. I never asked that you or anyone else agree w/ me. I do however find it interesting that some of you claim an open discussion and talk about how opinions should be respected however when I make comments that some of you disagree w/ I am personally attacked. To me that seems hypocritical.

I also believe that most everything on the C-store is actually cosmetic when you boil right down to it. The sole exception to this currently is the Galaxy X, and once the Refits come out with Season 2, I believe that imbalance will be corrected. Additionally, according to the vast amount of player feedback, The Galaxy X as it is not not currently out of line with the rest of the ships in the game.

Not true, if you're specialized in cruisers and want a cloaking device. You either cough up $25, or get forced to fly an off-spec ship (escort with cloak).

Enterprise-J wouldn't make any sense. Starfleet still is working with the Ent-E, so if the Ent-J class was around while the Ent-E was still working, it would mean that when it finally came the time to comission the Ent-J they would have to use a REALLY old class of ship.
Dont foget there would also be an Enterprise F, G, H, I....all before we get to J.

Not to mention numerous bug fixes, and other minor changes and polish weve made based on your feedback. Were already hard at work planning Season 3 for you right now as well! Almost all of the things listed above have been things that you, our community, has asked us to make happen for you. I personally feel that the Dev Team is doing a great job of pushing out content that you all have been asking for, and at a bang up pace.
However, Im also seeing that you guys would like to see some more customization updates included in the next big update. It may not happen for Season 2, but I will make sure to pass that along to the Dev Team so they can keep that in mind as theyre planning Season 3 and beyond.
Thanks,

These are all things that you should and would do WITHOUT the C-store. Dont patronize us into thinking that Cryptic is doing something special when all you are doing is what should be your jobs.
as for this thing about the excelsior, if it happens and we don't have a way to get it in the game. I'm not sure If I will even care anymore. I hope they do the right thing, but from storm's answer it doesn't look that way. I would post what his post was really saying to us, but that would not be right.

+1 in agreement with everything you've said, as i know several other have said
cryptic, next time you want to conduct a poll asking your player base what they'd like to see in game, for the purposes of adding content to the c-store, then i will expect to be compensated for my time.
zodi, props to you for daring to suggest that ships be purchasable for merits, but given how money hungry cryptic is perceived to be........ well don't hold your breath.

Oh i agree, but I don't blame the devs. ( the true devs the ones who make the game not the people who do the marketing ) they are kind of the victims in this just like us. They are stuck in between marketing, and the accountants. the worst part is marketing and the accounts mess up, and you don't see them on the forums cleaning up their mess. No I don't blame the devs, I blame the marketing accountants, and leadership.
it saddens me that the game is getting ruined by people who are most likely not star trek fans.

Look, without being profane, rude or anything else bannable, (I hope...) this is what it all boils down to:
I just don't see the problem with paying $2.50 for a borg boff. Every thing I've seen in the C-store has not had any effect on the gameplay that I payed for when I got STO. Some items are priced a little higher then I would like but they are still just extras. If they were to charge 1000cp for the Nebula because it did well on a poll would just be greed however I see no problem with charging a few dollars for some extra bits.
II see no problem with charging a few dollars for some extra bits.
Exactly!
$25 for the Galaxy X was out of bounds IMHO. 800cp Approx $10, would have been far more realistic. I fear what the price is going to be on these 2 new ships. If they are skins 240 CP MAX.
f they were to charge 1000cp for the Nebula because it did well on a poll would just be greed however I see no problem with charging a few dollars for some extra bits.
that is the whole reason why they are putting it on the C-store, it is what people wanted. as for charging a few bucks for a skin, or a lot for a whole ship, well that is part of my fear. if it is a skin then it is not game changing, but if it is a whole ship then it is game changing, and these two ships will have no way of being able to get them in the game. ( canceling out the game changes effects ) I also fear they are ships because unlike the Nebula, the Excelsior has no tier 5 ships to share common group. ( meaning a group where they can change parts )
I want then to do one of three things.
1. add in a hybrid system where you can exchange merits for C-store points. ( it would take a lot of merits )
2. tell us that they are just skins, and explain how the Excelsior fits in to that. ( mean the cost would be smaller, and not game changing )
3. or come out clean and say that they are getting ready for a free to play model. ( if they did that then I'm sure the STO players would help them get ready for it, but it is better then pulling the rug on us )
and if they think it is bad now, just think about what would happen if they ignore this, and release the ships for 15, ,20, or even 25 bucks. ( the price that you would have to release a full ship like that ) this thread would be a yell compared to that outrage. I hope they change it before it comes that.

If they charge $2,50 for the excelsior or the nebula, than i'll rest my case.
If they charge $25,00 for the Excelsior or the Nebula.. then i might not openly and actively bad-mouth and attack the game.. but if someone that never played it asks my opinion about the game, i'll have some truths to tell them...
These two "products" will be nothing more than a few thousand polygons, some bytes of texture and lines of code, just like the Comet-class and the Imperial-class. But the Comet-class and Imperial-class each cost less than 300CP. They took the same time to make.
Telling us that the price behind these c-store itens is 100% to cover the time spent making them is, and i am sorry if this will sound harsh or unpolite, a foul lie. The Galaxy-X is a kitbashed Galaxy model with two extra powers, it wasn't harder than the Comet or Imperial to make. Then why did it costed almost 10 times more? Simple.. because people would pay that. I don't think anyone would pay 2000 c-store points for the Comet.
This is not conjecture, and am not assuming anything. This, is the truth behind the lie.
I can imagine some years from now, when someone is talking about STO:
"-They cut off 10$ of the game and offered one extra month of subscription only one week after the game released.
-Yeah, and remember how they charged money for canon, fan favourite content just because they knew that people would pay whatever they charged?
-Sure..It was like Pandora Box.. once they found that people would pay for that sort of canon thing as long as they were labelled as Cosmetic.. then all hell broke lose."
$25 for the Galaxy X was out of bounds IMHO. 800cp Approx $10, would have been far more realistic. I fear what the price is going to be on these 2 new ships. If they are skins 240 CP MAX.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that the c-store is completely bad, the problem is the way cryptic has chosen to relate to it, and release content through it.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that the c-store is completely bad, the problem is the way cryptic has chosen to relate to it, and release content through it.
And where in my post does it state that I am AGAINST the C-Store?
I don't think anyone is suggesting that the c-store is completely bad, the problem is the way cryptic has chosen to relate to it, and release content through it.
Hell, I wasted words defending it while they were saying it would just be cosmetic.
Now they're even trying to claim things that do have gameplay effects are just cosmetic... I thought you were better than that, Stormy, I really did.

Just to answer that you did pay a fee, you have to pay a sub to post on the forums. ( at least at the time of the poll, not so much anymore with free demo )

Not at all sir.
Ok, fine, you win.
That's for a laugh too...
Not true, if you're specialized in cruisers and want a cloaking device. You either cough up $25, or get forced to fly an off-spec ship (escort with cloak).
I agree, also what about the energy lance I can't get that in the game.
Yep, I agree. Very well said MarkStone.
Dont foget there would also be an Enterprise F, G, H, I....all before we get to J.
These are all things that you should and would do WITHOUT the C-store. Dont patronize us into thinking that Cryptic is doing something special when all you are doing is what should be your jobs.
Fool me once, shame on you!
Look at the size of that thing, and imagine that flying around sector space.
as for this thing about the excelsior, if it happens and we don't have a way to get it in the game.

Nothing more, nothing less. This is just how we feel, and it is the last I will speak of it. G'night all.
$25 for the Galaxy X was out of bounds IMHO. 800cp Approx $10, would have been far more realistic. I fear what the price is going to be on these 2 new ships. If they are skins 240 CP MAX.
I don't blame you I'm also getting tired of it also.
that is the whole reason why they are putting it on the C-store, it is what people wanted. as for charging a few bucks for a skin, or a lot for a whole ship, well that is part of my fear. if it is a skin then it is not game changing, but if it is a whole ship then it is game changing, and these two ships will have no way of being able to get them in the game.
I hope they change it before it comes that.
anyway I'm going to bed, good night.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that the c-store is completely bad, the problem is the way cryptic has chosen to relate to it, and release content through it.
And where in my post does it state that I am AGAINST the C-Store?
Hell, I wasted words defending it while they were saying it would just be cosmetic.
Now they're even trying to claim things that do have gameplay effects are just cosmetic... I thought you were better than that, Stormy, I really did.
