If anyone here has "Little Snitch" or something similar. Turn it off. And when the login screen pops up. Click "Options" on the top and select "Safe Mode".

Installing worked after a few tries, or at least seemed to (no errors showing), but then there's nothing that allows me to run it. Instructions say "run Star Trek Online.app". Okay, I open it and it just gives me the "ability" to install it again, nothing to run it. When I go to Advanced and try a test run, it comes up with what appears to be fatal errors.
if you run it and the Wineskin menu pops up again, that means the set EXE file is not being found in the wrapper, so it cannot run.

Make sure you installed it correctly... and go to Advanced->Config tab and select the main EXE in the wrapper if you installed it to non-default locations.

no idea.. I've never tested or looked at voice chat... i didn't even know the game had voice chat...

Just to let you know I found out now to work with it, in case you want to use voice chat when your with friends or a team. You go to your OSX Utilities Audio MIDI setup to set what ever device you want to use the input from by right clicking a item in the side bar, then use for sound input and it should work.

Downloaded this at the end of last week and installed it and it seems to work really well. Thank you.

My only question really is that some of the character textures don't seem to appear correctly, for example my Trill BO has no spots, and the scars and tatoos don't show up at all on anyone. I know this is likely be to do with a setting I have but was wondering if anyone else experienced this knew how to fix it.

Again I'm really pleased with wrapper and can live with this very minor issue but if there is something I can do to improve this that would be great.

    Thanks

I just tried it on my 2008 macbook and it runs really slow.

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Memory: 8 GB
    Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB

I am a free to play subscriber so I had to download the actual client with a windows machine (I downloaded it in virtual box.) The new "installer" (the downloader for the installer) uses Pando media booster that does not play well with wine, however once it is downloaded it the actual installer (setup.exe) can be used by the wineskin. I did not change any of the display setting until I ran it for the first time. Running it for the first time will take a long long time on the loading screen, about an hour, after that it will load quicker. I did not choose the lowered graphics settings when it complained about my graphics drivers being out of date. I didn't test everything but everything seemed to render and work fine. But it was not really fast, can't command tab out, and it turned my screen more blue. But I use windowed mode I just have to be careful about double clicking the top.

So, I decided to start playing again, what with free to play and all. I download 1.3.2, and move the files over. After a hiccup or two, the launcher starts downloading the patch. After quite a while, it finishes. I hit "launch" and the game attempts to load. After the Cryptic logo the lens-flare star trek logo pops up, and after a bit it starts flickering, slowly, then fast, then slow again. The logo disappears, then my mouse starts flickering while the intro music plays. Stays on a black screen, even when left alone for nearly an hour.

    Anyone else have this problem?

9400 is very very low end.. not surprised if it runs bad.
No you cannot command tab out because the screen is captured for sole use. There is a built in short cut key to toggle out of the locked screen... Cmd+Opt+a will knock it out, and also back in to the normal captured fullscreen.

I have the same config as the previous poster. MacBook unibody (not pro) and it runs perfect! Only difference is that I upgraded my HDD with a 7200RPM HDD. Game runs excelent. Have no issues with performance whatsoever.

Got it too work. Video problem, I think. In screen options in the wineskin app, I switched it to my native resolution, then got on STO via safe mode. Bumped the graphics back up, and it works now.

Has anyone successfully tried this on a MacBook Air? I'm thinking about trying it, but I didn't want to go through the process if folks have found it to be unusable.

    Thanks!

Hi, hate to be a pain but I'm confused.

    I downloaded Wineskin.

I also downloaded the unofficial STO folder.

When I double click the STO application, it takes me to wineskin and asks me to install a windows software.

The instructions say to use setup.exe, but I have absolutely no idea where this file is.

Please bare in mind that I am not exactly a computer whizz, and that whoever chooses to help me will need to "dumb it down" for me!

    Thank you

Depends which one you have. If its one of the ones with a Geforce 320m, or a Intel HD 3000, then it *should* work ok, at lower graphical settings. Other Macbook Air models I doubt will work, or work good enough to play.

.exe is an executable file for Windows. The setup executable is the program that installs STO in Windows. You have to select the file so it knows where it is and will run it.
The executable file you download right off the STO page is NOT the actual install executable. It is a program that you run in Windows that downloads the actual installable for STO for you. This program doesn't work. Others here in the last couple of pages of posts have said they found other places on the internet that let them download the actual game installation files. Some people have used the STO downloader program that you get officially on a Windows machine and downloaded on Windows. However you choose to do it, you have to find and download the actual full game which is really big with multiple files... then use the setup.exe that comes with that to do the actual install inside the Wineskin wrapper.

    Well great.

The cross loader free time ran out for me and then everything went down the drain. I tried using your wineskin again with the same lack of actually installing problems. I then downloaded the wineskin winery and tried to make some basic skins. They worked up until it came time to patch where it just refused to do so. Feeling like I knew a little bit more about how the process worked I re downloaded your version to try and give it another try. Zipeg got stuck at 99% replacing the third or so version I had already. I forced a quit and decided to delete everything and try again from scratch. While deleting the half replaced wineskin, it decided to make instant copies of several applications and throw them in the trash along with some HD files. I caught this, and removed everything that wasn't a copy (mostly pictures and a song) I deleted all the winery, and wineskin files. The major problem is that Google Chrome, Reason 4, and some other programs got magically deleted as well. My screen is permanently a light blue color like when I messed around with the screen hue a little in the winery. I want to kill myself now.

    os 10.6.6
and some gear that should have no problem handling the game, I listed it in an earlier post.
I understand if you can't really help with any of this, but I figured I might as well try.

Thank you for responding so quickly, I really do think you're a trooper.

Is there any way we can chat using some IRC or chat programme? As much as I read what everyone tells me, I still need to be guided through this process. I'll try and find the entire game, but it will be difficult because as you said the direct download from the website doesn't work for iMacs, all I seem to get is a word document with a bunch of confused letters.

    Hi!

I have installed the game on a Early 2011 iMac, but I have two problems:
    1. The game takes several minutes (10-15) on the "Loading screen" (the screen with Star Trek logo at start)
    2. When I am in areas with many players, the game lag (not graphic lag, but network) and the game becomes unplayable.
These problems are mine or there is a solution?

    Thank for any answer. :)

Hi - Just to confirm that I finally managed to figure everything out and I downloaded it!

Now, after the load screen is on I get an immediate cryptic error - Was there any solutions for this?

I'll have a read throughout this thread in the mean time.

    UPDATE:
I have successfully installed the game using all your guides and walkthroughs and your incredible wineskin programme. Thank you so much!

Ohmygosh I read your above post and have the same problem with the setup file as well! I'm also the same as I have to be taken through step by step process. If you wouldn't mind helping me, we could chat on some IM thing or something and I would really, really appreciate.

    Please, please please!

    And thank you. :)

try downloading the full 3.5gb game below... it should be a full install and have the setup.exe in it.

Just want to say this worked great. Wasn't working at first, but i read that if it was stuck at the logo loading screen (which it was) to set the wineskin to Safe Mode in the options somewhere a couple pages back. any ways keep up the good work!

First let me say it rocks to be able to play STO on my mac. I'm running into an issue though everytime I run it. I can play for about 20-40 mins and then it crashes. Any help would be apreciated at this point, I'm using an iMac 2.66 GHz i5 with 4 gigs of ram, ATi Radeon HD 4850 videocard and 10.6.8 with all the latest updates.

    Thanks for the wrapper!

I, like many others, am able to get STO to run almost flawlessly with Safe Mode enabled. However, without it I struggle to get the game to run, which is annoying as it means I have to keep resetting my video options, but that's no big deal really. If I start the game without safe mode enabled then I get stuck on the logo loading screen for 5-10 minutes, and then I get a black screen with all kinds of horrific video artefacts; unfortunately I can't seem to make it from here into the options menu so I don't know if it's just that the graphics settings are messed up.

Anyway, can anyone clarify what exactly safe mode does? Maybe it can give some clue as to why the game runs correctly with it enabled, as I'd really like to be able to have persistent settings, perhaps if I edit them manually then try with safe-mode disabled? I'll have to experiment (with plenty of backups!).

I've had a few crashes, but strangely they always seem to be while attempting to drag inventory items around. Specifically when dragging them onto a character or my ship in order to replace an item. It doesn't happen consistently at all though, and wine doesn't seem to generate any useful debug information. I'm curious if the particular crash is one that PC users suffer at all?

Hello everyone. Many of you have helped quite a bit with issues I'd been facing, but this one is one I haven't seen addressed quite. I've booted my macbook in safe mode to be sure, changed useGLSL to disabled and vise versa, and have checked safe mode at the log in screen. As soon as I click engage, the screen goes black and then STO crashes. I've messed around with my res settings... Still, nothing seems to work. Have I missed something? The very first time I tried, I made all the way through the loading screen with music but then my mac froze. I haven't even gotten this far since.

Thank you anybody that may be able to help (or tries to).

I don't think its gong to work at all if your Mac is in safe mode... when people say safe mode, they mean STO being in safe mode, not your Mac. After you log in you click Options at the top of the window (before pressing engage) and select safe mode.

its part of the game install... you have to go to fileplanet and do a full download of the game.

Hey, I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing issues with dragging inventory? I've had the game crash a bunch of times now when doing it; not consistently at all mind you, usually happens when dragging something to an equipment screen after I've been playing for some time. As a precaution I've been resorting to double-click to equip (since the right-click menu option isn't always there?) but that's no good for ship inventory where I want to replace a specific item.

Anyway, I'm trying to work out if it's a global STO issue (do Windows users have this problem?), a Mac/WINE issue, or something unique to me. Also, can anyone help me generate more useful debug info from WINE, and let me know where to find it? I've tried running in debug mode/test-run but I don't get any information about the crashes from that.

Lastly, what's everyone's performance like versus Bootcamp? I'm on a dual quad-core 3.2ghz Mac Pro with 10gb RAM and the NVidia GeForce 8800 GT (512mb), so performance is actually pretty good under WINE running at the first notch on the slider, with lighting on high, high-detail objects and post-processing switched on. I can run some areas on higher graphics settings, but I'm let down any time I visit a busy area (can't help but wonder if it'd run better without all the other players :P)

Under Bootcamp I can run on much recommended settings, again I can run on higher but not if I want to visit crowded areas. So the performance under WINE is a bit behind compared to some other games, but not too much. I'm wondering if there are any recommended video features for running under WINE; for example, I find I get slightly better performance if I limit my framerate to 30 fps under the Troubleshoot heading, it also eliminates my GPU's annoying fan.

Yeah I also get the crashing with the drag n drop from the inventory. It's pretty random when it is occuring for me.
