we're not going to have to buy these through the C-store are we?
I love the ships and all the ideas you guys have for them but I can't afford to be paying 25 bucks a ship every month.
While the budget dept says we have to sell these... I'm looking to see if we can do hybrid pricing models for some of these so that you can purchase some with Starfleet Merit OR pay Cryptic Points for them. It involves fancy spreadsheets where your time getting the merits in game makes the bean counters look the other way.
As most of you should know the Excelsior, and the Nebula are coming to the C-store, and it mite be coming soon with the new C-store update that should be out by the 19th. I love the fact that the Excelsior is coming, becasue that is one of my favorite ships from Star trek.
But here is the problem Those two ships are loved by a lot of people. the polls results were 3553 for the excelsior, and 2647 for the Nebula, and those are just the people who come on to the forums, there are more out there who don't post on the forums, and they will be shocked to see their favorite ship added to the game. Problem is your adding two of the more popular, and most wanted ships to the game and you are going to force people to pay for it, in turn you seem to taken advantage of people's love for those ships, and I think the bean counters know that they are doing that.
I quoted you from one of your post earlier because that right there is the answer. This would be the time to add in a system where you can exchange merits for the ships. you need to push to make the merits equal to the their C-store equivalent. that way people who don't want to pay real money can work hard in the game and earn the ships.
added to what I said it would look a lot better on your part. personally I see this as a boarder line money grab by those bean counters, and you guys are stuck in the middle of this, but you can do something about it.
So what does anyone else think about this?
post your grievances, complaints, complements, concerns here, and lets get our voices heard before they release it to the C-store. ( before it is to late )
EDIT here is a good price exchange between merits and C-store points .
Re-posting this because occasionally I do make a useful, informative post and it gets buried ...
Well respecs are the place to go to figure out an exchange rate.
20 to 30k merits = 500 Cryptic Points.
Make it 25k, split the difference. So 50 merits = 1 Cryptic Point.
40,000 Merits = 1 TOS Constitution.
100,000 Merits = 1 Galaxy X.
The Excelsior and the Nebula can fall in between that.
EDIT and for anyone who was wondering where they said it was going to be on the C-store.
Here's a few things I've seen on the C-Store dev schedule...
Costume Slots
Bridge Officer Slots
Ship Slots
Bridge Packs
2 New Ships from the ship poll (excelsior/nebula)
No dates on when they will all be available yet - but those items are in the works and will be here sooner than later.

I for one aint gonna buy any of the ships they gonna try to peddle for 25bucks ill be happy to buy skins and cosmetic stuff but i myself will not bend over for buying 25 dollars of somerhing that dont eaven exsist cause some marketing department think they found a way to print their own money.....
If i was a trek fan (like me ) i wouldent touch the ships unless they where skins...
I'm sure it makes money and all, but it doesn't help their PR any. Every time I see something released in the C-Store I think "this game still doesn't let me scan things, but there's something new for me to buy?"
There are a few things that make sense as MT, from my perspective, like the additional char slots, and cross-faction species (Fed Klingon), but emotes, ships, bridges, uniforms (with maybe th exception of the mirror one) seem like gouging rather than anything else.
I agree with that, that is one of the Pros of adding it to the C-store. on the other hand if you tick off more people, and they leave that is less monthly income that is coming. so I say offer it two ways. pay money or work really hard in the game. that way you get most of the people happy.
added to that I would work hard for it in the game just out of pride.
What I have a problem with however is how most likely these will also be Admiral Ships, they really should be Captain ships. Afterall Neither the Nebula Class or Refit Excelsior are as powerful as a Sovereign or Prometheus and their ilk. But they were on Par with the Galaxy Class and Defiant, not to mention people are getting tired of everything catering only to the End Game. This is the kind of stuff that upsets new players, and Cryptic quite frankly cant afford to alienate new customers.
I allready bought most the stuff in the cstore except the FULL ships im oki with skins and such since it dont make any diffrence in game play ,wich makes 2 class of players one that can afford to buy the advantages and one that cant.... for me its not about the money its about splitting up players into have and have nots....
They can do it so they still win, just make it cost a million billion energy credits, that way people will pay for two additional months just to work up the in game funds to but it.
(btw, that was sarcasm) ( lol )
Other than membership fee's which seem to be shrinking daily, this is the one thing that keeps Cryptic afloat, thus, I really don't care if they charge $10 for fluff, btw, no one's forcing you to buy it. You just won't be playing with that fluff is all.
I would do it. I would work hard in my free time to get the credits to buy the ship, and in the end I would get the ship, and a sense of accomplishment. I'm not sure about other people.
They could do it if it's also available through hard work, plus those were the original rules of the store. If it changes gameplay and is on the store it will also be available in game. So either spend an hour at your job getting direct funds for it or spend twelve hours in game getting it, either way cryptic gets more money and you get the item.
Wow are you serious?
Some would argue we "should" have everything for free.
The Majority of MMO's don't have microtransactions.
agreed it does keep it afloat, but as someone else posted they are added CANON ship to the game that most likely should of been in the game before the other NON canon ships. added to that they are highly loved ships.
You may be able to tell from my display picture but I wouldn't have anywhere close to enough patience to work for the excelcior.
As i said they should be SKINS and cosmetic thats what the cstor was about not giving ppl with money an advantage over ppl that cant afford it.
Whether it's a C-Store purchase or not, I'm just happy they will finally add these two popular and iconic ships to the game.
Tell you what, if this game turns into a Free to Play game like the rumors suggest, then I'll ban together with all the lifers to argue that fact. Until that day comes, I'm more than happy to pay for fluff.
More and more they're putting in non-vanity items.
I did expect it to come out in C-store, like most extras cryptic gets out, but it's still saddening when he said he'll look into making players be able to acquire them either with real cash OR starfleet merits.
Oh it is coming here is the source.
and soon to by looking at the calender
Your sarcasm isn't working because many of us do spend money to be in this game. With the economy the way it is, it's becoming increasingly difficult to justify such a casual expense. It also isn't working because subscription fees (inherently) are believed to be what funds a game's development, but somewhere along the line, people in suits decided they could stock their pockets some more and began dictating the direction of games (read: SOE). This is another classic example.
They gave us a poll and it seemed to me that the pretense was that we would be getting these ships in-game, not in the C-Store (by opening the poll to the whole subscribed public). But in the end, we've come to learn that the budget department was simply finding out what ships we would be most ravenous for so they could charge us for them.
Bad form. Period.
As i said the GALAXY X in the cstore and the way it got sold to masses was a mistake i refused to buy it , i still want it cause its a good ship but the way it was beeing pushed as a ship and not a skin is in contrast to why the CSTORE WAS MADE so this is rapidly becoming another bluder for Cryptic i think..
This selling of the galaxy x made the marketing department take notice that ppl actually would pay 25 bucks for a ship in game....... so this is our own fault ..
No Im afraid C-store stuff is just greed, which is easy to sell when you have people so blindly support it whom also seem to forget most of us all pay Subscription fees or in some cases a few hundred dollars for a Lifetime.
Ten times the cstore or ten times season two? If it's season two I want in on that mmo, lol.
if they come in a tier 5 that would be foul. excelsior is over 100 years old and nebula is around 40 or 50. but if they wanted to put them in cstore for people of lower tier that would be ok.
It's extra support, subs are one source of income and the store is another. It's not like every penny made on the cstor is going into the CEOs pocket and they aren't using any of it on the game. It doesn't even make sense from a greed standpoint because if you use store cash to help the game you get more money later.
I remember that time too, and oddly, most still are developed solely on subscriptions. Go figure.
With the economy the way it is? If that's your excuse then you should be elated your helping the economy, since every dollar spent allows the Dev's to keep their jobs. Furthermore I stated that subscription is waning big time, thus, paying for C-Store items is REALLY keeping this game afloat more than you think. There's even talk to make this game Free To Play by Stahl. The subscription thing isn't working out as hard core as the Dev's would like.
And as far as the poll is concerned, BIG FLIPPING DEAL! You should have known by now that every new fluff content would be put into the C-Store, this shouldn't be a big surprise or shocker to you and if it is... I don't want to offend, so don't take this the wrong way, but it's a little gullible to expect it to be free.
