Ummm... we barely have enough room on our UI for the powers we have now ... .

Speaking of which, I do wonder if more UI changes are incoming to deal with all the "awesome new powers" that Cryptic plans to heap on us .

... I would really be greatful if they'd add 6 more slots to the grid UI, as that vertical thingy is really annoying me ...

Ha! Trying to keep everything accessible is a challenge. I play on my laptop and have to keep all the HUD UI really small so that I can actually see what I'm doing. I may just give up and bring the large personal monitor I keep at the office home so that I don't have to squint to play.

kinda curious as to why im limited to cursing speculation threads and quotes from the vegas things instead of reading some solid stuff on the actual STO website about Delta Rising, i dont want to have to attempt to google up all the actual information for it from varying sources.

    I would appreciate some advice:

Is there point in buying any fleet/rep gear with the expansion coming now?

I'm really itching to experiment with some other fleet/rep gear combinations...but hate knowing it will all be vendor trash soon :(

I wish Cryptic would tell us if/how we'll be able to upgrade end-game gear.

The Wise choice is probably to hold back, and wait and see what they have in store for those of you who can afford Zen, or have the time for Grinding Dil to convert into zen.

The rest of us should sit back and hope that we won't be entirely outgunned when x2 hits.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Well , in the expansion that was introduced one year ago , they revamped the UI ... and they made the map button smaller .
    Yes ... , the map button .
One year later they remove what passes for exploration in the game because "players are getting lost" .

    ... I'm sure that was just a happy coincidence ... :o

Anyone who reads Star Trek Titan will know that the USS Titan's chief medical officer is almost a dinosaur :)

    Thanks for the info.

In any case, I bit the bullet and purchased the items I wanted.
It's a risk, but October feels far away and I want to enjoy the game in the meantime.

Incoming dismissal of anything soft canon in 3.... 2.... 1....
Which is ironic, as there are fans who would consider STO soft canon.

"Canon" is meaningless in the grand scheme of things anyway. It doesn't tell you what is or isn't in-continuity, nor does it even tell you what is 'fan-fiction' or not. It merely means 'generally accepted as genuine'... in other words, popular opinion.

I know some people will not accept it, however the creator of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry, stated that cannon Star Trek was anything put on film, and just to note this was before the internet and fan films so I'm sure those don't count.

Star Trek Literature is all that's left of the prime timeline.
For me, it's more "canon' than JJ's Trek will ever be :)

With the prime universe over, I personally consider STO the canonical continuation of the Prime verse.

Especially because I really enjoy many of the developements, such as the Romulan Republic.

Sorry, couldn't resist leaving this here. No really, that was a good one.

Laugh all you want...but he is right...CBS controls the rights and allows Cryptic to create the continue story of the prime-verse. Until such a time they change their mind on what the cannon is, Disney Star Wars style, STO is the official lore of Star Trek.

No more so than the official novel-verse (which now reached 2385 after some VERY interesting development) :)

BTW- I think that any Star Trek fan would really enjoy the Destiny Triology by David Mack.

LOL. Right. We had everything accesible before the new UI doff remake for example, everything was perfect. So , no its not a challenge. Cryptic just decided to make things worst, thats all. Cryptic never made things thinking on a practical use, they just make things thinking on a profit use.

    I agree...

Canon is why Joined Trills couldn't be transported and had Romulan head ridges in TNG but then had their alien-ness doodled on with a sharpie (when in reality what's-her-nuts was allergic to the makeup). Canon is why Data can use contractions when he's reciting Shakespeare and no one notices it. Canon is why Garak was forced to be obviously straight, rather than a total and complete space alien. It goes on and on. Canon...really isn't cool. It really doesn't have continuity, no matter what the die-hards say.

Although I would hesitate to call this travesty of a bastardization of whatever Star Trek was canon. Really -- every conflict is solved with phasers and torpedoes. CPT Picard would be ashamed.

Roddenberry likely put the emphasis on 'film' being canon, because he knew there'd be mucho deniro in licensing fees and he couldn't possibly have creative input on it all. He had to draw the line somewhere.

49 years later, in my opinion, there's a lot of 'soft canon' or 'Memory Beta' stuff that's better than quite a bit of 'canon' material. In this fan's lowly opinion, quality precedes celluloid.

Just because STO differs from my perceived notion of 'Star Trek', doesn't invalidate it, nor does it's creative license set it apart from anything else that carries the moniker.

That's incorrect. They changed the makeup because they thought she was too hot to hide behind prosthetics.

    According to Memory Alpha:
Although Michael Westmore's alterations to make the Odan headpiece more feminine was as good as all of his work, the writers simply didn't like it. Apparently, after she had put on the Odan forehead appliance, someone looked at Terry Farrell and said to Westmore, "What did you do to her head, she used to be beautiful?" Instead of changing species, as they'd already come to like the idea of an "old man", a person with centuries of experience to guide Sisko, Westmore suggested to "just give her spots like we gave Famke", who played a Kriosian in TNG: "The Perfect Mate". This make-up was used on all Trill afterwards.

This is actually in the DS9 Companion, and I expected Memory Alpha to have a link/source, but they didn't. Memory Alpha, you have failed me!

    No, that is a retcon.
Way to completely miss my point CPT Literal. I was trying to say that this so-called "canon" we look to has so MANY contradictions, thus can't be seen as accurate.

Anyway, yes, the transporter thing is an oibvious issue (also seen in ENT). And some are just incidental (like the way Klingons look). It just seems like too many people bank on this "canon" thing so heavily they choose not to see how messed up it actually is. This is due to different writers and different interpretations, I get that. There just isn't enough continuity to take to as seriously as some people do.

He's right. We've gone off topic again. So to bring it back in line with the OP has anyone heard when we can expect the first of the dev blogs?

Also a quick question since they're raising the level cap do you thing we'll have to respec each toon again or will they just drop the extra on top of what we have already?
Oh, it's not broken? We can soon fix that!

What day do they normally post blogs? Or is it just random and when they feel like it?

If they completely redo the skill trees I'd assume a free respec, seeing as how a ton would change. My guess would be another block of skills for the skill tree, or a completely new character progression skill tree. From what i could guess from the info given and put together from stlv, it seems like it would be a new class specific tree. The current skill blocks are all universal, I'd speculate that its going to be skills specific for tactical, engineer, and science captain careers seperately.

Pulled directly from the info dump of facts taken from dev's reveal at stlv. Can see that on the post for stlv q&a dump thread.

" New advancement system: "Beyond 50 level progression system". Progression in the system even beyond level 60. Specialization skill trees to add further character customization. "

Specialization skill trees makes me think more and more it'll be a seperate tree of skills thats engineer, science, or tactical specific for your character. It'd make more sense to leave current tree as is, since its universal for projectile, attack patterns, weapon proficiency etc. Maybe tack on a new block at the end for 51 - 60 for new universal skills.

You answered your own question there. They don't have a schedule because we'd actually look forward to it. Then if they missed one, they would have to be help accountable...oh GOD FORBID PWE does something to responsibly communicate with its players. We might actually enjoy the occasional hype-inducing teaser.

Maybe they expected the reveal and the things said at stlv to be an unofficial blog. Boy did that kind of backfire. People losing their minds. lol.
