Okay, you're the savior, I trust your judgement here, because otherwise, I would bring up the slap in the face First Contact Day is.

I've been calling it Republic Day. And wish I had the software to make a D'Tan video to the Skylar Grey song Coming Home.
This thread does raise an interesting question:

Does passive resistance have diminishing returns?

Yes, but only when it stacks!

Memo from the desk of Starfleet Ambassador Otungku

    To: Snoggymack22

    RE: Reputation Protest

Snoggymack22, I hope this memo finds you in good health. In regards to your proposed protest against the upcoming reputation system I must respectfully decline. You see, my crew has worked diligently and tirelessly to adapt the assimilated Borg gear for use aboard the U.S.S. Daedalus. I worked my reptilian hind quarter off to earn that gear by fighting the Borg in the Gamma Orionis Sector Block before the reputation came to be.

    Good luck in your endeavors.
    Ambassador Otungku and crew
    USS Daedalus

    :D

    I do appreciate the support.

    And now for an UPDATE!

Apparently D'Stahl still can't reveal the super secret project he's been tasked to do (I'm guessing new level cap in Champions Online, but that's just a guess) however he sends his greetings and says he sent a memo to internal testers to support this passive resistance movement by having them test on set free builds with no rep gears!

Now I'm not sure if this is a real memo or not, because it's date 4/1/2014. But I'll take any and every bit of support. Even from an old nemesis like DStahl.

I almost feel like I should reformat this entire protest as an engineering report just for funsies.

But no matter, the point is, the movement is moving on! We're KEEPIN IT MOVIN! Staying strong. Keeping it real!

Together we're going to build a slap free future people! Slap. Free. STO.

Our goal is in sight. Let's make it happen!

I say leave the system alone, the devs should focus on more pressing issues, like known bugs.

The people of Millennium city need urgent assistance. The diabolical prankster known as Foxbat has hired an army of imposters to terrorize the city! Known crimes include trout slapping random bystanders. We need your help to hunt down and capture these rogues!

No. Foxbat is from the Champions Universe and even pre-dates the creation of Millennium City. He comes from the 1982 Champions sourcebook entitled Enemies II
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

In Delaware, an heir to the Dupont family was convicted of molesting his 3 yr. old daughter and given 8 years probation because the judge said "he would not fare well in prison".

In San Francisco's Mission District a young man was shot and killed by police for allegedly pointing a stun gun at cops, though eye witness accounts say he was holding a burrito and his stun gun was in the holster.

In the United States there has been more oil spilled from train wrecks in 2013 than the previous 40 years and yet they are not broadcast on the news.

The US spends more money on maintaining it's prison population in one year than it has on rehabilitation in the last 20.

I protest and get worked up over real world issues, not perceived slights made against me and my imaginary video game characters.

I, personally, just can't get worked up over something that has not altered the quality of life for anyone.

You sir are the kind of people we need playing the game.

Isn't "slapped in the face" one of the most tired cliches of the gaming community? I cringe whenever I hear it and it becomes more and more difficult to take people who use it seriously at all.

    It's horribly overused.

But maybe that's symptomatic of the larger problem. And why the revolution has yet to be televised! Or podcast! (Podcast? or Podcast-ED? This new fangled techno jargon jingoism still baffles my old man parts at times).

Maybe this over-use is ... pardon the expression ... yet another slap in the face! The devs have decided the best way to overcome this issue is to saturate the players with as many face slaps as their tiny dev hands can muster. Slap, slap, slappity slap. So that there's so many faces slapped so many times that one more slap in the face just seems to be overdone and trite?

Trite does sound a bit like trout.

I think the major objection to this change should be centered around the resource sink that has been put in by so many people. How many people put forth an effort to get to Tier 5 for these abilities and now to have them reduced to 60% of what they paid for. It's reminds me of a bait and switch.

TBH, I've already done that for the most part. I've kept the odd console or engine here and there, but I really don't use the rep gear. It just isn't that good and there's no content in the game that calls for it. Fleet gear works just fine.

The Revolution continues to grow! You would be the fourth member of our seven reputation army! By the time we're done it will take a dev team of MILLIONS to hold us back!

I don't get it. They are making the players even more powerful than they used to be by increasing the only rep passives that mattered (increase in damage, crit hit and crit damage), and yet, people feel like they are nerfed ?

    I really don't understand.

It's like an Ike and Tina situation. Even though Cryptic-Ike still loves ya, with all his tender heart and emotions, he's still slapping players in the face and that needs to stop. We need a slap free STO.
oh, you did NOT just go there...you know this means war

It's like Saving Passive Ryan. We are on the cusp, about to land on the beaches of Normandy. We may face some acceptable losses, but this is indeed war! We must establish a beach head before we go in search of the passive ryan we need to save and bring back home!

It's like an internet full of analogies is helping us make our points about being metaphorically slapped in the face, and the siege tactics and teamwork we need to stop said face slaps.

To bring it all back to what the OP was saying ... It's like that Run DMC song

They really can't leave it alone. The existing system is causing power creep which will get worse over time as more rep systems are added.

Well that should have been thought of from the beginning by the Devs. Where do we stand when we get to 6 reps or 7 reps? Are they going to increase that 4:4:4 passives to 6:6:6 at 6 reps and 7:7:7 at 7 reps? If that's the case isn't this your supposed "power creep" all over again? If this system is so broken as some people seem to think then why break it in a different way?

    To Op,

I support your group I feel your right to defend what is rightfully ours.
I never did touch the stuff because I don't believe 200 ours labor earns me much more than just a bonus set.

My Idea however would be to stop converting dill to zen and start seriously upgrade the zen store with stuff. Remove the Lobi store and convert it in the ZEN store.
I believe this way they would make way more money, I personally never bought a lockbox key to unlock a box only to sell keys for EC.

I wish they seriously consider the request to boost weapons who were nerved to death.
I seriously hope cryptic see this post as serious and make a staff meeting and consider for those with not as much time to put in a box or whatever you can buy instead of grinds.

    Thats all

I am sorry, but that is a very shortsighted statement. Most games are not the same today as they were 4 years ago. MMOs are constantly evolving to offset player and economic expectations. Most MMOs try to offset power creep by adding tougher content and expansion packs, but you never really get ahead of it because every time something new and cool is added it simply adds to the power creep - which leads to more expansions and more harder content.

Wow this coming from Snoogymack22. I feel like i'm in the twilight zone. I have always said the rep.system would ruin this game and got nothing but flamed for it. I have stopped doing the rep.TRIBBLE awhile ago and i'm enjoying the game more so cause of it. They will will keep adding more TRIBBLE in the system in place of real content. They will never stop, so to enjoy the game we need to let it go. What really kills me is the players that won't stand up against them turning the game into what many outside it call TRIBBLE grind. It comes down to if we want a better game we have to do something about it like Snoogymack22. I know it took guts for him to make that post. I say good for him.

Another concern is that if the crit and damage passives are the best ones, then why even spec into the tanking ones? PVE is all about DPS so again this is a move that favors escorts over cruisers and sci ships. It would be nice if some PVP guru's could comment on how they think these changes will effect PVP. Will escorts be favored heaviliy by these changes or will it be an even change across the board?

Edit: I agree with you OP in the sense that the playerbase needs to stand up against these changes because it seems like it's another attempt at disproportionately buffing escorts while the other classes get the crappy passives.
