Great news coderanger, thanks a lot!

Doh123, Gatewayy, inspected the fleet creator and we need 5 of us in a team before we can create one. We will have to arrange a time to get together and create the 'Federation of Macs' :)

well, lets set up a time.. if yall are serious. Not sure about the name though....

Mac Fleet? Macintosh Fleet... Mac Group... Mac.... something.. I dunno, just "Federation" doesn't seem to fit for Starfleet.

Mac Feds? make fun of Mac Heads? :-P

as long as its nothing related to the iPad... I hate that name... I saw they release the iPad, and the first thing I wondered was if it was cheaper at CVS or Walgreens.

    Cult of Mac?

Downloaded the client and it works great on My 2008 MBP. I don't notice any slowdown or worse graphic quility. The game does give me a warning at start and I tell it to use the default settings and not dump it down. To me, it looks the same as when I play it on win7 on the same computer.

Some questions- I use rootless mode. Sometimes when I am moving my camera around with my mouse, my mouse seems to leave the game window. My hidden dock pops up, or other UI elements from the mac part activate. Sometimes I think the game loses track of my mouse while moving the camera around and it gets crazy jumping around and looking straight "up" or straight "down" Not hard to recover from. But strange. Does what I describe make sense? I'm finding it hard to describe. I guess the simple way of saying is that when i'm moving the camera around with my mouse I sometimes move the mouse off the window. I *think* that is what is happening.

Even with that minor problem this works great. To any other mac users who having tried it I higher suggest this unofficial mac client. Its fantastic being able to play the game w/o having to leave MacOS!

besides AA not working... I have all the other settings up really high and it looks fantastic too, and still usually over 30+ FPS.... so its fun for me. Most people assume cuz its Wine that it must be horrible, and think its half as good or less. I stop worrying about it, and just play and have fun :-) the major lag in the Mac version isn't because of Wine, its because of Xquartz.... well I guess that is because of Wine, since Wine only uses X11, so no choice there.... there is a wine quartz driver, for natively using Mac OS X windowing system, which would be MUCH better, but its very basic at the moment... can't handle 3D... and the few people working on it aren't putting much time into it it seems. I looked through some of the code, but dang... I wouldn't have a clue where to start...

I haven't played much in rootless, I like my fullscreen.

here is a test to see if it changes anything...
inside the wrapper, run WineskinSettings.app... go to Advanced and Wineskin Tools. Select to run winecfg. When winecfg starts, go to the Graphics tab and put a checkmark in the option about letting DirectX apps prevent the mouse from leaving the window... then hit OK... and exit back out of WineskinSettings.app when it shows back up. See if it works any different. Might be worth leaving that on as a default setting in the wrapper if it doesn't cause any ill effects, which it shouldn't.

test it out and see... you can just copy it off of your Win7 partition and test how you like it. Its never gonna be as perfect as running under Windows, but it does run really well, and can stay in OSX.

I guess if we post our character names and pick a time for us all to be on it wouldn't be hard to find five to start.

This can't be much worse than the ATI banding issue with all the 27" iMacs in Windows 7 64 bit. :D

While I don't plan to use your app, I wholeheartedly applaud your hard work and effort in creating it. Hopefully many folks get to play it (that otherwise wouldn't) thanks to you.

holy TRIBBLE i'm beyond excited. I've gotta comb back through the thread to figure out how to make this work.

I currently run fine out of bootcamp on my MacPro Tower, but have been tinkering with the idea of pushing STO through VMWare on my MacBook Pro.

If this works as well as everyone's saying... there are no words :)

    Thanks for the App.
Right now it is the only way to play the game for me, much more stable than running on windows itself.
It seems STO is very picky about the state of your windows system, and wine gives a very standard system.

Eventually I will reinstall windows on my computer, but I am not looking forward to installing all the software (eve online + a lot of eve tools).

You can count me in for this fleet for sure. Ping me next time you're in game. Going to download your code and give it a try now. I'm on a new 27" iMac i7 so I'm curious to see how it runs. Will let you know!

EDIT: Getting an error from Mediafire when I attempt to download the porter. Says the file is broken or missing. Any ideas there?

I'd like to humbly suggest using a free DropBox account for file posting. It's always been reliable and blazingly fast for me and it doesn't require you (or the person downloading) to purchase a premium service to get access/fast downloads:

Looking forward to downloading the porter. Thanks!

I've been using Mediafire a long time, and have tons of stuff on it... don't feel like trying to switch everything as of yet... I have more stuff I store than Dropbox free... it limits at 2.5gb, and I already have more than that on Mediafire (serious about having a lot of stuff, mediafire is unlimited space). Need to look into a better paid service... just not the richest person in the world, living in tons of student loans debt.... and realyl dislike the idea of multiple accounts, or using multiple services.

I've double checked mediafire and it seems to be fine right now... but I know occasionally there is problems. It is a bit slower than normal, so they may be having some issues.

    its just an organization thing....

When there is a good stable running really good version here soon, can put it on multiple mirrors for people... or you can stick beta 2 up on a mirror as well. I would like to be able to track amount of downloads though... beta2 has 113 downloads so far.

Thanks for the App! I'm going to take a look at your Wineskin project, this absolutely rocks?

How much time did this take you to pull together?

Cryptic: Pay this man/woman some (nominal) amount of cash, and let him keep a "mac" version of this game up to date. I'm certain you'll get a boatload of users, like me.

I'd be willing to test this on my MacMini (it's the latest version of the MacMini as of this posting), but I'm not really interested in playing it on my Mac because my PC is so much faster and actually cost the same amount of money to build. *shrug* Only reason I have it is that my day job is iPhone game development.

I started Wineskin about... 6 months ago. A lot of people were hacking Cider and Crossover to make wrappers for games... I thought it would be nice to have an easy to use solution that used all open source tools, not hacking commercial stuff.

current RC6 i used to make this has a fullscreen bug.. it wont work... I fixed it for STO. I have it fixed in RC7 too, and have some more improvements, like working around Xquartz RANDR limitations and have Wineskin handle resolution changes called by the windows programs itself instead of the X server doing it... working pretty well. gonna get it finalized and a version up for people like monday or tuesday... and RC7 should FINALLY be the last release candidate, and I wanna make a 1.0 .... too many RCs with too many last minute feature changes and bug fixes, but hey I'm learning how to do it and making it all up as I go :) its just a hobby.

I seriously doubt they'd pay, or compensate me in any way, and I wouldn't really expect it. Maybe some in game reward/title would be the most... or a refund on my lifetime? :-P but its just for fun, and I like to help out other Mac users.

When i get the new version out (with better resolution handling)... and CodeRanger gets the more permanent fix for /renderscale done.... it will be a really good way to play....

I just cant get AA to work. I can get it enabled, so the game thinks its there, and try to use it, but it never really works... the slider just moves and pretend it works. I think it need that main AA to work right for the fonts as well, so they look better at lower res... but I may be mistaken.

    Doh123, thank you, this rocks!

Game works great, other than the whole renderscale thing, which isn't too terrible. I don't need to do it for each zone, just during first startup. I am running it on a unibody MBP 15" with 4gb of RAM, 2.8 Core 2 Duo with the dedicated graphics chip.

One issue, for me the App doesn't launch consistently. I get the bouncy icon and I have to force quit it. If I open the package and run Wineskin and launch it from the 'Test Run Wrapper' button, it works much more often. Usually I need to kill all packages once or twice to get it going... Didnt seem to have this issue with beta 1.

    Thank you again Doh123!
