Is 2 DHCs or DCs still the maximum advised for a build to be effective?

I used to run 2 DHC's + DC + torp for more consistent DPS, and 3 DHC's + torp for more burst. this was the pre-leech days, where we had power management in play. Now, EPS and leech away.

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.

Of course if you are knowledgeable about PvE, DHC isnt the cannon you are suppose to use in PvE.

Could somebody pls explain to me why this is the case? Two of my 9 chars still have a cannon builds with 3 Dual Heavy Cannons in front. What alternative would be better here for general PvE and why?

Pax is talking about dual cannons with an extremely high EPS score. I think it was @sarcasmdetector or one of his friends that parsed and found dual cannons beat dual heavy cannons (it was talked about it on The SHOW podcast). It could be that DHCs are bugged and you don't get the innate CrtD when using CSV or CRF. Still, one needs crazy high EPS for it to work. If I was flying an engineer in an escort using cannons I would definitely use dual cannons over dual heavy cannons because of their EPS captain power.

DHC also drains more weapon power per weapon than DCs, -12 vs -10 per base power. But same base dps. DHC just doing more damage per shot, which makes DHC better for max one hit. Which makes DHC the choice for PVP vape builds vs DC.

I believe for cannons you need to focus your build on weapon power drain reduction and weapon drain resistance besides a bit of EPS rather than focusing on soley on EPS. Dont build cannons like beams. If one builds cannons as copy paste of beam builds by focusing only in overcapping/EPS like beam builds, that in itself is a build mistake.

It also helps if Cannons builds are hybrid, with one torp since it would reduce power management issues. Since statistically, torps are superior per front weapon in a TS3 vs FAw3. In all the 3 SCM 194k DPS parse, this is the case wherein TS3 neutronic is better per weapon than FAW3 AP DBB even without kemo/embassy consoles DPS.

Thanks the two of you for explanations. Well yea I installed the Emergency Weapons Cycle trait I got for my beam boats to one of the cannon builds and it defiantly showed an improvement. One with a bigger impact than on the beam builds even. When I get the 5th trait slots I install it on the cannon char I care about in space as well. Greedy Emitters is likely an option too here. Leech with flow caps is emphasised on all of my chars, yet the means to reduce the drain still seem to be a dominant magnitude for cannons, much more than I though.

Bugged Crit D on DHCs is just sad, still I don’t intent do get a set of new guns over it because the second I do Cryptic will fix it.

All the DPSers talk about proofs yet I still dont see HSE even FINISHED, not even talking about speed-runs, by a team of 5 non-tac and non-rom playes in DHC escorts...

No one accepted your challenge. Besides, you didnt also accept my challenge before you said your challenge, was you actually completing HSE yourself.

Of course if you are knowledgeable about PvE, DHC isnt the cannon you are suppose to use in PvE. But I suppose noobs like you, who pretend to be experts in STO Forums, dont know that.

If you want to see cannon HSE runs, you are welcome to come with us. Just dont be a dead weight for the team.

BTW thanks for dropping by this thread so I can reply to you. You are one of my favorite trolls in the STO forums that keeps me alive and keeps me replying in STO forums.

Haha this made me laught really well. I said I wont reply to your rambleing since frankly you are not worth my time, but I'll bite just this once.
Anyway... who the hell said anything about a challange? If you took it as one, your are deluding yourself. As me completing HSE... Of course there isnt a way as I want, with DHCs. Wich is irelevant to your "what your suppose or not to use" in a balance enviroment, as you claim it is. Same for what ever optimal or viable false reassons, becouse thats just cornering players no matter how you paint it. Its all about options... or better said lack of them. Like in other MMOs, a dmg dealer can be a mage, can be an archer or some other classes. Same as a tank can be a knight tanking via defence or an orc via HP pool. But you are a lost cause since you still dont get it that adapting should not mean cornering and forcing players to use only this or that...

And you are a relly big noob if you think DHC vs DC is all there is. The biggest problem of cannons in elites is the dmg drop off via distance since you have to keep a 5-7km safe distance and cant headbutt the enemy. And as for powermanagent (yes, differently via power drain)... it took well over a year of powercreep to came to at least same lvl as beams...

And again with the rambleling?? What STO Forums has to do with all of this?? Other that maybe the fact that the forum community didnt let themselves fooled by some DPS "challange" contest. If you think of it, as how many voters were for the 2 past pools about the carrier design, wich was around 2k, and the around 100 that bite that "challange", statisticly, its a 5% DPSers. Wich speaks higly of the STO Forum community imho.

Ohh and I must thank you too for your entertaining value lol

For those who wanted to see DHC's in action (minus my TRIBBLE-up's explained in the video description)... death hurts. BAD.
