Okay, so I've been using the Wineskin program for more than a month, and its worked great (Thank you so much), but now when I log in it goes to patch and just hangs around 85.9 percent. I tried to download it originally and it caught at 90% for the full patch, but nows its 85% of 75Mb. My mac is relatively old, approaching 5 years, but its been working fine ever since I download it the first time. I have 60GB of space left on my HD so I know thats not the problem. Any suggestions please?

    Hello, Im new here.

I recently downloaded this wrapper to try Star Trek Online.
I have some limited experience with Wineskin and CX wrappers. But limited to "pre-made" ones.

I successfully got the game working, and logged in, everything is working fine.

I was just wondering if there was any way to get joystic compatibility through this wrapper.

I want to use my XBox 360 controller (Wireless with USB receiver).
I have Tattieboggles XBox 360 Controller Driver version 0.11 installed.
But, ive never successfully managed to get any Windoes emulation wrapper to see it.

I have learned of a program called "x360ce", but Im unfamiliar with it, and cant get it to work that way.
"x360ce" is an emulator for windows apps to see most/any joystick as a XBox 360 controller in Xinput, remapping the connected controller to make the running app think its recieving commands from a XBox 360 controller via Xinput
It's a Windows program and some people have successfully used it's config files to use their XBox Controllers in ported wrappers.

I could use ControllerMate to remap the controller to keyboard input.
But, that's and undesirable prospect as it usually results in "clunky" control.

Also, BootCamp isnt an option for me, because I dont have the HDD space spare to dedicate to another OS.

    Any help would be great.
I'm sure Im not the one one that would like this.

    Thanks.

    Hi Guys

Anyone else having trouble with the launcher since the start of this week?

I have been playing STO using the wine wrapper since the launch of F2P and have been very happy with the performace so far.

However since Monday I have not been able to get into the game, the wrapper launches and I get the usual black screen with the launcher in the top left, however where before the laucher was displaying properly I am now getting a white square with about a quarter of the blue 'window' bar at the top and nothing else.

Has anyone else experienced this, any ideas how I can fix it.

I have tried re-installing STO into the wrapper but this did not work. Before re-installing I was able to launch the gameclient.exe file directly and bypass the launcher but as there was an update needed this wouldn't let me past the login screen.

Thanks in advance for any help

I discovered that sometimes OS X is asking permission to allow the app to accept network connections, and this holds up the loading process. It helps if you don't have it full screen so that you can find the message box to dismiss it. As soon as gave it permission, it moved on.

Is there anyway I can make it so my in-game video settings aren't reset every time I close the game?

it shouldn't lose them... are you using CMD+Q to just kill the game, or are you exiting the game properly?

I set up the wineskin last night and just finished downloading the patch. I engaged STO and it loaded a cryptic page and then a STO logo appeared, and after a long time on that window I started to hear startrek theme music, it then crashed. Suggestions? Also upon engaging it told me it didn't recognize my graphics card and asked if I wanted to run with lower settings. I'm just wondering if this is a known issue and how to get it right.

    I'm running a 15 in 2010 Macbook pro. 2.66 ghz i7 Intel HD Graphics.

    Thank you!

When you see the login screen click on the options tab and check mark "Safe Mode". Then push login.

It's now just crashing every couple minutes. I have safe mode on am I missing something? Also should I be playing with the defaults or play with the slower settings like it suggests?

Since you are using an Intel HD graphics you should run on low settings. Intel graphics are not known for their stability or performance, even on windows, and you are running a wine wrapper that could bring more issues.

My brother had a dedicated grapahics card on his Mac and he sill crashes at least once every few hours. Transferring to ESD/Starfleet Academy/DS9 also increases his chance for crashes, even on half resolution.

It would be great if there was an official Mac version, but this is an unofficial version so dont expect to be able to play with out crashing some times.

    Hi Doh,

Is there any reason to update to the latest version of wine and wineskin?

Will you be updating your package with the newest releases?

    Thanks.

you can test some out.. I tried one of the 1.4 RCs a few days ago but only for a few minutes.. but it was running good.

If you want to update this wrapper to a 1.4... you'll need to get the newer engine through Wineskin Winery, change the engine out through Wineskin.app, then before you run the game, since sound problems are fixed with 1.4, launch winecfg and go to the libraries tab and remove the mmdevapi entry. If you leave that entry in there with a stock 1.4 build, there will be no sound.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    Solution to no sound above.

I'm going through moving to a new city, and starting a new job... I haven't had any time to look at this in a while. Eventually I'll try to put a new one together, but even the newest builds with Wine its still a bit buggy and doesn't run much better.

I read over http://forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?t=87214 that you can change this to make it work for Champions online, and am thus attempting to do so.
Open the folder, Control-Click on the Star Trek Online.app, and select Show Package Contents

Now go to the info.plist file and Control-Click on it. Select Open With and choose TextEdit.

    Search for :

    <key>Program Name and Path</key>
    <string>/Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Star Trek Online.exe</string>

and change the Star Trek to Champions

Save and close the file. (You can also change any instance of Star Trek in this file to Champions, but it really isn't necessary)

Now open the Directions.pdf in the STO Unofficial Mac Beta folder and follow them (substituting Champions for Star Trek of course) I did the copy over windows installation technique so YMMV with the install from scratch method.

Close all open windows then double click the modified Star Trek Online.app Select Use Default Graphics when a dialogue box pops up.

Wait patiently. It may take some time to do its internal set up so just leave it alone for a little while.

Eventually the Log In window will show up and you can enter your account name and password.
I am up to the Directions PDF, and that's where I'm stuck, just not understanding how to do it.

It seems we no longer need to use safe mode. Don't check safe mode this time and you should be able ti play again.

This was a Cryptic error, nothing to do with the mac version, it affected Windows too. They have fixed the issue.

Just a warning, sound doesn't work if you update the wrapper and engine (did it by mistake) but the game will perform much better.

Also, is there a way to allocate more memory?

I tried the WS8Wine1.4 Engine yesterday and it works well, created a new bottle and didn´t upgrade an existing one, no sound issues ftw. I had to winetrick install the ".NET 3.0" (3.5 doesn´t work) package and IE8, otherwise the options tab from the launcher won´t work. Am not sure if I need to install additional DX9 dlls tho. There are some graphic bugs with water effects and certain nebulas and planet rings. Also the game crashes at high populated social zones, as usual. So if anyone tested that, give me a clue which DX9 "trick" to install. I kinda don´t want to mess around.

The best part of 1.4 is the fast UI besides all the graphics options. It will still drop FPS when you have UI elements open, like the inventory but the loss isn´t extreme and somewhat game related it seems.

I installed it and it started with the startup screen only in the top left hand corner of the screen. It fixed itself when it got into the actual game, but when I tried to play again later, it stayed in the top left hand corner and I couldn't reach the fullscreen button because it was off the screen.

WS8Wine 1.5.0 is out and Wine 1.5.0 has some STO specific fixes. Will you be updating the wrapper?
