If you want to sell your story that's fine. Get a commission.
Studio pays you, then you give then ideas that they can make into a marketable product.
But once you've set that idea out into the ether, you gave no claim on the minds of others. You have no right to usurp the ability of others to change, develop and improve upon the ideas that they've acquired.
Freedom of speech is a right. Intellectual property holding is an entitlement.
"Freedom of speech"? Seriously?
Consult a dictionary next time. Freedom of speech just means you can't be arrested by the government for speaking your mind; it has absolutely nothing to do with intellectual property rights, or for that matter the doings of non-governmental organizations or persons in general.

Oh, make no mistake, as I have said in other posts on the Mignogna/Doohan topic, the blame rests squarely with Axanar.
The overreaction is like one kid shooting a spitball in Kindergarten and the teacher making everyone in class put their heads down on the desk.

So you're telling me that if I go create my own star trek TV series and get it aired, that the government will never force me to stop?
what would going for a class action do? does the state pay for a lawyer in one? because unless it does, i still don't see the point in filing a suit unless you donated above a certain amount
The amount is irrelevent... The fact, is that Alect Peters misslead fans with the Prelude, and deliberately set out to profit off the back of the Star Trek IP... The fans were stolen from, they're entitled to restitution...
Another scenario as an example...
Someone gets your significant other to send nudes and indulge in sexting... They may not have literally gotten them into bed, but they're still crossing a line in regards lack of respect for your relationship... In such a scenario, would you feel that you 'don't see the point' in wanting to kick that person's a55, because they haven't actually banged your SO, or would you want to, to mis-quote one of my movie favorites, 'get medieval on their a55'...?
That's why people might want to sue, and as mentioned, the amount, is irrelevent to the violation of trust and underhanded dealing which they were subjected to...
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.
In the chaos of their battle, I bring order.
I am a shadow, darkness born from light.
The Force is united within me.
So you're telling me that if I go create my own star trek TV series and get it aired, that the government will never force me to stop?
Yep! Because it's not the government's job to enforce intellectual property laws, only to adjudicate in disputes over them.
But CBS and Paramount will bury you, because they aren't the government.

Saying it's about revenge and resentment would of sufficed.

Ever get the feeling some people are intentionally being moronic? Like posting c.r.a.p that has zero relevance to the topic and frankly hasn't the slightest resemblance to a response to something actually said.
Well have fun posting faeces... I think. 0_o sometimes I almost forget this is the internet.

The discussion begins about 20 minutes in. I'm still listening at the moment, but here are some highlights:
These are just GUIDELINES to avoid legal action.
These only apply to FAN FILMS, at least for now (audio dramas, fan fiction, fan art, podcasts are NOT mentioned).
You DO NOT HAVE TO ONLY BUY OFFICIALLY LICENSED ITEMS... you are free to make your own costumes and props.
If you DO purchase your costumes or props, they must be officially licensed.
Very interesting stuff, and there's a lot more in the discussion. They also mention that this week's ENGAGE podcast will have a Q&A about this with CBS.
The overreaction is like one kid shooting a spitball in Kindergarten and the teacher making everyone in class put their heads down on the desk.
When I was at Parris Island for boot camp, we had two recruits that did some really d.umb things. On both occasions, we ALL got punished. Neither one of them ever repeated their offenses, so clearly it's an effective way to discipline (and no, there were not any blanket parties ... unfortunately).

CBS is full of generosity these days. I am sure the Q&A will make all the disgruntled fans disperse away and help make everyone realise how good these guidelines are for everyone, including Trek. Only moronic mad person would refuse.

Well this thread is going places now. Not good places, mind you. And with unsurprising parties involved.
CBS remains correct in how they are legally defending their property here, and that's it. There is no need to go to any concept of violent behavior in describing their defense or a response to their defense.
Saying it's about revenge and resentment would of sufficed.
Nope, the scenario had to be outlined properly to appreciate the level of inapropriateness/betrayal...
Besides, posting the pic of Jean-Luc when Beverly started asking for child-support for Wesley, that's really irrelevant
You're comparing a IP property to sexting pictures of someone's spouse is relevant in what world?
The gif is from the episode 'The Drumhead'. And it has more relevance here than trying to create feelings of sympathy for CBS.

Agreed. I think it's time to call in a Exterminatus.

The amount of blind following in this thread is staggering
Your pain runs deep.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.
Because it's not the government's job to enforce intellectual property laws
Wrong. If its a law, its the government's job to enforce it. And if I'm successfully sued on the basis of that law, the government will take my TRIBBLE, beat me up, and ultimately arrest me. That is enforcement.
Under the status quo, we've restricted free speech in the name of intellectual property laws. We've misplaced our priorities.
When you have multiple children, like I do, and one of them does something in an area where all of them are present and you do not directly witness it and therefore cannot determine who did it (especially factoring in the fact that children are NOT honest) the only fair and ethical approach is to punish everyone equally.
No. The only fair and ethical approach is to punish none of them. An authority punishing an innocent party is the greatest crime of all.
BTW, if you made your own Trek show and tried to air it the government would not be coming after you, the owners of Trek would, the government would not be involved.
Really? Beacuse last I checked, Paramount and CBS can "come after me" all they want. Without government enforcement, they can't actually DO anything.

In that case, we've got no controversy.
The inapt application of your silly meme is indicative of a lazy reading or a stunning lack in comprehension.
