1.) New system, we all start at zero.
2.) New doffing interface, cool.
3.) Crafting, random outcomes that improve with your level.
4.) Regardless of skill, base costs in materials and components exist.
5.) NO chance of VR at early levels, although no chance of common outcomes at high levels.
6.) Components you manufacture cost dilithium. 5-20K dil. each.
So - you can spread 10-20K and get fleet or rep weapons ONCE per weapon, with guaranteed quality and capability
-or-
You can spend 20+K dil on a random TRIBBLE item, many many times, in the hopes of a random outcome.
So instead of reducing the Dil cost which was the biggest problem with crafting, they make it even MORE expensive.
Well done Cryptic...well done.

The Dil costs are potentially massively reduced. It's that potentially aspect that sticks out like a sore thumb.
If you were actually getting that Mk XI VR item you wanted - then the costs are reduced. If you could get that Mk XII VR item you wanted...it would be a Hell of a lot cheaper than in the current system.
So much potential for awesome there!
Course, when you're trying to get that VR Mk XII item that you want...you could end up with an Uncommon (Green) Mk XII item with a mod you don't want.
Let's all reach for the Excredrin for the /facepalm that goes with that WTF, am I right?
Meh...
Tom: Do you want some ice cream?
Jerry: Sure! Tom hits Jerry.

Wow, OP. That's a rather one-sided post. But I'm sure it wasn't at all intentional that you left out the fact that dilithium costs don't come into play until you begin level 10 projects. Also, the fact that there might be some wiggle room with the costs themselves before 9.5 goes live.
That's okay, though; I took the liberty of mentioning them now. You're welcome!
I don't craft so I don't care how much dil they charge. I do look forward to being entertained by rage posts over the dil prices.
Same here.
And what with this "pay massive dil costs to gamble on maybe getting what you want" bit, I see nothing in the future to change it. I'll just grab some popcorn, watch the rage posts, and pray for the moderators' sanity.
The prices do seem way too high for random rewards, but I dont take too much notice of first versions that appear on Tribble. I suspect changes will come, because of they don't then people just won't use the system. There is no reason to make a system that is inferior to what we already have.
The UI on the doffing side of things also needs some work, but again I suspect it will be refined a bit.

Regardless, there should not be a Dil cost associated with anything but something guaranteed as VR or UR. Or if that is going to be the case increase the refinement cap from 8-.5k/day to 20k/day. Besides no one will do it for a chance item when they can spend 10k more and get a rep item with a set bonus.

Couldn't agree more.
The random bonuses part of this whole thing is the main sticking point.
No way I'm dropping hard earned Dil for random when I can save just a little more and know exactly what I am getting.
This revamp fails completely once the "random" factor is added.
I really hope they rethink this before it comes to Holodeck.
Also on the flip side most didn't mention. They are axing the Dil Store at the same time.
Well bigger Dil sink FTW.

They dropped it to Tribble to give folks around a month of time to test it. They even dropped out Redshirt knowing they'll be dropping other patches while this is being tested on Tribble.
Folks need to hit up Tribble and test it - give them feedback in the Tribble area of the forums, in the various threads there...
That's what scares me the most- sinks only work if they actually soak up whatever they're intended to sink. They clearly intend this to be a sink. When, not if (my own expectation) simply removing the Dil store doesn't goad people to craft, craft, craft- what other ham-handed measures will be implemented to try and force Dil into this sink?

If you've got better gear or want different gear...then this is not a sink. It's just an alternative means of acquiring gear. You spend Dil at X, Dil at Y, or Dil at Z...you're not spending Dil at XYZ - since you're only going to be able to put a single piece of gear in a single gear slot.
It's just an alternative means of spending resources one may have...it's up to them if they want to spend them there.
A 200k Dil chromed kitchen sink that folks just absolutely feel they need for their starbase...heh, that's a sink.

And how many tries might it take to get the piece of gear one wants for that slot in this new "random affix lottery" system? Like I said- sink.

Depending on the piece of gear, it could be pretty bad. If one's trying to make a console though? They're not only making them cheaper, they're making better consoles.
7935 Dil to make a Mk XI Rare Field Gen in the current system.
5000 Dil to make a Mk XI Field Gen in the new system - where, based on your skill/DOFF - you've got a good chance of getting a Mk XI Very Rare Field Gen for less than a Rare Mk XI in the current system.
We can focus on the bad, need to focus on the bad - but we can't overlook the good. There's some nifty stuff there that's going to cost less and reward better.

Thankyou, didn't see that as of yet. My eyes were blinded by the dil costs.

Could n0t agree more except how long do we spend at levels <50? seriously? 2-3 days?
I guess the changes are to target players who show up 2x a month then.

But that's one of the things they did do right, imho. They removed the Dil cost from crafting Mk X and below items. That Dil costs exists in the current system, but not in the new system. There's only a Dil cost for Mk XI and Mk XII.
So some VR stuff that's dropped out here and there...which will help a person level faster...they might be interested in that at a reasonable cost and a person might be able to make a reasonable profit from doing that.

you mean ugly as sin right? the "new" interface takes up more than 1/2 the screen with useless info right now.
but yeah, the dil costs are going to kill crafting....again

I often wonder if the devs are trolling the players when the do a "revamp" of anything in the game:P

Same for me. I haven't even touched the crafting part of STO in a couple of years. Mostly in part to the dilithium requirements.
