yeah thier "diffrent " aka crypic couldn't figure out a way for them to be true borg.... which would have been easy.
Making (near) invincible enemies is probably easy indeed.
Of course, I rather enjoy winning from time to time in a game.
And if I see a borg cube, I still go "I'm doooooomed!" I'm not such an amazingly skilled gamer like you, apparently. Already made rear admiral in head start, did you? Waw. I've been playing since head start too, and I'm captain/3 now. Maybe it's because I try to enjoy the game instead of grinding it to death... who knows...
Pull your head out of your TRIBBLE, if you actually like STO in its current state then go back to playing donkey kong or some other atari piece of ****.
If you hate STO so much, why don't you go back to playing whatever it is you like? Wouldn't it be weird if those who liked it went away and those who didn't stayed so they can complain about it? So, shoo! Leave this game you think is so horrible! Scotty, one Draconianknight to beam wherever!

not talking about close to invincible just ones that follow cannon thy could have given the borg what I call the adapting ability basically its this:
You fire a phaser at a borg ship drone whatever it takes damage.. you fire again it takes less.. each shot does less because they are slowly adapting.. not as good as cannon but better then the borg having no resistance at all... also this means u have to change weapons. Seeing your disruptor not doing as much switch to a phaser.. in space u cant switch weapons which means u need to hit them as HARD as possible as soon as possible.. something picard should have done in his first encounter. So fight them to long guess u will be in for a long fight...
I would hope that you would consider it to be similar on how World of Warcraft is....the Death Penalties in City of Heroes (forgot what it actually was called) made it very hard to enjoy the game.....because if you fell into a bad group....then you died....well....you have that Penalty put against you...and you fall into Xp debt.....that is why I left that game and never really came back.
I love the game so far and have enjoyed lvling......good luck for the future.
So, I'll begin by saying that I don't visit the forums very much. Probably not nearly as much as I should considering how much influence they potentially have on the game itself. In my defense, I have a job that keeps me away from home for long periods of time and as such don't even get to play STO but for a few hours on two weekends out of six (case in point, my highest level character just hit Lt. Commander).
With regard to all of the other points mentioned in the State of the Game memo, I think it sounds good. As always, there's lots of potential given the source of the game. I'm a fan of Star Trek from TOS through DS9 at least with a smattering of Voyager. Couldn't get into Enterprise because I just felt like they changed some things that didn't need changing.
In the same vein, I hope that Cryptic will carefully consider the changes they make and finish the content they add before they add it. The Federation President said it best in Star Trek VI:
[/CENTER]"Let us redefine progress to mean that just because we can do a thing, it does not necessarily follow that we must do that thing!"
And as a last note, I don't know what the final tally was for the death penalty, and I do sincerely hope that someone did tally it, because from what I've read in this string alone, there are more people that don't want a death penalty than do. I have to throw my vote in with the people that don't. I can't put enough vehemence behind this. As I said, this game has potential. It also has some issues that need addressing and from the State of the Game post, they will be addressed in time. Please don't add grinding to an already long list of troubles.
I could say more, and I could say it in far less civil terms, but I'll leave my post as is. If it even gets read, I think it will effectively convey my feelings.
I'm glad that they're implementing some sort of death penalty; where's the challenge without consequences?
Also the only other MMORPG I've played was EVE, and I suspect the STO death penalty will be far less severe ya nancies .
ROFL, I can just imagine the face of the average fanboi...losing his ship because he just f***ed up. Priceless...
But yeah, game's REALLY not designed to do that.
The death penalty isn´t good for occasional players, like me.
i have childrens and very little time to play( i´m lucky if have 30-45 minutes day to play), and i´m Spanish, one of the few who play this game, and i buy a Lifetime subscription anyway.
i don´t want to get a penalty if i fall in action, because sometimes i must leave the game a moment to attend my son (10 months)or my daughter ( 3 years) and in this time i don´t are in front of my monitor i can be murdered, and if i have a penalty is a problem for mine.
I think i´m only one in a lot of people, but this is my opinion and i must tell it.
If Cryptic is going to include a death penalty, in order to bring more realism to the game. I think you should be penalized for certain actions, such as ignoring a priority distress call. Or losing a battle you should have won, such as having your light cruiser destroyed by an enemy frigate. It may mean more work for the GM's, but I don't think everyone should be penalized for every instance in which they lose their ship or die on an away mission.
First I've played justa bout every major MMO out there, including the 2 most severe for death penalty.
Ultima online - potential loss of all items on you.
Everquest - (deleveling & CR's) and often huge grinds to return you to where a bad play session, bad group, or even lag, landed you.
Sorry, but neither of those even come CLOSE to the death penalty for EVE, which is total loss of everything you had with you, including the ship you were in, any implants stuffed into your brain, and potentially a portion of the skill points you had trained at that point. At times that even included points trained prior to your last cloning, when many people had far more skill points invested than the best close could preserve.
"Ship interiors, more bridges, crew quarters, First Officers, Fleet advancement..."
WAHOO........Finally got the ships interiors, crew quarters and hopefully the rest of the ship to explore, or will have I hope.
I don't know why this enthused me so much when i baught the game. Finally getting off the bridge and explore my own ship. Mabey put in some adventure there too (hint hint).......
I can recall some episodes when the Enterprise had to go back to spacedoc and retrofit its systems when they where badly damaged.
That's the thing, though, the Enterprise captained by Kirk didn't blow up (ok, but not often). Kirk wins, and on the rare occasion that he loses, he runs back to Starfleet to get his (not totally destroyed) ship repaired and improved so he can go back and win. When the Enterprise has been destroyed, it was part of the story, it was a HUGE thing, and there was always a replacement ship (even if it was a stolen BoP) to at least get him home to pick up his (free) replacement Enterprise.
Death Penalty does not fit the Star Trek universe. It is a kludge for MMOs that needed some kind of money sink to consume the excess cash players were accumulating. I don't know about you, but I don't have any excess cash in STO yet. Maybe after I am an RA with six of "everything" I'll consider whether STO needs a money sink.

STO isn't about challenge, it's about fun. It's also about people who in real life may have responsibilities, even if you are not that sort of person. People who have kids, who may have to leave the computer at a moment's notice to care for their children. People who have wives/girlfriends. People whose computers may TRIBBLE out in the middle of a fight, or whose internet is less than perfect.
Death Penalty for people who live in the real world, as opposed to their mom's basement, with a personal fiber-optic internet connection and a computer built by some high-profile manufacturer, is punishment for being a complete human being with a life outside the game.

Why is everyone so worried about the death penalty??? Seriously a lot apparently never saw what it was in Beta and it at least in Open beta was having to use merits to replace crew. At RA 5 I have over 100k merit that sits there and does nothing. It's not like they are going to pull skill points from us, it's not like money (if that's what it ends up being) is used for anything. This is not going to be an end to the casual player, it's a needed money sink or merit sink. It's a way of making consequence for dieing, with out consequence how do you learn and that applies to everything in life. There are a lot of us that are not just parents with casual game play style, there is just this balance that needs to be bridged between all of our players not just one side. State of the Game addresses this, everything they do has complaints all over the place.

Why?
No, seriously, why?
No more content at the end? Start over with another character and try other skills and ships and...
You are either
a ) trolling, in which case, good job
b ) insane ...THERE ARE THREE CHARACTER SLOTS
I'm afraid insane is what best describes me...
Right... not a lot of character slots... sorta forgot about that.
Never mind then. Yay for endgame content!
Agreed. A few additional character slots allowing us to have characters of all classes would go a long way right now.
I accept your apology and call off the hit squad.

"What you had to do, what you always do. .. Turned death into a fighting chance to live."
Yes, it REALLY IS.
Ok, show me how that means that Kirk had to go back to Starbase 1 and buy a new ship and I'll print out this page and eat my words.
H... h... hit squad?
*nervous*
Raise shields! Evasive maneuvers! Warp 9.9! Hide in a nebula! Don't panic!
Don't worry, I called them o...hmm...wait a sec, need to make a quick phone call...
