are you kidding? 800 cp thats like 7 dollars versus those of us who went out and got cryptic 225 to get the ship get real
I hate to be blunt about it but that was YOUR choice. It would suck for you if it went that way but it shouldn't have any impact since you got referrals because you enjoy the game so much and referred five friends that you know will love the game, right?
If the ship does not remain exclusive who in their right mind would ever try to get referrals for Cryptari again? Sorry folks, there's only one way to get it, ever.
Voted no, mostly because it's incredibly hard to find up to 5 people interested in the game. In WoW you only had to recruit 1 friend to get a special mount...
Now I do realise that for recruiting 1 person you can get really good goodies already and overal the referral program is really nice, but everybody that I know and wanted to try the game is playing it already.
I might give it away as a present to my little brother but I doubt he'd keep playing it in its current state since he's not such a die hard fan as I am.
Its tragically funny that people are mostly taking part in the program because they want the goodie. Not because they are actually bringing in friends or they think the game is really good.
You whine that the Galaxy-X should remain exclusive because then there will be no reason to refer ?
What, other than having 5 of your friends playing with you and getting free goodies as well ?
Oh no, we cant have those items on the C-Store because then maybe those who actually refer will do so HONESTLY or at the very least do so as a way of getting Friends into the game AND getting the goodies.
Nah, the current way just has people refering and shilling to anyone just to meet the deal requirments. After that we just dump those folks we refered cause we got what we wanted. Who cares if they dont stay or find the game woefully boring.
Cryptic should be aware its not a good idea to market the game before it can satisfy its CURRENT playerbase nevermind adding more. Especially when the CURRENT playerbase is made up of those that have stuck around from the beginning. Yeah, these are your loyal subscription paying customers giving you feedback which indicates this game is poor but rather than try to improve it Cryptic decide to market it via those paying customers.
However, expecting common sense from Cryptic and Atari is the height of stupidity at this point when they keep doing these stunts.

This is pretty much how I view things, especially with the 5 referrals for a new carrot. I won't be surprised if a lot of referrals were done using the method you say, doing and saying anything to get people to play and sign up purely so the person can get their new carrot. Short term gain for Cryptic and increases their figures on lots of pretty charts I'm sure but long term it will do more harm than good. That seems to be the way things are done around here though...

Tbh, the actual idea and setup is good.
I do however agree with you that the game isn't really ready to promote it to friends and get them to sign up. Right now I'm afraid that I'll get ****ed off friends after they find out that when they played for a month there isn't much to do anymore, content wise.
I'd feel like the devils advocate trying to sell the game to them right now. :-s
I'm a loyal fan and player of STO, but I value my social relationships more then potentially ****ing off friends who lost money to a game that can't keep them interested long enough.
Needs ro remain exclusive. Hell im going to have mien by june 25th, i got 3 to sub, my wife to sub, and bought myself a extra acct. I will have my galaxy x, and i want it to remain exclusive. For people who do the work to get it, that woudl be a **** in the face to be offered any other way, and would take a big base of trust away from cryptic.
Wait until you see what Cryptic will have you do for the newly voted "most wanted" Excelsior.
I'm not TOO worried about this happening. The Galaxy-X didn't have nearly the clamor for it that the Excelsior-class has had. Trying to make the Excelsior some sort of carrot for which you have to jump through out-of-game hoops for would be an extremely bad decision on Marketing's part.
Now, if they put the Excelsior on the C-Store? That would tweak me a bit.
I have absolutely zero confidence that it won't be.
Oh, it will almost certainly be in the C-Store. Of that I have no doubt. And so, tweaked I shall inevitably be.
It would be much, MUCH better to have it unlocked by an in-game mission. (An RA5 mission to a lost Starfleet shipyard that's been overrun by Borg.) But if it'll be available via the C-Store, I'll live with it.

*sigh* Indeed. So much that could be done to add content around cool things instead of just selling them, but that only gets a possible, hard-to-calculate increase in sub retention rather than a tangible cash sale...
Here's how you can satisfy the referral requirements and not cheese off your friends: Buy their copies of STO and offer to pay the 1rst subscription payment to meet the Galaxy X reqs.
If they wish to cancel after that because they are bored, they have lost nothing and you haven't lost your friends.
This man is giving "Gifts" to his friends, like offering a free weekend at a timeshare... if you like it you buy in. He's paying anything between 30-45 per person. I bet his friends will reciprocate with at least this much in drinks / other nice things over the next 60 days anyway... so he looses nothing.
I do think the ship should remain a "5-Referral" thing.... some will call it a badge of honor, and some will call it "the Albatross around your neck" whenever you fly it. Either way, Enjoy.
P.S. I can't afford to do it for ffee, but I'm making friends by helping people buy the game for airtime cost. Can't beat that, can you?

Nice if you have that many friends and a good enough job to afford that. No way could I afford to do it and I bet quite a few others are in the same boat at the moment with the way the worlds economies are. I still disagree with ANYTHING being exclusive, especially if it has the cloak and cannon people mentioned (more punch and a first strike ability no other fed ship has).
If the ships in the game were already balanced, then you would have a point.
As is, this ship and it's benefits will allow us "weekend warriors" you know the people "with jobs that let them afford this" who don't have the time because of this and just like to come on occasionally and stand a decent chance against Klingon and Sci ships that dominate PvP.
If Cryptic wants to keep the Klingon and sci ships unbalanced like they are, then adding other ships that are better than average is a good idea.

Those ships you perceive as unbalanced are available for use by everyone in the game. Why aren't you just using one of those? Turning this game into one where money wins isn't the answer.

Actually, it's not people with the money. it's the people who are (a) bring more cleaver and recruiting, and (b) dealing with all the people who want to play but never pay. So far I know of two people who made the grade: Cygnus-X-1 and myself. Cygnatus gave away 5 million e-credits (a small price), and I chose to play middleman on game copies. Neither of us were using real money, and anyone else could do the same.
I would like to see more Galaxy-X's out there, but you'll have to work for it. No free lunch, and no buying it with cryptic points. After all, more players added to the game is exactly what is needed for the long-term health of this game.

Um... congratulations on getting other people to pay your $225 for you?
It sux its not there for everyone, but it should STAY exclusive.. just give the rest a new ship to play with.
If they take this and put it into the C Store like they did the original Enterprise then I and a LOT of others will be be ****ed off to put it mildy.. they would lose all respect from the players that have either done the hard work and refered 5 friends, or paid out of thier own pockets the 5 retails and 5 months.,. either way Ill be super ****ed if it happens !
Its listed as exclusive, keep it that way, but throw a bone to the rest of the players as well.. but then if they wanted it so bad either refer 5 friends or buy it 5 times over... hope it will remain the only way you can get it.
Though when T6 ships come out no one will want one

It has been brought to my attention in another thread that a Dev did in fact call the Gal-X exclusive. That said, Cryptic has already explained themselves that they only consider "exclusive" to be a temporary term, so that hardly means anything anymore

Well I've been told regarding the MU uniform multiple times by people that it doesn't matter what the Devs say outside the official advertisment. So in the spirit of this, it does not say Exclusive on the refer a friend page in regards to the Galaxy-X. But it does say so in regards to the Holo-BO.
So its fair game. And as you say, 'Exclusive' means nothing at all anymore anyway.
Yea true, Exclusives obviously are not exclusive.. so kinda useless point
Still, I hope they dont do it, they will lose 1 sub right up, my wifes one that she doesnt play, but I keep paying for for the odd times she does play, and Ill try my hardest to get any refs to stop paying

Ill be soooooo ****ed.
Obviously some people will be upset, and that is a shame. However, the real question is whether the amount of people who would actually cancel(rather than just complain) would equate to more money that the purchases of the item from the store. It would be interesting to know how it has panned out with the recent C-store additions, though Cryptic will obviously never give us that info. I have no doubt that some people canceled over this, but I also have no doubt that alot of items have been sold.
On the long run that was a bad business call in my opinion. In the short term, it will make people try to get referals like crazy because everyone wants a Galaxy-X. But on the long run, Cryptic will be seen as a company who teased and tempted its customers with a "arguably" fan-favourite ship reward for doing their job for them.
In my opinion they should have created something special for the referal campaign, and not a canon ship. Galaxy-X should be on the C-Store for 800 c-points, just like the original connie.
