It's regrettable in the extreme that no announcements have been made on these fora to confirm or expand on the CMs recent tweets.
Extremely unprofessional, in my view.
I 100% agree. Very, very sad that this company couldn't do such simple thing of, you know, USE THEIR WEBSITE, LAUNCHER, OR FORUMS TO ANNOUNCE SOMETHING.
People, get off of Smirk's back. He's actually helping us. He probably recognized that the overheads couldn't release the info or give him the okay to put up a blog, so he's doing the only thing in his power right now. He found a way to deliver the info to us some way. And here you are biting his smirky li'l head off for it!
Smirk did say in the recent priority one podcast that, perfect world are trying to change how info is put out to the player base, more livestreams an social network stuff. He also mentioned a change to the forums a one point. Thank you perfect world so much....
p.s. no hatred towards smirk or trendy as they have other commitments as well as stuff to do for 9.5, try an stay sane guys an see you on the other side.
Given the lack of a blog at this late hour and no patch notes posted. I'm starting to wonder we got trolled.
Someone give Smirk and Trendy an infraction for breaking the TOS! :P
Patch notes are posted around 4pm to 5pm PDT It's only 3:19 so give them a few.
As for giving them warnings - we can't. I've tried I CAN issue warnings to dev's however... (though I don't need a shoe thrown at me >.>)

Well it should be because I'm just going to criticize you. Did you read my post? No, you didn't. My point was that exactly how information is spread is entirely up to those spreading it. They don't have to abide by your conventions, they can do whatever the hell they like as it is in THEIR interest to spread the information as well as it can be. If they fail, they've failed their objectives and they're the ones most hurt by that. That said, they haven't. Even as a luddite you know about the 9.5 release date. A drop on twitter spread to the forums and now we have multiple threads dedicated to the topic. Its just a shame that its just fed into the cycle of self-indulgent tyrades that are typical to the forum format.
Like I said, this is going to be interesting.
Abide by my conventions? Dude, give me a break, those are their conventions. They decided to have them. Pray tell, why are they maintaining a website and a forum if they're going to share the information via prviate accounts on a multitude of social sites? I mean, since using your own information venues is so last year and not hip anymore, why not cut down the losses, right?
Following, one of my favourite quotes on the boards - "The forum only represents a small minority". Generally agreed that it varies somewhere between 3-10%, by the forum community itself on multiple ocassions.
So asumming the best, you release a season and only 10% of your playerbase is aware of the release date. And they haven't failed their objectives? Well, I guess not, if their objective was noone knowing that there is a season update in STO.
Furthermore, they haven't even announced it on Twitter. What happened was the someone tweeted Smirk a question, and the information was in Smirk's re-tweet. So what's basically happening is that STO has a season release tomorrow (or today in certain parts of the world), which is completely unnanounced and not covered. If that's not worthy of a facepalm, I don't know what is.
After all, if not rants about new information distribution channels being used over others (you have been aware of what's been happening over the last decade?) then it'll be about very situational engine limits or some other piece of fodder that'll conveniently allow you to maintain the most satisfying opinion to your self respect.
Nice. Classy. And you're acusing me of not reading your posts. This just keeps getting better and better.
I'm going to repeat myself, just for you. I have no issue with them using social sites or whatever other information venue they choose as long as that same information is provided via the official information venues of STO. I never said they should stop using tweeter of fb or whatever.
But if you don't understand the need and the professionalism to have important information (and a season release would count as important, wouldn't it?) for your business posted on your offical website and community, then you're beyond help. You're trying to defend the indefensible here.
No thought, no discussion, just a lot of posturing. That's the internet and thanks for providing a great case example.
Now either try to engage in some actual discourse (rather than reflexively responding to the mere fact that I have a conflicting point of view) or just ignore my posts entirely. My dissention isn't going to hurt you, and its only worth engaging with if its going to be a two way exchange.
Cease and desist with the arguments, you guys. I don't want to put my Evil Mod hat on today.

really should put this 9.5 crafting update on hold, i mean whenever it should of released before its being rushed. right now this whole thing has turned into a nightmare.

Oh fine, at least there's some form of warning... and he's not the one that decided to send out an unfinished product, or when. Still, he should show his bosses the tooth marks (or just the forums both in S9.5 feedback and this) and ask for more leeway to discuss things openly within the company's own forums. Especially when one person says something is in alpha and then it goes live with little to no revisions. Seriously bosses, look at the tooth marks... help the poor guy out, it's not like you didn't know what you were doing.

Give them a break...they've been trying to craft an awesome S9.5, but they can't afford the Catalysts so they keep getting Common or Uncommon with TRIBBLE mods instead of something better.
really should put this 9.5 crafting update on hold, i mean whenever it should of released before its being rushed. right now this whole thing has turned into a nightmare.
Every single update they do turns into a nightmare for the forum. This is nothing new.

It really does. They said it's in Alpha, so it shouldn't go live in that state. And given the overwhelming negative opinions........I have no idea what they are thinking.

I would just like to point out that 9.5 coming out does not necessarily mean they've implemented the new crafting system and they're rolling it out tomorrow.
They probably did, but as the Devs have explained before every new feature that gets introduced between now and the next major update is part of that season (or half-season).
So why don't we wait for the Release Notes and see exactly what we're getting before we get the pitchforks, eh?

Sorry blue, I just get annoyed when people try to justify something that can't be justified no matter how you try to spin it.
I think that the vast majority of STO players would agree that information such as Season 9.5 hitting Holodeck tomorrow should be communicated via the game's official venues first and foremost and then suplemented via 3-rd party venues if the Devs/CMs think it's important and useful, rather than the other way around.

Yes, we shall see. But given the majority of 9.5 was crafting and the reworks around it, the only thing I can see the patch would be is just the new lockbox and costumes going live. Not exactly a "Season" if you get my drift.

That would be quite funny actually. The start of a new (half)-season and what do we get? Uh... ahhh... uhhh..... nothing?

That's fine and all but I don't see them not releasing the crafting revamp tomorrow. What else have we been testing for this release? Pretty much nothing except maybe the uniforms.
Every single update they do turns into a nightmare for the forum. This is nothing new.
this one is probably worse then the others, the others at least had some form of organisation to let the community know. obviously tomorrow will be a tough day for the mods, ive had my fill of deathly slow forums and reference ids on errors to know for sure, i dont expect different and neither are you, in any event, with only social networking being notified, its going to be a very interesting update for sure.

Well I would certainly agree with that, I mean for god sakes the website is for the game first and foremost, so surely that's the priority?

If there's any secrecy going on, I would bet that it revolves around a new Featured Episode to continue the Dyson storyline. I'm not saying there is one, but that's the kind of thing they'd want to spring on players.
They'd have no reason I can think of for not telling us about crafting. They've been pretty vocal about that, actually.

Let's be optimistic, though, that S9.5 will just be the lock box and costume unlocks, as those at least have received little to no negative feedback while the crafting system and especially doffing/crafting UI have received a plethora. Besides, that is only half an hour to an hour and a half before we can go back to sharpening the pitchforks; perfect for rounding up the torches to go along with the pitchforks, as we don't want to do things halfway.
Plus, since it's a Season x.5, it really doesn't have to share the same volume of "stuff" that the actual Seasons have, right? I know, probably overly optimistic, but I decided to be stubbornly optimistic until reality sets in :P
